Bought this a few weeks ago to replace an old Pioneer av receiver I(which I also got from Rucker sounds), the old one having lived past its life expectancy but it served me well. Now this amp with its 4K throughput I can get the best out of the equipment I have surrounding it . The remote is simple to use and has all the features you need. But most importantly for me from the time it was delivered to the time setup was complete was less than 20 mins . Sound is crisper, louder , picture throughout is a lot better . All I need now is some better speakers to cope with the improved performance...which I will be coming back to Richer sounds for without a doubt .

I bought an Onkyo receiver about 6 years ago from Richer Sounds in Stockport for my surround sound to watch Blu Rays and play Xbox games - unfortunately it stopped working and I think the guarantee had run out. I then moved and after looking at the cost/quality ratio online, I called Stockport to see if they had one of two left and they told me that indeed they had, but I would need to go to Prestwich Richer Sounds to pick up. I then spent a good hour there discussing my options as I also needed a CD player and advice about an adaptor for my Denon turntable. The customer service was really awesome and Ben who I had spoken to on the phone to reserve the AVRX550 looked after me really well.I am really chuffed to bits with the quality and having bought a 4k TV (from ... MoreI bought an Onkyo receiver about 6 years ago from Richer Sounds in Stockport for my surround sound to watch Blu Rays and play Xbox games - unfortunately it stopped working and I think the guarantee had run out. GENIUS! ;)I've also paid for a 7 year warranty so if I have any problems I'm covered. Thanks again Richer Sounds! :)

I replaced my last AV receiver as it didn't have DHCP 2.2 so wouldn't pass 4k copyrighted content, this handles that fine. However, it was only a week or so after setup that I found that I couldn't select my record player or CD player which were plugged into the "Audio Inputs". These are shared inputs for the HDMI inputs with the same name ("CBL/SAT" and "Media Player"), why would I connect a device via HDMI and separately run audio jacks for the sound? I wouldn't. I never imagined that this step to the future would mean that a CD player is no longer a consideration. I saw there were audio jack inputs so thought that was that, I would connect my audio devices there. I tried using audio "Auto" select but it never switches to analogue even when the CD player is ... MoreI replaced my last AV receiver as it didn't have DHCP 2.2 so wouldn't pass 4k copyrighted content, this handles that fine. I tried using audio "Auto" select but it never switches to analogue even when the CD player is playing, so I have to go through the menus and manually select Analogue for the CD player and then manually put it back to HDMI when I want to use the same named "Media Player" HDMI input. It's a mess. Solve one problem (DHCP) and cause another. The language in the menus is messy and some of the on screen information telling me what mode it's in is not obvious, I don't know what it's telling me at times.

I have waited fora few weeks to post this review, so that I reflect fully considered opinions, not initial thoughts. I have to say that it’s a great AV amp and that I’d heartily recommend it. It replaced a 20+ year old Sony AV Receiver, which had served me well until it blew up, and the manager in the Glasgow Branch of Richer Sounds did warn me that I may have to reign in my expectations if I was comparing my new amp to the old one. I’m happy to say he was incorrect and my 2.1 set up with a Yamaha Sub woofer is excellent quality, so much so that i don’t think my (Philips) dull range speakers are good enough and I’m thinking about a pair of floor standers. Great amp, goes way loud enough and has Bluetooth streaming. I’ve no need for Atmos...yet, so it’s omission ... MoreI have waited fora few weeks to post this review, so that I reflect fully considered opinions, not initial thoughts. I’ve no need for Atmos...yet, so it’s omission doesn’t bother me and the only other thing I would have liked, but don’t have is a voltage trigger for the sub woofer(which I have to power on/off manually). Highly recommended...especially with the 6 year warranty.
The Positive:After years of hit-and-miss purchases of soundbars I finally decided to go for hifi separates. For my relatively small living room with no space for rear speakers or the possibility of Atmos speakers in the future I was happy to select this Denon to improve sound from my 50-inch HDR TV. I matched it with Q Acoustics 3020i's and the Q Acoustics centre speaker. The sound, especially speech from centre, is outstanding. When viewing with my Amazon Fire stick the sound quality is terrific with movies etc. When the source is high end sound this Denon really picks up every detail with clarity. Bring on binge nights-in!The Slightly Negative:I think if one has kids - i.e., connecting multiple sources like Playstation, BluRay and more - then the number or ... MoreThe Positive:After years of hit-and-miss purchases of soundbars I finally decided to go for hifi separates. But then you have to jump £200 in price. Also, for larger living rooms, if you want/think to add Atmos speakers in future this AVR will not be right for you.
I bought this unit to replace an aging Sony amp that I had bought second hand nearly 10 years ago. So technology has moved on a lot! I now am able to connect all my video sources to the Amp & have just 1 connection to the TV - a great improvement. Switching off the TV also switches off the amp & (most) connected sources. Only an old sat receiver ignores the HDMI commands, but that is as old as my previsous amp so not surprising.Bluetooth is an added bonus but I have not tried that feature yet.Overall the amp is very good value for money and better sound too.
Bought this to upgrade to hdmi connections and to be able to decode more advanced digital surround sound formats and really pleased with the purchase.Easy to set up (the supplied speaker level set--up mic makes setting the speaker levels simple) and connect to my existing equipment and worked (with a few tweaks) first time.Nice clear picture (particularly sky q uhd) and nice well balanced full sound with plenty of different sound options. The built in bluetooth receiver is the icing on the cake to enable music streaming from my mobile.Only downside was I couldn't work out how to convert an analogue video input from my old Wii into an digital hdmi output but got round this by purchasing a £5 hdmi converter online. Couldn't get an answer from Denon as to whether this tech was actually included in the receiver and I had missed it in the settings somewhere but if it wasn't then I would havethought it should have been. But a minor inconvenience and easily resolved. So overall really pleased with it and would recommend to others.
I've always known that my aging Denon AVR-1602 wasn't doing the Mission 75 series speakers it was connected to justice so I decided it was time to upgrade to something more modern.Given that both my old and new amps are both budget amps from different eras I didn't really expect the jump in sound quality that this amp delivers. While with my old amp I was always aware or which speaker was doing what and when I find that hooked up to this amp the speakers vanish and the result is you are totally immersed in sound.Yes binding posts are missing as is the ability to bi wire the front channels but it's a budget amp so I can forgive it that. Sound is what really matters and this thing makes speakers that are possibly Missions finest hour sing the way they are supposed ... MoreI've always known that my aging Denon AVR-1602 wasn't doing the Mission 75 series speakers it was connected to justice so I decided it was time to upgrade to something more modern.Given that both my old and new amps are both budget amps from different eras I didn't really expect the jump in sound quality that this amp delivers. My old Denon amp never achieved that feat so I'm very happy indeed with this purchase.
I recently purchased a Denon AVRX550BT and a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 230 speakers to link up to my TV and turntable. I have to say Richer Sounds Chester were excellent from start to finish and beyond. I had several lengthy calls with the guys there during which they listened to my needs and advised me a selection of products within my price range but there was never any hard sell. Once I had decided on what I wanted they helped out with organised speedy delivery. After delivery they were on hand to give advice over the phone during the set up. A week or so after setting up I had a few more questions and the guys in Chester spent another 30 min call talking me through my questions and fine tuning the system. I bought this AV receiver to replace my trust old Onkyo from a decade or so ago whilst upgrading to a newer 4K TV.Initial setup was exceptionally easy with the setup mic and inbuilt automatic configuration doing all the hard work.End result was a clean and crisp setup but the sound does seem to lack a little 'richness' which my old Onkyo delivered without problem. By no means bad, in fact the audio quality seems excellent, but I think a bit more digging through the advanced option is needed to finish off the setup.Volume control seems a little erratic when trying to make larger changes changes to volume (e.g. from loud to very quiet, or vice versa); rather than persisting with a lot of small changes, it makes much larger jumps in volume and I've not managed to ... MoreI bought this AV receiver to replace my trust old Onkyo from a decade or so ago whilst upgrading to a newer 4K TV.Initial setup was exceptionally easy with the setup mic and inbuilt automatic configuration doing all the hard work.End result was a clean and crisp setup but the sound does seem to lack a little 'richness' which my old Onkyo delivered without problem.
