This 16.5cm subwoofer speaker has a 36hz cutoff frequency. It allows the design of small subwoofers of quality and affordable. A simple amplifier in class D of 100W RMS RMS or 4 Ohm makes it easy to operate.

These are NOT "slam-bam-pow-crank-it-to-1" subwoofers. They are high quality, SQ oriented subwoofers.I wanted to keep my F150 looking stock, just not sounding stock! After some careful measuring I was able to design an enclosure to hold a pair of these that measured only 24" x 4.25" x 3.25" and would fit behind the rear seat of the supercrew. Very thin! I used 1/2" birch ply and braced it internally. These subs fit the bill because they only need 3.25" of mounting depth and I needed space above them for the 2" x 18" port. Net volume after speaker and port displacement is .423 cubic ft. Stuffed with .75lb of polyfil and it definitely smoothed out the sound.I am running them with the sub channel of an Alpine V9 (500+ watts!) and with careful gain setup this system ... MoreThese are NOT "slam-bam-pow-crank-it-to-1" subwoofers. Crossed with a 24db bandpass filter of 27-70 hz this subwoofer mates up perfectly to my front stage that consists of Alpine 6x9's in well sealed and deadened doors bandpassed from 92-1000 hz, and 2" CDT widebands in the A-pillars that pick up from 1000 hz and up. All of this is ran with a DSR-1 active TA and DSP fed to the 5ch Alpine V9 amplifier and tuned per channel. Clean and low SQ output! It surprises people!

Great little sub. I built a T-Line for it. I used 87" of port for a tuned frequency of about 35hz. I drive it with a 2.1 amp 100 watts in a home theater set up. In this cabinet it will deliver some serious bass at even below 30hz. Nice, clear accurate bass from 27hz up through 100hz. 100 watts will make it move to its x max limits at near full level. My first try at a T- Line and couldn't be happier!

As far as the speaker itself goes, it fine for the price and offers a nice flat response in the low end. Also, it is made in Taiwan and not China...Taiwan makes really good stuff.

Went into the rear seat position factory enclosures of a 1999 Jaguar XK8 Convertible. The subs are just a hair too deep for the enclosure so the install guy added a 1/4” spacer - easy. Power was stepped up to 50w (vs factory amp of ~ 30w). The tiny amp was tucked in next to the factory amp/6 pack CD changer located in the trunk. You pull the top right trunk liner back and you can see a good bit of room in there. Sound is leaned out for a flat response. By flat, I mean that the bass is not over-amplified, rather at the correct level as was intended on the original recordings. The low frequency sound is very articulate and has excellent tonal character. It has a visceral feel now too that makes you wanna dance. Not a bloated thumping kind of thing at all which was ... MoreWent into the rear seat position factory enclosures of a 1999 Jaguar XK8 Convertible. Not a bloated thumping kind of thing at all which was exactly what I was trying to avoid. These subs are very well built and heaviest of any that I could find that would actually fit into the factory enclosure. The front end by the way has a new JBL 3-way system in it, again with the amp stepped up to 50w. Will blow your ears out and plays clean up to the top end of the amplification.
Like some other reviewers, I also replaced the woofer in my 2.1 Klipsch computer setup with this one. The Klipsch woofer was not broken. It just was of average quality. I can't begin to tell you what an improvement this made. Low, tight and clean for such a small woofer. It took all of 5 minutes to install because of the "push on" speaker terminals. My setup has a factory made control module inline to the woofer so I can control the woofer level right on top of my desk. My small desktop speakers are the Martin Logan Motion 2s with ribbon tweeters. I spent the entire afternoon playing D.D.D. discs of the Rippindtons recorder at G.R.P. studios. I have heard $1,000 sat/sub systems that don't sound this good. You have to audition the Motion 2s to understand how great ... MoreLike some other reviewers, I also replaced the woofer in my 2.1 Klipsch computer setup with this one. I purchased a Bestisan powered subwoofer. I was disappointed with the low frequency. It just didn't seem to dig deep enough and sound tight and clean. The OEM woofer is paper and does not seem very stiff or high quality. I know Dayton have always made great quality products that don't kill your wallet. I purchased the 4 Ohm and it fir perfectly. The amp drives it VERY well that's built in and it does dig deeper without distortion!
This is a great little sub. I particularly like it with a properly tuned 8" passive radiator rather than a port. The flange is well set up to mount either inside or outside the enclosure. It's a little heavy for portable applications, but that's what you get with a conventional magnet and good power handling. With a neo magnet it would be a lot more expensive. If weight's not an issue, power on!
I am running a very simple 2.1 setup used for strictly music while sitting at my computer desk. All parts were purchased here at Parts Express. Starting with a Lepai LP-2020A+ Amp sending signal to the speaker level inputs on a Dayton SP100 plate amp and then running the high-passed speaker level outputs to a pair of PURE Acoustics Dreamboxes. This Datyton 6.5" sub is in a Denovo knockdown .56 cu ft enclosure with the Dayton Plate amp and a 2" Precision flared port tuned to 40Hz. It blends very well with the Dreamboxes. I am constantly impressed with this sub. It is hard to believe a 6.5" sub plays as low and loud as this does. It has it's limitations, but as long as you understand that and play it within those limits, you will be very happy. It has it's limitations, but as long as you understand that and play it within those limits, you will be very happy. Those limitations should not be considered a negative on the driver as it is not what the driver was intended to do. Don't try to get 100+ dB of 20Hz out of a 6.5" sub. As I said, I only use this setup for music which doesn't typically have the need for ultra low bass that home theater does, so I cannot vouch for how this would do in HT, but for music in a nearfield application, I cannot imagine anything better. The sound is natural and accurate, not boomy. This is an excellent product and an incredible value. I could not be happier with my purchase. Thank you Dayton and Parts Express!
I used this subwoofer to replace the one in my Klipsch ProMedia 2.1. I haven't finished breaking it in but it already outperforms the Klipsch subwoofer in almost every way. It's punchier, louder, and hits deeper notes. The performance of this speaker makes it easy for me to rate it 5 stars.A quick note about the grill for others looking to do the same thing... The grill on the ProMedia is designed to attach to the stock subwoofer, not the cabinet. Once you replace the stock subwoofer with something else, you lose the ability to reattach the grill. If you want to reattach the grill, you'll have to figure out a way to do that.
Replaced the original 8” 4 ohm sub driver with this 6.5” Dayton unit. Clearly better build quality than original in all respects (OEM unit ended up getting a seized voice coil during excessive dorm party). Specs from Cambridge Audio BASH/class-D amplified system are in attached photo. Note that original sub was sealed, approx 0.5 cu ft cube. I modified design with a new baffle and box port (dimension 0.5”h x 4”w x 8”d. See photo). Don’t ask for design theory…I lost my notes from 2 yrs ago. Anyway, the mods are impressive. Since it is active crossover design, I didn’t add any filtering.Note that I gave it a 4 star “value” rating, simply because I paid 25% less back in early 2020 (yes, I realize inflation…nevertheless). Still a good value. I’m confident this driver ... MoreReplaced the original 8” 4 ohm sub driver with this 6.5” Dayton unit.
