We already own a design & drill set so I knew my kids would love this activity center and I was right! My girls who are 4.5 years old and 2.5 years old loved creating different designs and I loved seeing them take turns using the power drill and screwdriver. This set comes with 20 activity cards so my 4.5 year old enjoyed picking an activity card and creating it on the board. I love this is helping both of them to work on their fine motor skills and it is also teaching them to share, count, practice their colors and be creative! All the pieces are durable and high quality and even when my 2.5 year old is a little rough with it, it still works perfectly! This is an excellent toy for budding engineer.I was a little skeptical of getting this drill kit for my daughter. But now I can't pry her away from this toy! She is learning her colors and counting with the colored screws. I have not shown her the electric drill, because I wanted her to work with her hands instead. So she has been manually screwing each bolt onto the board. This way, she is practicing her hand-eye coordination too. The screws and screwdriver are big enough in size that she can work with them easily, and not causing her any frustration. Each time she plays with this toy, it occupies her a good hour or so. Her normal attention span with toys is, on average, 5 minutes. So I am very pleased with this product.We have not moved onto copying the pattern ... I like the outward appearance of the Educational Insights Design and Drill Activity Center. The box that held the pieces seems durable enough to hold the pieces within it. The weight of the box was a little heavier than I anticipated but not bad. I would not feel comfortable letting my child carry the box at this time. My child likes the colors of the bolts and the fact that there were so many to play with. My 3 year old grandson loves it! Once we got the batteries in the drill he went straight to work. He played with it nonstop for over an hour. There are many holes to put the screws in and so therefore the project can tie them up for quite awhile. Then they get to unscrew and take them out! Plus there are around 20 pattern cards so they can create different designs on the card. My grandson is rarely held captive by a toy for more than 10 minutes at a time and I was so pleasantly surprised to see how much he likes it. His little two year old sister would love to get her hands on it, but he doesn’t want anything to do with sharing this toy yet.
