A genuinely beautiful waterproof jacket

I have an expensive bright orange patagonia waterproof jacket. Apparently, bright orange isn't ideal when being stealthy taking pictures of animals. So I needed something cheap enough for the trip, but still waterproof and comfortable. This was it. Honestly, if I had seen this before my patagonia, I would happily go for this. This jacket kept me perfectly dry and warm for a day in the Scottish mountains. It is comfortable, light, waterproof, windproof, has underarm zips for breathability, the hood is resizable and fits very well, and the price was ideal too. Also, being black, the quechua name isn't actually that easy to see - I admit I'm a bit snobby about outdoor gear.

Brilliant waterproof

Waterproof for sure (used on Highlands mountains in heavy rain!) Light, comfy, looks good. The fabric is very smooth and silky. You see the rain sitting on it in single beads and doesn't absorb into the fabric at all. Replaced my beloved Berghaus waterproof. Was nervous it wouldn't be up to the job at the price but it's brilliant. Hood has a good peak on it and can zip jacket right up over your mouth so great in really heavy downpours in strong winds etc for total protection. Rolls up small into your rucksack. The zipable armpit openings are excellent for additional breathability. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this jacket. Our whole family has them now!

Extremely impressed.

Having reviewed many waterproof jackets I decided to purchase the Quechua MH500. The sizing guide online was spot on. The jacket feels much thinner than expected but this is good for weighing less. Walked in this jacket a few times now, comfortable, light, and definitely waterproof, being caught in a mix of hail and heavy rain for a good half hour plus, the water just beaded off. The hood fit is great with its peak, I now wear glasses and it keeps the rain off my lenses, plus the hood turns with your head with no restriction to vision due to the cut outs at the side. Very well thought out. I cannot compare this to other products in the market place as this is my first purchase of this type of jacket, however I think this is excellent for a beginner/intermediate ... MoreHaving reviewed many waterproof jackets I decided to purchase the Quechua MH500. GOOD BUT TOO SMALL
28 November 2022

I ordered this jacket as a direct replacement for my 2018 MH500 Jacket in Green which was excellent but has finally worn out with daily use. Roll on 2022 and I see the stayel has changed but the reviews look good so I order the MH500 once more. My old jacket is a large, it's well cut but with room for a mid layer. This new model though is tiny. It's like a shirt and the hem is far too short. I'm 5'10 maybe with a 42 chest at the most and "large" is too small. Its had to go back. Never in my life would I think I was an XL but here I am ordering one.

Great jacket!

Not used in heavy rain but have used this jacket in 56mph driving winds with average rain! It performed well. The hood seems to allow for all around view and has a cinch on the back to adjust. The fabric has a good DWR coating and water beads off. The material has a stretch feel to it and seems to perform well. I would like to further test this in long periods of heavy rain and I’m sure I’ll get this opportunity! The pockets are really large with a nice stretchy lining. I have the 2XL because I’m 6’4” and 18 stone and I have long arms like an orangutan ...this is the first jacket I’ve owned where the sleeves are a bit long but when wearing gloves it’s perfect! It has a good waterproof zip and the driving wind and rain did not penetrate. I like the bottom cinch with allows you to tighten up around your waist and it has a flap which covers your bum which is also helpful. I think this jacket is another excellent purchase from decathlon. Another product which might stop me spending £200 on more well known brands in the future.

Great quality, great value
19 September 2022

I'm normally a size medium in US, so I ordered size large. This jacket is definitely an upgrade compared to my previous rain jacked. This one is much more durable, as it is a 3-layer waterproof system, rather than the 2-layer system my previous jacket from another company used. The 3 layer has a layer of fabric inside of the waterproof membrane, so that it is protected from abrasion as you walk, rest your elbows on a surface, etc.The jacket is very comfortable, and the little bit of stretch is nice for aiding in the fit.

Impressed.

Very impressed by this item. Had it for 2 years something and felt obligated to leave a review. Its been really great and i do remember hiking in rain an entire day and it held, i did feel moisture in the end but i do think it was sweat. The only bad thing is the main zipper that after 2 years starting to use some energy to zip (still works) under arm zippers are very confortable and extremly nice for hiking. This is the first jacket i own who have under arm zippers for ventilation and i will not buy another jacket without it. When hiking the weather can change quite quick and its irretating to keep taking on and off a jacket, unzipping main zipper and open under arms zippers is really great.5/5 jacket, my girlfriend really likes hers too but is also experience ... MoreVery impressed by this item. Ret value of 6 and 15 000 mm resistence? Where do you find that for this price? BUY! before its out. /C

No where near as good as the last model
12 February 2023

This jacket is no where near as good as the last model. The peak is a nuisance in bad weather, it's too flimsy and ends up folded back or tucked in. The cords are not anchored, so after any cinching in they can whip around in high winds. There's some great features like the tail not cinching to keep water running off in heavy rain, but on the whole this is no where near as good as the previous version and essentially just a good dog walkers coat.

Not quite the jacket I hoped it would be
31 October 2021

I purchased this jacket about three months ago after reading some very positive reviews. I purchased it in the mustard colourway and it fitted very well and had some features I considered desirable, especially the pit zips for ventilation purposes. I wore it once or twice in short periods of light rain very local to home and it was fine though the hood peak could be better. Today it was absolutely horrendously wet, raining cats and dogs, so I thought I would put it on and go for a short 40 min walk to test its metal. It soaked through at the usual weak points on all rain jackets, the top of the hood, the shoulders and across the top of the back, within about 15-20 minutes. I wasn't walking fast enough for it to be sweat and condensation. Upon returning home and ... MoreI purchased this jacket about three months ago after reading some very positive reviews. I wasn't walking fast enough for it to be sweat and condensation. Upon returning home and hanging up the jacket to dry, it is still very damp after 2.5 hrs in a moderately warm room . I will still use the jacket albeit for casual urban wear as opposed to serious hiking/backpacking use as it is very good in many respects. However I certainly wouldn't trust it when I am out on the hills, miles from home when a rainstorm strikes. Back to the drawing board for a highly water resistant mountain rain jacket for me I am afraid. Based on my personal experience I would only recommend this jacket for light to moderate use where you will be returning home the same day, not as a serious outdoor rain jacket that you need to rely on when out on multi day trips in the back country.

VERY nice, but a little tight
14 January 2021

Wow! I can't believe how great this jacket is... After looking into rain jackets that cost 5-6 times as much, I decided to try this one first, am I ever glad I did!The jacket is great at cutting the wind, kept all wet snow and rain off of me, and the pockets on the front are great - nice and high so I can rest my hands in the up on my chest while hiking. The jacket fits fairly tightly, while the sleeves are a little on the long side. I'm 6' 3, 200 lbs and kind of gangly, and the overall fit is perfect, but I'm not able to wear more than a base and mid layer under it.The hood is AMAZING! It fits incredibly well, and the cutouts under the peak are awesome, allowing almost 100% visibility which is amazing. The jacket folds up small and fits anywhere in my bag. ... MoreWow!
