Really good! Does exactly what you want and pretty light weight to do the job for longer periods of time

The planer blades were not parallel to the footplate so at the zero setting the planer cut a shallow wedge shaped gouge into the test piece of wood. I had to get a repairer to adjust the baldes and change the footplate so the planer didn't cut on zero. This was the second DC580 as the first one displayed exactly the same fault and I had to return it to the supplier.

While it does only plane up to 2mm in depth, it can comfortably do that without burning out the motor. It is a very strong and reliable planer.
I bought this tool in February 2022, so I’ve had a few months to get a feel for it. It wasn’t so long ago that I bought a corded Makita planer, which a friend recommended, saying that they were superior because they take the standard 82 mm reversible tungsten carbide tipped blades, whereas cordless planers I would otherwise buy, don’t. I later discovered this wasn’t true, and because planers are pretty annoying to use with a cord, I decided to buy the DeWalt cordless model. I should’ve bought it to start with.I’ve mostly used the planer with hardwood and I’ve been very pleased with its performance. The thing that surprised me the most is how much quieter it is than my corded Makita. I still use earmuffs with it, but it’s probably not necessary. The thing that surprised me the most is how much quieter it is than my corded Makita. I still use earmuffs with it, but it’s probably not necessary. I find it to be quite light, comfortable to hold and easy to use. Its maximum cutting depth of 2 mm is slightly less than my Makita’s 2.5 mm, but that’s fine. Run-time is good - I guess it helps that it’s an 18V tool rather than 54V. Yet it still seems to have plenty of power. So far, I can’t fault this tool.
Constantly clogs and has had issues since I purchased it
