Deuter Aircontact Lite 50 + 10 Backpack (Atlantic Ink)

The Aircontact Lite 50+10 is a balanced combination of ventilation, comfort when carrying heavy loads and weight, letting it compete with heavier backpacks of similar size. The main feature is the Aircontact Lite back system, increasing ventilation and airflow around the back by up to 15% - always a bonus on warmer days! Breathable padding has special hollow venting foam that moves air through with every movement, effectively pumping air through the back system. It has full adjustment for different back lengths and is complemented by stabiliser straps, a chest strap and a padded waistbelt with a pocket on each side. Comfort is king and it's what Deuter focused on with this backpack. Among the many features is the split bottom compartment - perfect for a sleeping bag or to keep wet clothing separate until you have a chance to dry it out. If you need to put in a longer piece of equipment then simply unzip the divider and the whole length of the bag is available. For even more storage, Deuter have added a spacious front stash pocket, ideal for a waterproof to be ready if the weather suddenly changes. For even more space, the Aircontact Lite shows off its +10 litres of storage with an extendable top lid. The back straps loosen just like the securing ones at the front, letting the lid itself raise up and allow the collar at the top of the bag to be filled to capacity, giving you that extra bit of space for your adventures.

This pack was gifted to me for my birthday and I was so excited to try it out last week on an island working holiday!Usually, I do multiday tramps of up to 5 days in length, so it was a perfect opportunity to see how the pack would hold 4 days worth of "normal" holiday gear, as I was staying in a villa and not out hiking.Between a mix of electronics for working remotely, clothing, toiletries, etc, I was comfortably carrying about 17kg, without a need for any other luggage. There was still tonnes of space left in the pack too.We didn't take a car across to the local island, just the ferry, so the pack had to be comfortable enough for walking to our destinations (and it's bloody hilly island!)Super happy with it! Comfortable on the hips, easily adjustable around the shoulders to have the shoulder rest perfectly supporting the upper back without much weight dragging on the shoulders. From this first trip, I'd be happy to extrapolate that it'd be a great pack for a 5-day tramp. Very roomy, but packs very tidily in a well-balanced column, with good support, good padding and enough customisable strapping for the individual frame.Love the little snack pockets on the hip belt and easily can carry 3L of water in the two side pockets. Good space inside for a Camelbak too. There are two separate compartments that can be connected by opening a zip. The main upper larger compartment is able to be opened in a "suitcase" style, which is handy for lying clothes flat if using the pack as I did this time for a trip rather than a tramp.Didn't get a chance to try the attached pack cover - it does seem to take up a bit of room and doesn't compact down as well. However, it is in its own little compartment and right at the bottom of the pack so it probably isn't an issue as it'll be compressed by things on top of it.Overall, very happy :)

Awesome!

I fractured a rib six months before the trip that I used this pack. Though the rib has healed, I struggle with muscle spasms when too much pressure is on my shoulders/mid back. I hiked 30+ miles carrying 15-20 lbs in this backpack and I felt as normal as I usually would (tired and sore but not immobile or in severe pain)! Super impressed by the design and how easy it was to carry. Pros: ergonomic adjustable design, spacious inner compartment that can be separated into 2 compartments if needed, pockets on hip belt, opening for water bladder tube near top of pack for easy access. Cons: wish it had more pockets on the outside.

I've been backpacking for over 30 years and this is hands down the best pack I've ever carried. I like how the shoulder straps are adjustable for height as I get older, its nice to have the ability to adjust it. The back support is outstanding. The way the padding parallels the spine without touching it should be the standard all packs follow. The shape of the back fits my old bad back perfectly and I'm sure aids in long hikes.I first purchased this pack in 2010 and it has been an absolute workhorse ever sense. My son is now big enough for that original 2010 pack so I bought a new 2020 pack for myself and it is just as well build. My only concern is the shoulder straps are much more narrow than the older version and the hip belt is also a little less padded. I don't really care, but it was very noticeable. The shoulder straps are using a different method to attach the sternum strap that limits the ability to add a carabiner with whistle, light, compass, etc. I like a couple extra straps on my shoulder straps for adding stuff, and this new design is very streamlined. I do like the new detachable top compartment, seems handy. I also really like the larger side pockets for water bottles etc. It interesting how they made the side straps that go through those side pockets able to be rerouted outside the pocket. They really did think of just aobut everything. This is a great bag.

Best brand of packs I've had
6 February 2022

I've had multiple Deuter packs over the years and they have never disappointed! I bought this pack for my girlfriend and she finds it perfect for her outdoor requirements. With great design, intuitive features and comfy usability it makes for a fantastic piece of gear! The in built rain cover is perfect and always available. The hip straps formed for the female figure on the SL fits her great.

this backpack is more streamlined and lighter than my lowe alpine bag of the same size. i really like the two pockets, one on each side of the hip belt, which are quite roomy. the pocket for the rain cover is large enough to also accommodate my rain jacket, rain pants and rain cap. the pocket of the bag's lid is huge. finally this bag's separate sleeping bag compartment is the largest of any large backpack i have owned. i am very glad i bought the last one, after searching and prevaricating for several months. i carried 50 pounds over 100 km on a 14-day trip and never regretted this purchase.

Excellent backpacking pack

I've become an instant fan of Deuter from this purchase. I bought this bag a year and a half ago and it has served me very well. I bought it for both travelling and backpacking trips in the mountains. This bag followed me while travelling through 18 countries over 6 months and countless trips through airports. I took it up Mount Kilimanjaro, across South East Asia, Africa and the UK. Since returning to Canada, I've taken in on several multi-day backpacking trips including the West Coast Trail. The pack still looks completely brand new except for my rain cover which has protected my bag from everything from rain and airplanes to travelling dust and dirt.PROS: I've had over 50lbs in the bag and it was as comfortable as 50lbs could ever be. The pack is very adjustable and has an excellent suspension system. I love the air contact on the back frame which allows air to flow and reduces sweaty backs. It has many useful and organizational pockets, including deep pockets on both sides for water bottles, It has a bottom separate compartment for a sleep bag. Easy access to all areas of the bag. Tons of straps and loops for anything you might need. Although, I've owned the pack less than two years, it has been heavily used and proved durable.CONS: A couple cons that are minor issues, while the hip and shoulder straps are well padded and this can be pro for comfort when carrying heavy loads in cooler weather, it can also make it quite warm and sweaty. Another con is that the bag itself is on the heavier side (over 6lbs), but that's the trade off for padding, pockets and straps and I find the extra weight worth it. The final con is that this bag comes with a hefty price tag.Overall, I'm very satisfied with pack and look forward to a long and healthy relationship together.

Great pack: comfortable; lots of useful features.
13 October 2019

I bought this pack to augment my 40L pack that I use for summer hiking/camping. As the cooler months approach and the need for warmer kit increases my 40L just isn't big enough. The increased size does what you would expect, but there is more to this pack than size. When set for comfort it makes a 15kg load all but disappear. Pull everything tight for more control and the contents of the pack move as one with your torso. The compression rigging has a couple of optional layouts that make stowing gear externally pretty easy. Hip pockets are never a bad thing and are fairly roomy. The separate space for sleeping equipment is a first for me and could be useful and the expandable top to get the extra 10L is great for when you need to pack out with food and water.I am ... MoreI bought this pack to augment my 40L pack that I use for summer hiking/camping. I guess I will get to see how water resistant the pack is as the weather gets more 'interesting', but I doubt I'll stop lining and drybagging the must keep dry items.

Great space and features
27 July 2020

I haven't had much of an opportunity to test this on the trail, but so far I love it. Plenty of space for my gear with the adjustable extra top space. The flex hip belt is great so that the whole pack doesn't move when I walk. I love the "airspace" on the back panel, as it does seem to help with ventilation. It is streamlined and visually pleasing as well. The fact that I can adjust the height of the shoulder straps where they attach to the pack is great. I think my only issue with it that I have found so far is that the mesh pockets on the side, where water bottles would likely go, are not necessarily easy to reach when wearing the pack. Excited to test this on trail.

This bag changed my life and saved my bony hips!
25 March 2019

I wanted to write a note to your company expressing my genuine joy in finding your Aircontact Lite 60+10 SL pack! I have had a terrible time finding a pack to fit me properly. I have a narrow frame and no padding on my hips. Again and again salespeople and friends pointed me to other leading brand bags. Those packs just never fit me and even hurt me just walking around the stores! This pack fit me perfectly right off. And, since I bought it 3 months ago I have already taken in on a 3 week adventure in Patagonia, Chile and on 2 overnights in the Southeast of the US. Thank you so much for your product. i wouldn't have been able to make those trips without this bag! Thank you!!!!

Well organized pack, adjustable, and sharp looking
26 April 2021

I am quite pleased with the fit of this pack. Nice hip straps that I anticipate will support weight without chafing. Seem like quality fasteners that are easy to find and use. Shoulder straps are the right spacing on my shoulders (I am 5'10" with broader shoulders) and not likely to chafe my neck like some packs.
