I was after a new Home Cinema as my Denon AVR 550BT was getting a bit old and tired, it still works and sounds good, but I wanted to try Atmos. I spoke with Craig in the Chester store and he couldn't have been more helpful and honest. I asked him what he thought about the Denon and adding the Eltax Monitor ATM (which are the cheapest upfiring speakers) and it would be much of an upgrade, he said it would be, but possibly not night and day difference. The difference is night and day!!! The sound is incredible! I don't know if it's the addition of the upfiring atmos speakers, but the sound is so immersive. On the old system, you could hear the sound coming individually from each of the rear speakers, but now, you do feel literally surrounded by the sound. The setup was easy and you just follow the on screen guide, I also used the Audyssey microphone for the set up. I have also changed some settings manually to suit my room, and it is superb. The DAB also works great and was also easy to set up. Make sure you download the HEOS app as this will also help.I can't recommend this system and Richer Sounds enough. Fantastic service as always. Cheers Craig 👍

I bought this as an upgrade from my older Denon 2113 receiver. I'm very pleased with it, its way better in pretty much every way - the sound quality, the setup menus, the seamless switching between music sources like Spotify and Heos, the DAB, the Dolby Atmos support, it's just miles better than the old unit.I've got my gaming PC, Sony Blu-ray player, Nintendo Switch and Nvidia Shield going in and an LG OLED and BENQ projector going out, everything works great except the Shield which throws out random HDCP errors unfortunately. Having done a lot of investigating online there seems to be handshaking issues with the shield and some Denon receivers. So I've had to force the shield to output HDCP 1.4 which does work but now I lose 4K HDR streams from the streaming services. It's a shame because everything else works beautifully. I'm toying with getting an AppleTV for the streaming services and keeping the shield for Plex as the AppleTV doesn't bitstream audio correctly from Plex. I guess this is just how things are with this sorry of tech, there is no one fits all solution.

The Sub channel was not triggering on first setup but tweaking settings (one hard to find option) gave me back the full soundscape I am used to. Crystal clear high and mid's plus Bass that is clean and powerful.I am using 4 matching Monitor Bronze 5s towers and a matching centre (from Richer Sounds) and seriously this is Perfect. With a firestick feeding one of the rear inputs we use Amazon Prime and Netflix and Audio and Video feed to our Samsung 75'' tv is really good. Oddly Prime seems to giver a better Audio and video result than netflix but that could be that native Prime is sending HDR, but since Netflix changed packages I may need to review if we are on the top package, and may not be getting the max quality available. so it may be down to the signal being received.Internet Radio is really simple an easy to set favourite channels for instant access to some really cool stations if you have any favourites.I have made some minor tweaks to push the Db slightly on centre channel as it really helps with dialogue but overall this is such a great product. Also the remote is simple and lightweight - unlike the brick that was with the Yamaha. By the way if anyone is looking at the older Yamaha amp it is actually also a great product although hard to find as it quite dated . Honestly just get it... You wont be disappointed.!

Price, service and product: all excellent. Here’s why. This AV receiver has a bunch of features give access to the latest technologies while making connectivity to 8K - if you ever feel the need. With Dolby Atmos audio you get height information but the virtual Atmos works well too, so you don't need even more speakers. That’s great news for anyone watching modern movies.More importantly, you can now connect every source device through it, simplifying the system and making it family-friendly because you only need one remote to switch and control everything.Gaming is well supported with automatic frame rate switching, as is connection to a range of online service such as Spotify and Amazon Alexa – though personally I don’t use those.Audio is high quality – ... MorePrice, service and product: all excellent. That’s great news for anyone watching modern movies.More importantly, you can now connect every source device through it, simplifying the system and making it family-friendly because you only need one remote to switch and control everything.Gaming is well supported with automatic frame rate switching, as is connection to a range of online service such as Spotify and Amazon Alexa – though personally I don’t use those.Audio is high quality – specification-wise and subjectively – sounding just as comfortable playing music from jazz to heavy rock to the subtleties of classical early music. The eARC support means any audio coming from the TV is uncompressed and supports most – probably all – audio formats your TV is likely to output.Three features I really like – and which persuaded me to choose the AVR-X2800H – are firstly Bluetooth, so I can listen over headphones late at night without disturbing anyone. Secondly the Direct/Pure Direct audio modes, which switch off any unnecessary digital devices inside the case, giving better hi-fi especially when listening to vinyl. Which leads me onto the third feature: a phono input. It’s a rare thing these days but if you have a turntable and listen to LPs using a moving magnet cartridge, this can eliminate the need for a pre-amp or phono stage: more simplification. There’s lots more to talk about but I’d really like to call out Richer Sounds as a great place to do business with – and I’ve no connection except as a happy customer. I’ve bought from them before and once again, customer service is second to none. The cherry on the cake was the price and service: for £499, I received the amp within one business day of a simple phone call with a real human being. This is a product that swims in the same waters as those costing at least 50% more, possibly because Denon is about to supersede it with another model, but if you focus on what’s need now and in the next few years, this will do the job admirably.
Arrived yesterday - the automated setup was straightforward and the sound was great straight from the box.The device is surprisingly large and heavy.I connected it to a Sony TV and it picked up eArc straight away. TV power button turns the receiver on and off OK. Initially I connected my Sony BluRay to the TV as usual. DVD and BD playback and sound worked fine but SACD's played but without sound. I moved the BD connection to the receiver HDMI socket and it played SACDs in multi speaker mode without problems. All in all very impressed with the simple set up. Less impressed with the manual (a PDF download) which is fairly impenetrable and the device menu structure, while easy to navigate, doesn't display many options without going into Advanced Settings but the ... MoreArrived yesterday - the automated setup was straightforward and the sound was great straight from the box.The device is surprisingly large and heavy.I connected it to a Sony TV and it picked up eArc straight away. Less impressed with the manual (a PDF download) which is fairly impenetrable and the device menu structure, while easy to navigate, doesn't display many options without going into Advanced Settings but the settings are complex and not well explained on screen or in the manual. I left well alone and settled for the automated setup for now. I bought the receiver as part of a bundle with Monitor Audio MASS 5.1 Mist speakers which are small but give impressive sound. I have decided to wall and ceiling mount the speakers but the matching brackets at £25 each seem rather expensive for what they are - they are well made though but you need to supply your own fixings (bit stingy at that price). Was impressed with Richer Sounds who were helpful on the phone and threw in some free cables.
Although this was my first choice AVR, I had decided to go for a cheaper option from another manufacturer. However, the team at the local shop advised me to spend the little bit extra and go for the Denon. They were right.I've had this in my home for a few days now, and I am over the moon with the sound. If you have never used a full-featured AVR before, like me, it can take a little bit of getting used to, and you may need to spend some time online to work out how to make it all come together, but the effort is worth it.The X2800H is also a music streamer because of the connectivity options and HEOS app, so your listening options are endless. I also only bought a pair of loudspeakers to go with this amp, but the included Audyssey microphone and built-in sound tuning system means that you still get to enjoy a virtualized Dolby surround sound experience from just those two units. You can, however, add side, height and centre speakers, as well as subwoofers, up to a 7.2 system, but Sudyssey will work with you to get the best out of any combination. There is support for a wired second zone/room, or you can fill the whole house with sound using HEOS-supported wireless speakers/systems.With the knowledge gained over the past few days, I plan to slowly add to my system, safe in the knowledge that this AVR is more than capable of handling anything I might need from it in this house.Good job, Denon (and Richer Sounds).
Great things come in small packages. SOOO delighted with these speakers and amp. Especially the speakers. The Cambridge Audio Min22 speakers are slightly bigger than a can of coke, but smaller than a pint of beer, yet they really produce a big, not blasting, but balanced sound. They also look and feel really well made and are easy to place due to their wide sound dispersion. The Cambridge Audio Minx X201 is the smallest hi-fi sub I've ever seen. For something not much bigger than a the cardboard box a toaster would be delivered in, this thing ROCKS. It's so small, it fits under my sofa. Now my sofa acts like part of the subwoofer. I have it on about 10% of its maximum volume. The Denon AV amp is what I would expect...a Japanese design so lots of settings, menus and submenus to get lost in, when all I would like is an input selector, bass, middle, treble and volume controls. That said, if you like all the bells and whistles, it gives you all these and does so very well at a great price. Can't thank the Richer Sounds telephone team enough. You've got me another great system for music and movies in a small home, but a sound that feels huge, but hasn't had the neighbours complaining. (yet!)
I got this device to upgrade from the old Denon AVR 4306 which wasn't 4K ready although it did still work with HD. The AVR-2800H DAB is a fantastic upgrade. It is much lighter to start with, looks great and was pretty easy to set up. It did take a while to set up but easy enough and was worth it when I started using it with my home cinema system. I am yet to fully explore all it's features as I have only had it for just over a week but I have not been disappointed yet.My main issue is that the manual is online - I'd rather have had a hard copy as well (there is an easy setup guide which is great) for ease but it's a small issue. Also, sometimes it's not as easy to figure which setting it needs to be on depending on the device being used - it's probably just about ... MoreI got this device to upgrade from the old Denon AVR 4306 which wasn't 4K ready although it did still work with HD. Having it be 8k ready as well is useful though I'm not sure when 8K will start to come into the main.I also got a great deal from Richer Sounds on this and the delivery took 1 day - no hassle whatsoever.4 out of 5 only because I have hadn't it longer enough to give it a proper test run. 4.5 in reality though so far.
Bought this to replace a Yamaha receiver that had failed, (no slight against Yamaha, they make fantastic products).Setting up was a breeze. Stick the included set up microphone on a tripod (or a really ingenious cardboard tower, also included). Step through the process and boom, it's all set up. Use the app to easily custom name inputs (Sky, Apple TV etc) and away you go.Now we get to the juicy part, the audio. Well, where do I start? I know, with my partner. She is always asking why we need to many speakers and why everything needs to be in 4K when HD looks just as good? When she played one of her Netflix shows, she said "you know? I can really hear the difference between the old and new amp"And it's true, you can - the sound is amazing. So clear, so precise and so open.I played Warrior Charge by Aswad, a song from the early 80's. No going to lie and say I heard anything that I had not heard before, but my god was everything so much more defined. If you then put that stereo source into faux 5.1, it's like the song was originally recorded in 5.1 (it was not, that tech was not available in this form, then). Surround sound mode really brings the music alive and it doesn't sound forced at all.I haven't had the chance to set up DAB on mine as the included aerial isn't sufficient to pick up a single in the room the receiver is located in, so currently working on an external aerial to make that work.If this amp is in your budget or even just outside your budget, work another week to bring it in and then go fir it - you will not be disappointed unless you are replacing something that is over £1k in price.Oh, I nearly forgot - video is also a lot cleaner than I had previously seen - it has really stepped up the quality from Sky puck and Apple TV video is out of this world.I absolutely recommend.
Setup to get proper sound took a long time. I had my LG C1 working fine with a 4 year old Denon 2300 AVR that a moving company recently ruined. I have a 5.2 setup with all Klipsch RP speakers, and after a fair amount of effort this unit does produce quality sound.Out of the box, the settings that I had used with the 2300 previously did not work well with this 2800. Over the course of a few days, using primarily the web control function of the denon AVR app, I was able to finally dial-in excellent sound. However, an oddity was that I was using DTS Neural X as my primary processor with the 2300 and it sounds horrible on this new unit no matter what little tweaks I do. However, an oddity was that I was using DTS Neural X as my primary processor with the 2300 and it sounds horrible on this new unit no matter what little tweaks I do. Dolby Surround has turned out to be the best sound processing option, but only after I adjusted and tweaked various levels, the EQ, and distances just-right before this new unit sounded good. All that aside, once I adjusted the settings, this unit really does sound good. The heos app has a basic interface if you have music downloaded on your own phone that you want to stream. You can make it happen, but it's not a seamless experience and it's not user friendly. Is it possible that moving up to a more expensive unit would resolve some of the neck-pain this unit forces upon you... maybe. However, at 50 years old, there are certain price points that I just will not accept and the next step up model price was a bridge too far.I would also offer a word of caution to pay attention to the BB return policy which is only 14 days. I thought it was 30 days, but you only get an extended return period if you pay for various Best buy membership types.Final comment, e-arc between my LG C1 and this unit would not work seamlessly. Sound was transferred, but the LG remote would not control volume up and down nor mute over HDMI. I finally erased the external device settings and switched to an optical cable and now I can control all these things through the LG magic remote. I cannot tell much difference in sound quality, so if you have a similar setup don't waste time with HDMI as the LG system recognizes 20 something denon receiver options, not by model but rather it says here's option one, here's option two, here's option three... I tried four or five configurations which without fail would not control the volume.
