This first thing I will say about this pack is that it is very comfortable. This is great for hiking and traveling. The gear straps can be positioned to attach a wide range of items. The Y-shaped frame and hip fins wrap around the hips and lumber pad really do distribute the weight you carry. Some great features are: walking pole holder, material loops on front & lid, load adjustment straps, elasticated inner compartment for wet items, lid compartment, removable backpack lid, separate compartment with removable base, hip fins with pockets, key clip; just to name a few. This backpack has so many zippered compartments to store everything you need with making it accessible, versatile and comfortable.

I used the 45 L Aircontact on my recent "Fastest Known Time" unsupported hike of the White Mountains 48 4,000 footers.For that hike, I carried 8 heavy days of food so I needed a pack that could carry and disperse the weight well. I had used the Aircontact 35 L on my thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail earlier this year and had been impressed with its ability to carry an extra heavy load in the Sierra. It has a beautiful thought-out Y frame for distributing the weight equally and it's easy to adjust the straps and hip/wait straps as well. This pack is very sturdy and comfortable and the main compartment is spacious and deep for packing a good number of items, and there's also a separate bottom compartment too. There's even a small strap loop on one of the straps to hang your sunglasses on which is pretty awesome. The biggest issue that I have with backpacks is being able to easily get things out of it throughout our hike without having to unpack everything. My favorite thing about this one is that there is a large zipper in the very front of the bag that allows me to open up the backpack almost as a door to get items. With this access point I am able to get items that are at the very bottom or the very top without having to take much extra out. This is especially great at lunchtime, I’m able to get everything I need out without having to do too much unpacking and repacking. I'm not a fan of the VariSlide system as it doesn't seem to stay in place. The VariQuick system from the old model kept the back length in place. IDK I'll take it into REI and maybe they can see what they think about the adjusting the hip to shoulder length issue. There is a lot to like on this pack. Being able to open the pack to get quick access to gear is very cool and being able to remove the top piece is cool as well to save weight on shorter trips. I also like that the new version has straps to latch a tent to the lower portion of the pack. I live in Colorado and my wife and I spend a lot of time in the backcountry. My wife and I have used several bags and this is now my wife’s favorite for backpack camping. I took this bag out for three days and found even though it says it’s made for a woman, I found it very comfortable and had no problems with it.The first thing I noticed is it’s lightweight for the size. The ripstock fabric has held up very well and I haven’t had any tears or pulls. It’s light but very durable.My wife said she thought it was incredibly comfortable for her. I bought this pack because my old one had reached the end of its life and I wanted some newer features. This backpack was great. I took it to Yosemite for a week, and it worked out wonderfully. I'm used of more side pockets and pouches that were on my old one which made for great places to store small items like snacks, head lamps, first aid kits and other things. There was plenty of space for those things in this one but with more "open space" organization took a little more thought. The hydration pouch is deep which is great, because the bladder I have is long and flat and fits very well in this pack.I'm a big guy who also is usually the pack mule for my family, and with this bag the same weight from my old Jansport felt so much better. Deuters Aircontact Core 50+10 in graphite shale is the perfect color pack for the rugged outdoorsman such as myself who has a problem keeping things 'clean looking'. I couldn't be happier with the massive size of this park or the abundance of pockets it has. But, my favorite part about this backpack is how comfortable it is! The air mesh ventilation system makes sweat minimal. I'm very fond of the fanny pack type pocket by your hip that makes carrying and accessing your essentials effortless.
