Great value and flavour. Overall, I found the flavour balance in the sauce to be quite nice, with a good combination of sweet and tangy notes that complemented the sardine flavour well. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised that the sardine flavour was not too overpowering, which can be an issue with some canned fish products. One of the standout features of these sardines was their affordability. Despite being of good quality, they were priced very reasonably, making them an excellent value for the money. The only downside I noticed was the orange residue that covered most of the tins at my store. At first glance, it looked like rust, which was a bit concerning. Lower Grade Sardines. I've always very much appreciated my husband but it's when I get samples like this that I really appreciate having my husband around When you have simple ingredients like this it's important that they're the highest quality. Unfortunately these sardines are below par for me. My husband eats more sardine than I do so he was the best person to try this sample. I tried a tiny bit and then handed it over to him. He had it on a sandwich (butter on bread ) and after I took the photo he added some baby spinach and fetta that I'd marinated. He thought the sardines weren't bad but not great quality. These are lacking in the health benefits of the higher quality sardines, as well as lacking in flavour. The texture was okay but they didn't taste as good ... MoreLower Grade Sardines. These won't be added to my shopping list but I appreciate the chance to try them

Impressed! Picking up my sample, I was impressed with the price at $0. 85 per tin. I know that sardines can be very polarizing, but I do enjoy good sardines. I generally buy the imported ones that are packed in oil/chilli/spices and have these with toast. I brought this tin to the office as a lunch option, although I was not that keen on it being a tomato sauce based one. I was pleasantly surprised once I opened the tin. The smell that came through was a light tomato smell with a fish smell that was mild and pleasant. Being a regular sardine consumer, this is a big tick for me, as it means that the fish was quite fresh when packed. There were 3 generous chunks in the tin. Being an oily fish, high in calcium, protein and omega 3, this is a very good value health food. I will definitely buy this product again, next time I will try the other flavours.

Bland. Sardines were something I had quite a bit as a kid - the oily kind - smashed on toast and they were always yummy. I haven't really had them as an adult though. I ended up with 2 samples of this brand of sardines - these tomato sauce ones and the ones in springwater. So far I've only tested this one. I was going to smash these on toast but as I was having a salad I thought I'd have them with that. It was easy to open the lid and they looked fine. I had a taste straight from the tin and found them to be pretty bland and tasteless. To be honest I really couldn't taste the tomato sauce very much although I could definitely see it. So I smashed them up and added them to my salad. These really needed some salt. I normally have salt, cracked pepper and onion flakes ... MoreBland. But I really didn't enjoy my salad with these sardines added. On the positive side they have a 4 star health rating, no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, high in omega 3 & protein. The can is recyclable. I won't be buying these again and I am now not looking forward to trying out my other sample in springwater I will give them the taste test soon. I do have 2 cats so if I don't like the springwater ones I will see what they have to say about them.

Delightfully mild flavour. As a fan of canned fish, I recently tried Deep Cove Sardines In Tomato Sauce, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by its mild flavor. One of the common concerns with sardines is their strong fishy taste, but Deep Cove manages to strike a balance, offering a more subdued and approachable flavor profile. The tomato sauce complements the sardines well, providing a tangy and slightly sweet note that helps to mellow out any potential overpowering fishiness. The sardines themselves are tender and packed with Omega-3 fatty acids, making them a nutritious choice. If you're hesitant about the intensity of sardines, Deep Cove Sardines In Tomato Sauce provides a delightful option that won't overwhelm your taste buds, making it a great choice ... MoreDelightfully mild flavour. Good quick easy lunch that is fairly tasty. I was very much looking forward to trying these sardines, especially being in a tomato sauce as this is my favorite. The tin itself due to the color blue and the image of the sardines made the sardines look like a quality product. The name Deep Cove caught my eye as it immediately seemed like it had come from overseas, which is had being Thailand. The sardines themselves were great tasting, they were mild and did not have a strong, overpowering fish smell which is great. The sardines were nice and firm and did not fall apart when trying to get them out of the tin which was an added bonus. The sardines were nice and firm and did not fall apart when trying to get them out of the tin which was an added bonus. The tomato sauce had a nice flavor, however the sauce was to thin which made the sardines seem a bit cheaper than the competitors. The sauce needed to be thicker in order to coat the sardines. Also having the tomato sauce a bit thicker would have made it tastier on the toast as the toast would not get so soggy. I did think to myself that I would make a mental note not to eat with bread that had not been toasted as it would end up being a soggy mess which would not be good especially if I was to have them at work. A four star health rating is great and having no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives as well as being high in Omega 3 and high in protein is just what I want. The price of $0. 85 is excellent and makes for a great lunch that can be taken to work or stored at home ready to eat whenever you want. I will buy these again, especially if the sauce is thicker as for me this is the only down-side to otherwise a near perfect product.

Cat stories guaranteed. Not being a lover of fish I asked Mr Gorky if he was interested in the sardine sample as I had never seen him eat them before. Needless to say it was a big yes and then I got a way back when story about his old cat when he was a teenager. Apparently the cat was very fussy and would cost them a fortune in the food that it liked that week but not the next. One day it came sniffing around when they were having sardines in tomato sauce for lunch. They all thought the cat would turn up its nose at the tomato sauce but put a bit in the bowl for it. Well the cat gobbled it down and came back for more and more. So after that they would always have a tin of sardines in tomato sauce in the pantry ready for the cat on its super fussy days. But Mr Gorky totally enjoyed it and said he would be getting it again to have on the days I am at work or out so that I wont have to smell it. Big tick for the no artificial colours, preservatives or flavours. Of course it is caught and packed overseas as I don't think Australia has any fishing packing factories anymore.

They are a great option for a quick and easy snack. I love these Sardines because they are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for maintaining heart health and brain function. 3 large sardines, tasted a little dry. This was an easy sample to find in the store, located on the bottom shelf just below the similar brand name products. I noted the budget 85 cent price, much lower than other brands of sardines. The can had no unnecessary outer cardboard or plastic wrapping. Packaged in Thailand and sourced from multiple origins, I noted that all sardines appear to be sourced and canned in overseas countries. The contents consisted of 3 large sardines which filled the tin with very little room for sauce. The sauce was pleasant tasting with no overpowering spices, the sardines however, were a little dry. You get what you pay for. I’m not a huge fan of sardines but I do have them occasionally. Like most people I have them mashed up on toast for breakfast. I rarely buy supermarket own brands because I have found the quality to be severely lacking in the past, so I bought another brand to compare these with. The King Oscar were $2. 50 compared to 85c for the Deep Cove, quite a price difference but still not breaking the bank. Upon opening it was very clear as to why the price difference The King Oscar were smaller, the sauce thicker and richer and didn’t smell anywhere near as strong as the Deep Cove. The strong, almost off, fishy smell and taste from the Deep Cove ones were what gives Sardines in general a bad rap! The King Oscar were pleasant to eat, mild and tasty, the Deep Cove were not!Sorry Woolworths but I would not buy these again, preferring to pay 3 times as much for something that is edible. I will be throwing the rest of the can in the bin as I don’t have a cat to give them to. I certainly wouldn’t recommend them unless you are on an extreme budget and have to have them for some reason, but I am sure you could find better quality in the pet food aisle.
