When I think of a Shark game, the kind where you roam around and pick off humans and fisherman, I think JAWS. A simple and refined concept of man versus Shark and that's about it. What "Maneater" has accomplished goes far above my expectations of what a Shark game could be. The ability to level up and customize your Shark through mutations and take on various level hunters and side quests to further develop your blood thirsty revenge on the ones who hunt and kill your family and friends is amazing.I will give this game 5/5 stars because its concept, bang for your buck, and game play has me playing this for hours/days. That being said, buyer beware, their may be a few times where the game glitches and crashes on you. This has not caused me any significant dread as ... MoreWhen I think of a Shark game, the kind where you roam around and pick off humans and fisherman, I think JAWS. The frame rate may lag at times as the SHARK is covering a lot of ground at a fast rate. One cannot help but to think that with the PS5 coming out along with its processing power and frame/pixel enhancements, that this games sometimes troublesome glitches would be solved....But in either case, I absolutely love this game and its well worth the ride!

For PARENTS... This game is rated M, FOR MATURE. Equivalent to an R-rated movie. A 5 year old should not be playing it, and if they are, don't knock the product because you chose to ignore the rating ON THE BOX. If your looking for a more appropriate shark game for younger kids, check out "Hungry Shark World." Also a fun game with multiple sharks, way less gore. May be digital only, so you may have to get it through the cosole.Man Eater is a good Jaws-type, RPG-lite game. Somehow it manages to put a story to a shark game and it's pretty well done. There's a bit of grinding, like any RPG, but the core game and exploration are fun enough that it distracts from the fact you're grinding. If you're looking for something different than "another shooter game," give this ... MoreFor PARENTS... For $20 you can't go wrong. And if you like shark games, like I mentioned above, try the console version (not mobile version) of Hungry Shark World. Both go about being a shark in completely different ways. Both are fun. Happy Hunting! And PARENTS... please pay attention to the ratings for games on the box. If it's not Nintendo, there are mostly Adult-themed games on these consoles.

I love aquatic games so this was a definite buy from me. Unfortunately it's launch was marred by glitches and bugs in the game that prevented it from getting good reviews. However those bugs have now been patched out and the game runs as it was intended. And it's a blast! You play a shark eating every animal in sight as you grow and eat larger and larger species. You can unlock power ups to speed up or help you with fighting boats. The whole game plays out like a documentary/reality tv series with running jokes and commentary by the narrator, Chris Parnell. There's even a collect-a-thon aspect to it as you eat up license plates and uncover landmarks with hilarious commentary as you encounter each one. This summer new (paid) DLC is coming with more content so you ... MoreI love aquatic games so this was a definite buy from me. More fun than youd expect! This isnt going to win game of the year awards, however this is easily worth the asking price. Has a bonus skin (free) you can download, as well as DLC for a fair price. The game as is can be quite enjoyable if you dont binge play. Most kids and teens can play this without worry but even adults will enjoy. You a big angry shark who wants distruction!
Great scene with shark fights, lashing out of water with a mouthful of blood and guts is quite a sight, the downfall is the linearity of the whole thing, the vanishing point mid screen means water level is always same place, distance hard to judge. Its like Dave Mirram but you are a shark. Worth a go as really smart concept but also very frustrating. 8/10. Power ups and ingame info is very clever and scientific.
A shark game about revenge. Bloody, fun, and a streamlined experience. If you want a long game that'll take you months to complete look elsewhere. You'll probably finish it in a weekend. If there's a shark game, I've played it. JAWS Unleashed, depth, even hungry shark. I have been craving another shark game for a long time and this is perfect for that. It feels great swimming around, and just eating everything in your path. The customization aspects as you get further are pretty cool too, and you'll love the small easter eggs if you are a deep silver fan. Be on the lookout Metro players. My only reason for giving it one less star is it does start to get repetitive. You'll enjoy it more if you make yourself stop after 3-4 hours and then come back to it if you are ... MoreA shark game about revenge. Bloody, fun, and a streamlined experience. I really wish that after eating something, the blood and guts stayed longer in the water. Kind of a weird thing but I felt things disappeared to quickly.Overall, completely worth it to play something that finally offers something creative and different.
I was excited for this game, but held off for some reason. Lucky me, the Game of the Year Edition came out before I bought this. So I'm at Target, about to buy GOTY for $69.99, when I noticed the regular was on sale for $9.99. Well, the bonuses in the GOTY can't cost $60 in an update, right? Well, wrong. The GOTY Edition includes like 3 or more $20 map upgrades ($60 right there), a human/hunter mode, and more. Oh, and now there's a Super-Deluxe version for like $129 or something with some more, but I think it's mainly for a resin cut-out of a shark. Basically, what I'm saying is, get the GOTY or SD Versions. The base game really isn't anything at all.
Maneater is essentially the peak of mediocrity, meaning I can think of an equal number of games better and worse than it, while finding nothing technically "wrong" or "bad" about it. It helps that it doesn't take it self too seriously. It's not very hard, which really only makes how repetitive it can be more obvious. You basically swim across a number of maps completing new sets of the same tasks along the way. The enemies, whether on land or in water, have little meaningful variation while provide little challenge. The game could be consider short, but I can't see how being longer or having bigger environments would make it better, because more mediocrity is… well, more mediocrity. If you're wondering, It is an easy and straightforward platinum trophy if that's ... MoreManeater is essentially the peak of mediocrity, meaning I can think of an equal number of games better and worse than it, while finding nothing technically "wrong" or "bad" about it. When I finally got my hands on a PS5 in preparation for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart I wasn't interested in any other games that were available for the console.I had the free Playstation Plus games but none of them seemed at all interesting. That was until I fired up Maneater on a whim and ended up having one of the most simplistic and enjoyable experiences in ages.I remember when this released hearing the gossip about it being a full on RPG bit you're a shark, seemed quirky but I wish I tried it sooner.By no means groundbreaking, this has a certain charm to it. Sure you'll be mashing R2 a few thousand times but I couldn't stop playing, exploring, leveling up. And once I had 100% everything I discovered that the difference evolutions act as different classes that fundamentally change how your Shark behaves giving it surprising replay value. At the end of the day this novel idea took me by surprise and I had a blast playing it. Simple to wrap your head around once you master the controls, devouring hoards of sea life (and people) to level up and aquire fun upgrades was an absolute blast. Definitely recommend when the price is right.(Also having Jerry as the narrator is perfection).
This game is exactly what you would expect it to be, and more! You get to be a shark who swims around and eats absolutely everything you can find. Landmarks, other animals, people, boats - everything is fair game! I have literally spent hours with this game, and it just gets better and better. The upgrades that you can make into your shark simply add to the fun. It isn't like other games where you specifically have to level up certain trees to be able to be effective in future "battles" but having metal teeth and increased sonar range, etc. definitely add to the fun. There aren't specific missions that you have to do in order to proceed, instead it requires you to reach certain levels to be able to access new areas, but how you choose to level up is entirely up to ... MoreThis game is exactly what you would expect it to be, and more!
