4.5. I upgraded to this machine from my previous Delonghi. It was more expensive, but I actually wouldn’t say it makes better espresso, it just has more stainless steel than plastic and more features. Although I wish that the tamper was not plastic as it’s somewhat flimsy. It works well and is easy to use. Single and double dose are adjustable, and it has indicator lights for when it needs descaling, cool down, etc. The steam one works but I do find that it doesn’t work as well as my separate frother, so i use that. I think you could get good microfoam with this, but it often starts flashing for cool down right near the end of steaming . My one main disappointment is that I had to have it serviced the second year I had it. Could’ve just been a fluke, or because ... More4.5. I upgraded to this machine from my previous Delonghi. The repair was not too expensive and it just needed a valve replaced, but still. Overall I recommended, though I would wait for a sale. If you get it on sale it’s a good buy! There’s also a pretty active Facebook community for tips, tricks and advice for this specific machine. It has quite a following it seems. I use it at least once a day! Hoping it lasts a really long time now like my other DeLongis.

All around delicious and gorgeous, like me lol

I love this machine after years of brewing hundreds of cups in cheap machines. It takes some getting used to, like every machine, even a different one of the same brand, but once I figured out the nuances, I'm happily brewing perfect cups of espresso with delicious, lasting stiff foam. Frothing the milk is incredibly easy, even with whole milk. The separate inserts for a single or double shot and one for espresso pods (which I don't use) are really nice, and the holes are super fine so no silt gets through. It's easy to clean. It works without the water filter, too, so you're not forced to replace it on to still get a good cup of coffee. The only difficult part is getting the hopper on - it's very stiff, but I'm learning to find the sweet spot and it's getting ... MoreI love this machine after years of brewing hundreds of cups in cheap machines. If you're making froth, keep an extra empty cup handy to let the built up water come out before steaming the milk. I add sugar to the milk which makes it even make re decadent and delicious. It heats up fast. It looks fantastic on the counter, even though the red color slightly varies from my Kitchen Aid Empire Red stand mixer (not as much as in the pic since a light is shining right on it), which it sits next to. I love the narrow design, which has made it easy to integrate into my counter. It wipes clean easily. I'm very happy with this machine.

Great Little machine w/o busting budget.

Once dialed in I have move my coffee to the next level. I had a Mr. Coffee ECMP50 which does produce good coffee surprisingly. They are out of production. I tried a couple other brands of Chinese origin with no luck in the result. Out of the box this machine was on equal to what I had been drinking. A good starting point. I strongly suggest using an unpressurized basket. Once I had installed one and dialed in my grind, my coffee took a leap forward in flavor. A 5 star rating was held back because the machine only came with pressurized baskets. I also switch to a bottomless handle for the basket so I could fit a tall mug. I do not froth so I cannot voice an opinion on the steam wand. Overall - there is good reason why this consistently good ratings.

Horrible 2-part Portafilter.Cloggs & Hard to Clean
8 December 2023

I've had this unit for 2+ years now and cleaning the portafilter is horrible. It has an insert with a rubber seal around it, which sometimes let's grounds through and plugs the lower portion with a the single pinhole. I've had to trash so many shots because of the clogged pinhole. Sometimes I have to use a needle to clear pinhole. Then when trying to tap the spent grounds out, the small little portafilter disc falls out into my grounds and I have to dig it out with my hand which is messy. And, I have to fully clean the entire filter every time.I bought this unit because my brother had one, however he didn't have the two-part portafilter basket. Also, the portafilter basket is too tall and doesn't fit underneath my rochillo grinder portafilter holder.Eventhough ... MoreI've had this unit for 2+ years now and cleaning the portafilter is horrible. 3rd one has made the worse coffee I have ever had. Watery tasteless no coffee scent at all. Bought 3/29/2024 delivered 29th. By April 24 the pump was not working called DeLonghi did video w serv rep she stated it was OK had spuma. coffee maker has 2 yr warranty no help w repair nor return or replacement. Bottom rim is showing line of coffee that has dropped from inside and accumulates on drip plate. VERY UPSET W DELONGHI. Bought 1st 2015. 2nd 2018 and they were excellent this is why I bought same type model

Second one of these, but shouldn’t it be hotter?
11 January 2024

We had our first one of these for three years and loved it until the heating element failed. We bought a second one and I was surprised to find that it’s only brewing at 175 degrees. The DeLonghi website and others say that espresso should be brewed at 197 degrees. I’m using a Thermapen which is highly accurate and I used a second thermometer to verify. I’ve measured the water coming out on its own (no espresso) and a cup of espresso brewed with an ESE pod and am getting the same temperature. I have the temperature setting on the highest setting and I have double and triple checked that setting.

The little machine that could...and does!

Great machine for the price, which is lower here than anywhere else I looked. The machine I received is brand new and all parts were there with everything in perfect shape! I've used other pump machines before that; didn't come close to the crema, automatic timing is right on point with this one; other machines I've had to manually start and stop or end up with watery shots. The only thing I haven't got the hang of yet is the milk frother, I've been using a manual frother until I get a handle on it! Something I really appreciated was that while there are three buttons (and a knob on the side), simple combos of those can help to customize the machine's custom on/off, timer's and water quality (something in Ohio that can really make a difference between cleanings and ... MoreGreat machine for the price, which is lower here than anywhere else I looked. I've paid twice as much for machines that are nowhere near as attractive as the Dedica, but take up needless amounts of counter space and are not consistent with the quality of the finished shot like this machine does. Anyone who enjoys espresso knows how important that is! I received it as a gift from my mother; I will have no problem with replacing this one with the same model when the time comes. I'd imagine that will be a few years from now, this machine is a little utilitarian tank!

Will focus on Dedica disadvantages in comparison
19 January 2022

The advantages already mentioned in other user reviews are mostly correctly described. I’ll focus on disadvantages DeLonghi can focus in improving the coffee machine.I started using this model 3-4 mo ago replacing DeLonghi cheapest manual express/cappuccino/latte machine (below $100 as new owned since 2017). Part of my problems I experienced is probably due to lack of good manual describing details. The devil is always in the details and DeLonghi could be more user-friendly describing “know-how”.I use it to brew a mocha-cappuccino. So, I noticed that the default setting never allow me to reach at least 150 degrees needed to steam the 2% milk I’m using in one single run. So, I noticed that the default setting never allow me to reach at least 150 degrees needed to steam the 2% milk I’m using in one single run. I need to repeat the milk steaming by turning off/on the steam valve and button in order to reach 150 degrees or more if I need more foamy milk. In order to to follow with exact temp of the steaming milk I use Breville vessel w/ temp sensor sensitive scale showing me the milk temp in F & C-measurement scale.I took off the metal wand cover according to online experts advice and use only the rubber spout since one can’t count on the wand switch for latte/cappuccino. I decided to judge the milk steaming based on more exact measure - the temp which shows whether it’s latte ready or cappuccino ready the steamed milk.Compared to the fully manual and much cheaper (below $100) DeLonghi expresso coffee machine model, Dedica semi-automatic coffee machine is not really worst the asking retail price over $300. Having the years of experience with both DeLonghi coffee machines I’ll recommend save your money and get the cheapest fully manual but very reproducible express/latte/cappuccino machine. Unless you find online Dedica model for lower $100 do not buy only because of the better looks.
