Slightly firm with nice little 'bump' to let you know you've pressed them. The touch screen works well, very responsive and accurace.Battery performance is good considering it's only a 3 cell battery, just don't run it at its highest performance all the time. The speakers are pretty decent and have enough volume for my uses. Not too heavy which is always nice.Good upgradability. The laptop has 2 RAM slots, one filled by the 8GB stick so upgrading to 16GB is easy enough. The SSD is in an M.2 NVMe slot so can be upgraded if you want. Many laptops come with ... MoreI'll start with the positives -Very good CPU performance for a low power CPU.Respectable GPU performance, many older games can be played at medium settings.Keys have a nice feel to them, not to spongy. This is a HUGE issue with this laptop and a few other people have said the same.Just booting up will see your CPU hit 90c+, that's really not acceptable.Surfing the web the CPU with a few tabs open will frequently jump to 80-90c.A few times the laptop has actually restarted because it was overhearting. On one occasion it wouldn't even restart for 2 minutes until it had cooled down.Chaging any of the performance settings does nothing to prevent this issue.Just in case it was Dells bundled software I decided to re-install Windows from scratch on a new SSD which I installed. It did nothing to prevent the thermal issues.Until I try replacing the thermal paste, just in case that is the issue, I have had to use 3rd party software to limit the maximum temperature the CPU will reach.Sadly that means performance is reduced.I tried installing AMD Ryzen Master to see if undervolting/curve optimiser would help, the laptop blue screens as soon as that is installed. The only way to fix the problem without any 3rd party software is changing your power plan so that the maximum power state is at 99%.That prevents the CPU from boosting over the base clock speed so impacts performance massively.I don't even think replacing the thermal paste will fix it, I think it's just a poor cooler in this laptop. The screen is anough issue.250 nits max brightness and 45% NTSC (around 63% sRGB) means colour accuracy isn't great and the image looks a little washed out.The SSD it comes with is bottom of the barrely. No DRAM cache (which isn't a big surprised) and is low endurance QLC NAND.It's a no-name brand so reliability is an unknown.I replaced the drive anyway so not an issue for me.Many new laptops have USB-C charging, even cheaper ones. This one doesn't which is a bit of a letdown but not a huge problem. All in all, this laptop could have been great. The only major issue that would make me advise people not to buy it is the thermal problems. If Dell could fix that, at the right price this laptop could be great. If you're OK with changing the power plan and running the CPU at reduced performance it may not be an issue for you.

It came with an installation DVD which was outdated, and I wasted a lot of time trying to get it to work. I've pretty much gotten used to this, but it always requires an adjustment when I move between my other computers that have separate mouse buttons. Finally, I'm still working on getting several older applications to work on Windows 11. They work fine on Windows 10. This will be a real problem if I can't get them working -- but this is not Dell's responsibility.

Upon unboxing I was pleasantly surprised by the light weight and slim design of the device. The angle of view of the screen is very obtuse and, as has always been my experience with Dell monitors, the display is crisp and flawless. I was already feeling that I was getting good value for money.Everything works as it should do given the product specifications and in particular, the boot time is very rapid. In addition, I expect the performance will improve even further as Dell have incorporated a spare RAM port and I believe the SSD drive is upgradable also. When making my decision to buy this laptop, I knew the spec I wanted and what I wanted it to look like. This laptop is absolutely beautiful to look at and has what feels like a metal casing but I doubt it is so not really sure about that. It works like a dream. It has the backlit keyboard and fingerprint sensor which was two of the features that I really wanted. The keyboard is lovely to touch and feels generally nice. I also like the spill resistant keyboard, although I don't actually know what would happen if I did spill something on it, I just hope I don't have to experience it.It performs all tasks without any delay, even some computer games are great on here, although that is not the main function of purchasing this. The battery life is not brilliant but it ... MoreWhen making my decision to buy this laptop, I knew the spec I wanted and what I wanted it to look like. I noticed some reviews were not happy with the but as I am a home user and mainly surf the internet, it's not an issue for me.The only problem that I have is the noise of the fan. I knew this would be an issue as other reviewers had mentioned this but I was hoping it would not be as bad. I have had other different brands of laptops and not one of them has had a fan as noisy as this. If the fan had been a bit more quiet, I would have given 5 stars. All in all, I am happy with this laptop, however, I do think it was a little pricey compared to other laptop brands.

Overheating, noise, very bad sound quality

1. This LAPtop cannot be used on your laps because it has ventilation holes in the bottom cover!2. I bought this model especially because I used to work with the numeric keypad. Unfortunately there is no LED indicator that the keypad is in numeric or arrow mode. Extremely uncomfortable!3. The cooler noise is very noticeable and cooler works almost always (I have the model with i7). Watching video at 720p on youtube (no other apps on) makes the cooler running. Scanning with McAfee antivirus (no other apps on) makes the cooler running at full power and the bottom cover so hot that it cannot be touched!4. The sound quality through internal speakers is absolutely awful! Audio tuning using MyDell Console does not help. The sound is like a heavily overcompressed mp3. The sound quality through connected headphones is almost the same.5. The USB 2.0 port at the right side is so tight that I thought first that it is blocked or damaged, then I checked the manual that it is the USB2.0, then I used a hammer to insert the mouse adapter there and it will be there forever as I will need a pliers to take it out.6. There is a row of buttons on top of the numeric keypad to simulate a calculator. And a special key to switch the calculator on (to start a standard windows calculator app). Good idea! Surprisingly, the app starts not always, for example, when the standard windows notepad is open, - the calculator does not start by this key! Furthermore, the numeric keypad does not switch to in numeric mode automatically when you press the calculator key. Why?!7. You always need two hands to open the laptop! The top cover has a unique shape and lifts the laptop up when you open it! Just imagine, you lift the laptop up by one hand (through the top lid and hinges) and press it down by other hand. I hope, Dell made a test how many open-close cycles the hinges will survive.8. There is no arrows marking on the numerical keypad!9. Finally, to deliver the laptop, Dell used a currier company which does not provide a timeslot when the parcel is expected to be delivered. I had to take one full day off work to wait for the delivery.

Gee whiz it's lightning fast!!!I would wish for a more focused utility to copy files and folders from my old PC to this one, but I got it accomplished the clunky way.I have a couple of concerns: 1) my mouse seems to skip around unpredictably, and this is happening no matter whether I use the pad or a cable or USB mouse. On my former PC, parts of web pages were not accessible because of this, and this problem continues to be true (but worse) with this new PC. I want to note that many websites locate their "next" or "submit" buttons at the bottom of their pages - stupid, but whatever. I am using MS Edge most of the time and find it concerning that either websites don't size correctly, or my device settings don't compensate correctly. I frequently use Edge's zoom to access the bottom of webpages. Sometimes I have to zoom out so far that words on the pages are illegible. Yet I can't find a device setting to fix this problem. Other than that - WOW I love this machine! Didn't think I would like the 10-key to the right of the QWERTY keyboard, but I'm loving it.

Had some issues with that and ended up calling Dell Support, but finally got things transferred. Two things are very negative for me. 1) the laptop fan runs constantly and, at least for me, is too loud. I have it sitting on a wire rack so I know it is getting enough air under the laptop, but still runs all the time. 2) Also, when on video conference (Zoom) meetings, the lighting is horrible. I set it up, connected the laptop to the screen got message on the screen "no USB-C signal from your device". I raised this with Dell Tech support. They informed me that I cannot output to a display using the USB-C connection, only the HDMI one.At this point, I have been in contact with >6 different people from Dell, needed to explain the issue several times and I am glad I kept records of all previous transcripts. They will not send me the laptop that I ordered to replace the incorrect laptop, I can only return the one that I got. Weeks have passed since I ordered the laptop and that this has been a huge waste of my time. I feel like a customer that was mislead and tricked by a Black Friday deal into buying from Dell. I will not order a Dell Laptop again.

very good computer.

Very good laptop for the price. it is fast (I have the one with the AMD Ryzen 7 and 16 GB of RAM) and deals with tasks easily (MS Office apps, light photo editing and coding). The battery last for a vry long time. Also, I love the feeling of the track pad. And finally, it is not too noisy in normal use. The fan can make noise when the computer is heavily solicited or when the battery is charging but it is expected and perfectly acceptable.I didn't put the maximum number of stars just because I don't like the way the computer rest on the bottom of the screen when you open it. Moving the screen changes the angle of the laptop. I'm not sure about the long term effect of the extraction vents being towards the screen on the screen itself. Finally, I understand that for ... MoreVery good laptop for the price. it is fast (I have the one with the AMD Ryzen 7 and 16 GB of RAM) and deals with tasks easily (MS Office apps, light photo editing and coding). Finally, I understand that for the price we can't expect the keyboard to be backlit or the power button to have a nice halo to show it is On but It would be nice to have at least an LED we can check to know if the computer is On or on stand by or off. I found myself pressing the On button a couple of times because nothing was showing that the computer was turning on and there was no noise from it or nothing on the screen (the DELL logo appears only later)
