Acme, you pulled a fast one on me!

This was my first purchase from Acme tools, and will likely be my last. In March of 23' they shipped me this saw. It was manufactured in 21' and had a recall back in 8/22. Dewalt pulled all of these saws from the shelves, and yet, this saw was shipped to me 8 months later. Now, after only a few weeks of using the saw, I'm having to build a box, box it up and send it back to Dewalt and wait for a replacement in the middle of a huge project. Acme, you were going to be my go to for tools, but after this incident, I will buy elsewhere. You shipped very quickly, but this is a huge disappointment. Thank God the XPS stopped working yesterday and I had to call Dewalt, because I could have been seriously injured.

My first Miter Saw and after reading all the reviews, I decided to go with Dewalt. So far it has been fantastic. I did check the alignment as all the You-Tube videos recommend and it was perfect. In the midst of a few projects and it is a dream. Fast and easy to use. I did purchase a Dewalt mobile stand and that adds to the ease of use and storing after use. Yes my garage looks like a Dewalt display. JB Tools was also the best place to buy this tool.

Genius with two Achilles heels

It's an absolute beast of a saw, and I now have six of these for my crew guys. They last forever in the harshest of conditions, they're built like tanks and are seemingly indestructible. If there's ever a component failure, every part - down to the tiniest screw - is available immediately, off-the-shelf. The machine will do anything from rough crosscutting of railway sleepers, to performing perfect, delicate mitre cuts on superfine mouldings, all with total accuracy, and with full adjustability for those times when it's been bashed about onsite for a few months and has been knocked slightly out of square. The XPS LED light system is infinitely better than any laser line, since it shows you exactly where the outer edge of the blade tooth is going to land, and thus ... MoreIt's an absolute beast of a saw, and I now have six of these for my crew guys. The machine will do anything from rough crosscutting of railway sleepers, to performing perfect, delicate mitre cuts on superfine mouldings, all with total accuracy, and with full adjustability for those times when it's been bashed about onsite for a few months and has been knocked slightly out of square. The XPS LED light system is infinitely better than any laser line, since it shows you exactly where the outer edge of the blade tooth is going to land, and thus allows cuts which are absolutely, totally accurate. They're just the most robust, reliable and well-built mitre saws out there. Two major downsides, though -1) They're bone-crunchingly heavy. It's the kind of machine which you want to bring to the job, get rigged up on the stand - and leave it there. It's absolutely NOT best suited to jobs where lots of stairs are involved, or for work in areas where there isn't enough room to swing a cat. For small-scale 2nd fix and trim work, get yourself a 190mm Makita LS0714 instead (or ideally - as well as). Expensive - but 100% the absolute best small mitre saw out there. And ....2) The dust extraction is absolutely hopeless, even when hooked up to an £800 M-Class Festool extractor running at maximum speed with a 36mm hose. If you have lots of large-scale cutting to do - be prepared to stop every 10 minutes to vacuum up the vast piles of sawdust which are lathered all over the floor, the stand, and both the bed and base of the saw.If you can live with these two downsides - it's fabulous. If you can't - your only realistic alternative is a Festool Kapex which is lighter and has state-of-the art dust extraction ........... but which also comes with a list of alternative downsides five times bigger than the above. Hope that helps.

Great value for money

My last Dewalt mitre saw of this size lasted 20 + years and has been superb throughout, so I’m expecting big things from this one.Only used it once to date and it seems up to the task. Really nice saw with some improvements over the DW708. The xps light should be useful for those dark early starts on site.My only complaint about my previous saw and also this one is the weight of it. It’s a bit of a heavy beast.

Horrible customer service
16 January 2023

Work light failed after 1 use and I've been getting the runaround for 3 months trying to get it fixed. The owners manual directs you to the web portal which is a joke, and there's no phone number to call. In the meantime I'm stuck with a $600 paperweight that I was able to use exactly once and I can't get it fixed. To add insult to injury, this model is being sold to the public with an active (serious) safety recall that you're not informed about until you register the warranty. Never again Dewalt. I've got half a mind to throw this piece of garbage through your corporate HQ window. It should be a crime to push this trash on the public, then treat them as if you didn't just steal their money.

My Reviews About Dws 780

In spite of the fact that my old Craftsman compound miter saw despite everything works, I need an approach to cut more extensive sheets (more extensive than the craftsman 8" max) without attempting to flip the board or cut on the table saw. This Dewalt at 16" cut profundity handles an a lot more extensive scope of board widths and is precise. This saw runs a lot of smoother , calmer, and more precise than my craftsman. Evident other improvement is the shadow line, which lights up your cut zone and shows where the sharp edge will cut. Cuts are effectively inside 1/64" utilizing the shadow line. The cost was average at the hour of $499. I have just several negatives. The cost was average at the hour of $499. I have just several negatives. At the point when you drop the edge down to the cut, position your cutie and hit the trigger, the saw is incredible to such an extent that the saw arm hops down into the wood before you're prepared. You simply need to ensure that you pull the trigger well over the work piece before bringing it down for the cut. A subsequent negative would be the profundity important for setting this up on a work seat. I have a 24" profound work seat and it won't fit. You need around 36" seat profundity. This is somewhat characteristic in all the sliding miter saws however, only somewhat more regrettable on this one because of the 16" cut profundity. I added additional wood to the highest point of my work seat to suit the additional profundity in case I'm utilizing it on the seat (I likewise purchased the dewalt stand, great!) . Different surveys referenced that the 2 bars that the metal balls ride on for the sliding movement get gummed up with saw dust. It appears as though all these sliding saws utilize a similar strategy. It slides smooth for me out of the crate. Out of alert and on the grounds that I just utilize the sliding around 5 to 10% of the time, I included 1" i.d. course protection to these round bars. It's modest, just $2.50 for 12', and spreads the bars totally, fixing at each end (see pic). They possibly take a couple of scones to evacuate on the off chance that I need the sliding component. I cut the pieces 1/8" longer than required so it would be a cozy fit. By and large extremely content with this buy, strongly recommended! !http://thebestmitersaw.net/

Not so great

Always wanted to splash out on a decent sliding mitre saw so thought I'd break the bank and ordered myself the Dewalt as I was fitting skirting and facings around the house. The cutting of the machine was superb. Although I was coming from a cheap alternative.I then started to use the sliding motion of the saw and it was absolutely terrible. I had the saw on a smallish round garden table which was firm enough but the sliding mechanism was that stiff and sticky it was almost pulling the table over. Even if it was on a proper sliding saw table it would have been exactly the same. I took myself up to a well known diy shed to try out other sliding mitre saws and with all of them you could easily pull the saw back and forth with your pinky. On the dewalt I had you required the full strength of your hand.I googled the problem and it seems its a pretty common occurrence. No amount of lubricating the sliding rails according to peoples opinion on Google would help it.I then cleaned the machine to take it back as it was clearly defective and noticed 2 small hairline cracks on the operating handle. It had obviously been dropped at some point and twisted the sliding rails hence why it wouldn't slide properly although no evidence of this on the box. Its a shame as it was a lovely machine to operate otherwise.

This saw is a beast

This saw is virtually everything I needed in a dual bevel, sliding compound miter saw. Calibrating the saw out of the box was a piece of cake. If you can read and follow instructions you'll have no trouble zeroing it out.My first use for this saw wasn't for a woodworking project. I used it to cut an aluminum handrail for a cable railing system. I changed out the blade to the DeWalt 12" non ferrous 96 tooth blade and it cut through the aluminum like a hot knife through butter. Nice clean cuts on the bevels.Changing the blade was somewhat tricky the first time, but that was only the first time. I'll attribute that to a learning curve on a new saw.I'm very sure the performance on wood will be just as good if not better. There are a couple of things that ... MoreThis saw is virtually everything I needed in a dual bevel, sliding compound miter saw. I'll attribute that to a learning curve on a new saw.I'm very sure the performance on wood will be just as good if not better. There are a couple of things that prevented me from giving this saw a 5 Rating. The CUTLINE Blade Positioning System is not worth even listing as an attribute of this saw. Outside in the sunlight it is impossible to see the shadow the CUTLINE is supposed to create on your work surface. Even when the sunlight dissipated and the CUTLINE was visible it wasn't a crisp line line a laser line is.The second thing that was no better than just 'ehhh' was the dust collection system. I would say it was 40% to 50% efficient. There was a lot of dust everywhere. The fact of the matter is, I did empty the dust collection bag at the end of the day and it had a decent amount of dust in it, but there was an equal amount of dust everywhere in my work area as well. The last thing is the size of this beast. It takes up a lot of room in my shed. If you're tight on space this saw might not be right for you. Conclusion: Functionally this saw is absolutely great. The cuts it makes, with ease of setting miters and bevels is just what the doctor ordered. The few 'cons' are worth noting, and collectively I'd take off a half star for them and give the rating a 4.5. However, I obviously can't do that and they are definitely worth mentioning so a full star off for them is what it is. I'd still recommend this saw to someone in the market for it.

Very Nice Saw

I have been looking for a new saw for some time and I love this saw. The cut line light makes it easy to get an accurate cut. Dust collection is not bad but it certainly does not pickup all the dust. I suspect that hooking up to a vacuum would help pick up more dust. Got CT to price match another store and used my reward points to make the cost a little less painful. The blade that came with the saw is alright but I will get a Freud blade once I am done the flooring project as the material is hard on blades anyway. Positive stops are really nice. Blade change could be a little bit easier and actually had to look on YouTube to find the 2nd hidden screw because the manual does not show the location. You have to pull the saw down about 1/2 way and it gives you access to the screw. The safety switch is nicely designed and naturally engages when you are ready to make a cut. Lots of power and you can feel the saw kick up a bit when you press the trigger. The saw is fairly heavy but the handles make it easy to carry and after all it is a large saw so I would expect it to be fairly hefty.
