The second one is the noise level of this coffee maker is pretty big, it sometimes makes a loud sound that can be startling. However, those do not detract from my overall experience. I love it so I highly recommend this machine.

Cons: There is not enough amount of coffee in one setting, need to make every coffee twice, two cappuccino, two americano etc. Some coffees feel quite cold and low in temperature. As I prefer every hot drink with high temperature than this is a con from me. I would add temperature control option. It’s quite loud when working and preparing a drink, cleaning and getting ready etc. Even tho the coffee drip is not full it asks to empty it almost every day. It is quite slow in general, need to think and prepare it before if planning to use it in hurry. I have had a few coffee machines in the past and I in general the features and functionality is the same however I would recommend this one out of all I had before as I like how everything is shown on the screen and if any problem it will tell you.

Speaking of cleaning, the whole device seems like it will be relatively simple to clean. I have just started using it, so I haven’t gotten to that point yet, but there are many pieces that are just removable and dishwasher safe, so that’ll be nice! Overall I am very impressed with the quality, ease of use, and design. These machines do require a little more work and maintenance than a regular coffee pot or a pod style machine, but it’s well worth it! This is my first DēLonghi itemdefinitely not my last.

After you spend $500, they can’t even slap on some stainless steel (or give the option for it) and if I want the automatic frother, I have to fork out an EXTRA $100. It simply looks cheap, and to be honest, it is! It is just plain plastic with almost no metal/alloy to it at all. I just keep getting caught up on the fact that my $100 keurig looks and feels nicer than my 5x more expensive espresso machine. Fine, I will let it go. After all, if it is held together by two pieces of yarn but makes the best coffee then I would have two pieces of yarn on my countertop. That being said, there are machines at this price and below that just have a much better curb appeal, but that is just the De’Longhi tax.Per the instructions, it says to do 4 rinse cycles and to adjust the machine for your waters hardness, which I did (and they do provide a test strip). I probably did 7 or 8 test runs as my wife is rather ~sensitive~ to abstract taste. Which I want to note, we had absolutely no issues with weird or funky taste which I have had with other machines. Once your machine is ready to go, you have to throw your beans in and set your grind setting (De’Longhi has a pretty good instructional on which level to set your bean grind to) and brew the magic! The grind setting is a guessing game, and something that you will figure out once and write down for each of your select beans. The espresso is great, and the americano is even better. For all the flack I have thrown at this machine thus far, one thing I can certify is that what the Magnifica Start does - it does exceptionally well! Everything is fantastic, and after I adjust the grind setting for each of my different types of beans, it is almost effortless in the morning (aside from the manual frother, of course). I found that the Double Shot espresso tasted better than the single shot and, well who needed another excuse to make a double shot! Deep cleaning the machine per the instructions should be done monthly, and is a semi intensive task. More like a once you do it the first time, the second, third and so on are really not too bad.This is where I will pivot and make my final claim, if you want a machine that is exactly what you see, then this is awesome. It is obvious that DeLonghi has been making coffee for a long time and hey, if they can get away without having to add too much more to the machine and still sell it…then heck who am I to say. BUT!! At the $500 price point, I can not only find other machines that look better, but that look better and also do more. In good faith I really cannot recommend this machine given the market and just how many features this machine does not have. Especially when looking across the price range and honestly even when I look at cheaper machines. I honestly feel like this is a half baked effort to ‘revamp’ the Magnifica Start, and for me it just falls flat. Nothing shouts premium, special or cutting edge here and just merely feels like the product to fill De’Longhi $500 slot.All of this being said, if what you want at the end of the day are a few options (espresso, double shot espresso, coffee and americano) that are quick and easy out of the box and the looks don’t matter to you… then by all means this is a perfect option. For me, wanting cold press, an auto frother and a few more bells and whistles, this just doesn’t hit the spot. But it is a very opinionated subject! Which is what makes Best Buy awesome as they probably have it on display as well as several other options. Best Buy has an excellent return policy and even better customer service, so you never have to worry about buying a product that you don’t like… so there is no harm in testing it out!

The top of the unit holds WHOLE coffee beans which are then ground up with an integrated conical steel burr grinder that allows you to adjust to from 13 different grind settings. This is the same level of granularity as the more expensive brother.The option to choose drinks is also more limited to coffee, espresso, and americano, which just adds more water to espresso ratio. If you want anything with frothed creamer/milk, you need to use the steam function and frothing wand. I only use this maybe once a month, more often than not I am just using the coffee 2x function and adding my Caramel Creamer to my tumbler for my one coffee trip per day. Only minor complaint on the touchscreen is having to press buttons multiple times to toggle through the options for stronger coffee, instead of just pressing the display. Also, you can adjust the amount of liquid produced by programming the machine if you know you want more or less per serving.In terms of coffee/espresso quality, I would say the quality is nearly identical which is very impressive considering this Magnifica costs 1/3rd as much. There may be a slight difference in grind time that also impacts how much coffee is in each puck, but I haven't been able to 100% verify that by comparing the work puck to my home puck.The other major difference as noted is that this system does not have the auto frother Latte Crema system that does a wonderful job of automatically adding frothed milk and cream to your coffee drinks and opens up your Lattes, Macchiatos, Cappucinos etc. Is that feature worth the difference in price? Depends on your needs.For roughly $500 this is an amazing value, especially if you stick to coffee and espresso. You're going to save a ton of money using your own whole beans. I buy whole beans for work and now I'll probably buy some different speciality beans for home, and I definitely don't miss paying $6 for a Grande Latte. This also produces much better coffee than cups and pod coffee makers. You get a lot more grounds per shot of espresso, your grounds are fresher, and overall just a much better drink.The only minor annoyance I find on both of these units is they do not accommodate a 20oz Tumbler that I use for work. I can use my 12oz. Hot shot mug, but I prefer the larger tumbler. I can use my 14oz double walled glass as well as my heated mug. Apparently only the highest end Elite unit has the pull out portion on the base to allow you to fit a tumbler. Was hoping this was just an oversight they fixed but apparently not. Also, make sure to warm up your mugs or espresso shot glasses if you like your drinks hot. Just some hot water from an instant hot, or hot water from the wand will work.

Note, there is a 2x button on this machine and I assumed it would be doing double water with an extra grind however it does NOT do the extra grind just the water so before trying this feature keep that in mind as well. Before you really get going be sure to read the manual because if you dont run at least 3 espressos through to “get it going” so to speak you’ll be left with a very weak, flat drink lol (ask how I know, whoops).Since this is a manual frothing machine you are going be using the pannarello wand which on this is plastic which seemed strange at first as they are usually metal but honestly it shouldn’t be a problem I dont think and kind of gives more piece of mind fumbling around lol. Now this machine vs some of the autos I like better as this allows you to fully control the temp and frothiness of the milk to your desire rather than something doing it for you. While this does take some time to get the steam going it’s worth the weight as the milk comes out very jello like and exactly what youd expect which is great as 9/10 of these have a lot of trouble getting to this point, but not here. Another plus of having a manual froth machine is since you have temp control you dont have to worry about having too hot of a drink, and as someone that likes to drink theirs immediately if possible I really like this control here. I should note this does not come with a frothing pitcher so be sure if your using this feature you have one available (possibly thermometer as well if your ocd on temp?)Side note here were heading into fall at the moment and my kids LOVE hot coco and this machine you can really get nice hot water for this or Tea if thats your thing very easily and it comes out of the wand as well so its not tainted by the espresso flavor as it is on some other machines which I love. Another thing to note on this is that the bean hopper top is simply plastic, there is no seal on it which is kind of strange but keep this in mind I dont top up on beans because there is obviously going to be some air getting to them to dry out. Since it just sits on top, while the machine is in use it also rattles around so if you dont like that sound im sure you could put a small piece of clear tape or something to quiet it down but just note this.This machine blends right into my kitchen with a nice classy look which I love and its not too big either. Of course it’s on the loud side while in use but it kind of has to be, right? It has the usual DeLonghi self cleaning situation going on where it makes pucks that you have to clean out and has warnings when you need to descale and such as well. This machine does have a 2 year warranty as standard which is great piece of mind and can be extended by registering online. Overall I love this machine and it’s now part of my daily routine I dont think I could live without it, coming from prior older DeLonghi machines this is a very nice upgrade and highly recommended.

That being said for $650 a matte finish that does not show every speck of dust, finger print, and scratch would be better.Overall, I find the Delonghi to be an exceptionally built machine with solid internal mechanics that has the potential to last years if well maintained. The simple display makes every days use easy and the semi automatic cleaning and removable dishwasher safe parts makes cleaning a breeze.
