Essentially, if you need a simple CD player without USB (isn’t that these days an even bigger anachronism on a CD player than the CD player itself?), aren’t interested in SACDs, and you like the physical styling of this machine then it has to rank as a clear first choice.Initially, I was slightly put off the Denon by its tethered mains lead, but this makes no difference to the sound and at least it can’t come loose and fall out accidentally. He connected everything up precisely as I requested, did not interfere in my listening session, was genuinely knowledgeable about the products and gave helpful, unbiased and accurate advice without any hard-sell. The Denon was ordered by telephone a few days later, price matched and delivered quickly by (the ever reliable, in my experience) DPD. No wonder Richer Sounds are so highly rated.

Decent machine for the money.Cons: The Denon seems to turn itself off completely about ten minutes after playing a CD - leaving the CD trapped in the drawer. You have to power-up the Denon again to rescue the CD, and then power-down, if you've done with using the CD-player. Weird.

When my old Sherwood CD player (purchased from Richer Sounds back in 1994) started to struggle to play longer discs, and the drawer kept sticking, I went to the website to look for a replacement. The Denon DCD600NE looked to fit the bill, I ordered it and delivery was the next day. Easy to plug in and set up. Sounds great with my Pioneer amp and Wharfedale speakers and I am noticing details of music on albums that I couldn't hear with the old one. Only drawbacks are lack of a programming feature and have to skip through tracks rather than just press the number but these are minor.

Very pleased with its sound which, although I think the sonic differences between CD players is mostly quite subtle, clearly has more “get up and go” to it than either the Yamaha or NAD players that share the same system with it (don’t ask me why). It compares very well with the (sadly completely unreliable) Rega Apollo R player which it replaces. Furthermore, the mechanism is quiet and the build quality is very good. I have owned and liked a Denon DCD520ae cd player for quite a few years now, and decided to get myself a post-lockdown treat of a DCD 600NE from R.S. The 600NE has a very uncluttered front panel, with the bare minimum of buttons. There is no headphone socket and volume control compared to the 520. The disc drawer has a quiet, refined movement to it. I don't pretend to understand some of the terminology hi-fi reviewers use to describe sound: all I can say is the 520ae had a great sound for an entry-level player, but the 600NE is even better. There seems to be more detail in the lower notes which I like. The 600NE can auto switch-off after 30minutes idle.In conclusion, I am very pleased with this purchase, and the usual exemplary service from R.S.

It also plays CD-R discs with no problems, though it is slow to 'Read' the disk before playing it. The display is minimal - I'm accustomed to the better display on my Rotel RCD-1072 and on my 30 year-old Rotel CD changer. The big drawback of the DCD-600NE is the completely inadequate RC-1234 remote, which is a generic 'control every component' remote. 49 buttons and not one will turn the power on to the CD player, or open and close the drawer. Fortunately the much better remote from my 1993 Rotel changer will control the DCD-600NE.
