A great mower for doing the nature strip and not much else.

Why would I pay more than half the price of the mower to only get back a sub-par mowing experience and a good possibility of a repeat failure? I am currently looking at wiring up my own controller and battery system but this is hardly a satisfactory solution.I DO NOT RECOMMEND

I have a lot of other dewalt tools and batteries so can’t relate to people saying poor battery time. From what’s I have timed I get 18-20 minutes depending on the temperature of the day and length of lawn from the 5AH batteries this comes with. If 18-20 minutes isn’t enough to mow your lawn the cheapest option is buy a second charger and then both batteries will charge up ready for use in about 1 hour. If you don’t already have any other dewalt gear I would recommend buying the started kit with the 6ah or 9ah batteries and a fast charger or dual bay charger if your lawn takes longer to mow. I use 12ah batteries and get about 45-50 minutes which is plenty to mow my 800m2+ of lawn then use the same batteries on my dewalt line trimmer to do the edges and 54V dewalt ... MoreI have a lot of other dewalt tools and batteries so can’t relate to people saying poor battery time. Gets the job done but lacks power and run-time

I bought this lawn mower in March 2021 because I have an aversion to the unnecessary burning of petrol. I also already had a bunch of DeWalt tools (and batteries). We were moving to a country property with plenty of lawn to mow, and I wanted to use it instead of the capable but petrol-powered Deutscher slasher that we already had on the property. The mower does the job, and I do indeed mow the whole lawn with it, but it didn’t meet the high standard I’ve come to expect for DeWalt tools. Its main drawbacks are a lack of power/torque and run-time. It’s also not cheap, which I wouldn’t mind if it had the equivalently high performance - but unfortunately, it doesn’t.I don’t even bother running it on my 5 Ah batteries because they achieve such poor run-time and power. ... MoreI bought this lawn mower in March 2021 because I have an aversion to the unnecessary burning of petrol. It performs better on the Flexvolt 6 Ah batteries (which mine came with), though it doesn’t hesitate to cut the motor as soon as it hits any moderate length of grass at any moderate sort of speed. It performs moderately better with the 9 Ah batteries and substantially better with the 12 Ah batteries. For this reason I generally use it with my 12 Ah batteries, because it cuts out less and run-time is decent. I’ve only got two 12 Ah batteries though, so I usually mow the lawn in blocks, rotating over days or weeks, so that I can recharge the 12 Ah batteries and run it only on those.I was initially reluctant to buy this mower because I wanted a higher-powered one running at 54V and was hoping DeWalt would soon release one. However when I called DeWalt to ask about it, I was told no such mower was on the cards, and that this mower was actually well-rated by customers. Having used it though, I think a 54V version is indeed needed, though I presume it’d have to run with the larger batteries to achieve reasonable runtime (12 Ah or 15 Ah). Or maybe running two 54V batteries in series to provide 108V would be the way to go? I hope the engineers are working on it.I don’t use my mower with a catcher as I like to leave the cut grass on the lawn to compost down. However, leaving the catcher off means the rear flap stays down and the cut grass can’t escape easily through the rear hatch, even though the flap is shaped in a way that can’t be fully closed. This tends to clog up the hatch and blades and stop them from turning. I’ve therefore had to improvise with a stick and string to hold the flap up at 45 degrees and allow the cut grass to freely escape through the rear hatch. Even then though, it doesn’t take much for the grass to clog up the rear hatch. My mower also broke down after not a lot of use, which was disappointing. I was mowing the lawn as per normal, and the motor cut out upon hitting a moderately sized tuft of grass (also normal), yet it wouldn’t start again (not normal). I tried swapping the batteries over, putting in freshly charged batteries, unplugging and replugging the key, etc, but nothing I tried enabled it to restart. I had to return it under warranty to Sydney Tools where I bought it.I had to wait 2-3 months to get it back, from memory, which was rather inconvenient, and the Deutscher was put back to work. Allegedly they fixed the fault, then tested it, but upon testing the drive-belt gave up. This surprised me, given I’d only used the mower a handful of times, and it didn’t inspire confidence in the mower's robustness. And it meant I had to wait longer for DeWalt to get the parts in and repair it. I also enquired a few times as to what the original fault was, and was promised a call back (Sydney Tools had to call DeWalt to find out), but I never received the call back. There are some things I like about the mower. The main body is made of steel, which should make it more durable than plastic, though this comes at the cost of extra weight. It’s also pretty quick and easy to fold up the handle, and has a couple of handles, so it’s quite transportable, albeit fairly heavy at 26 kg. I notice that other reviewers have criticised it’s manoeuvrability, though I find it okay. It’s easy to change the cutting height, and the available heights are okay (I usually cut on level 2 or 3). And of course you’ve got the usual advantages over a petrol tool: no fossil fuel consumption, no fumes, no greenhouse gas emissions, quieter operation, easier start.Overall, I’m glad I have a tool that enables me to mow our large lawn without burning fossil fuels, but I’m a little disappointed with the mower's performance. I’m not sure I can recommend it. I hope DeWalt will develop an improved model.

Good quality and adequate run time
24 October 2022

Have had mine since 2017. Someone I know was put off by the reviews on here complaining about the run time. I personally threw two 5ah batteries in it today and ran it on my lawn which took 18 minutes and I still had 2/3 bars on the batteries then checked with a multi meter and it was bang on 50% charge. This is also with the mulch plate in and 2 weeks of lawn growth. Didn’t once struggle to cut the grass and left no clumps on the lawn as the mulching ability of this mower is great and help keep the lawn healthy. By my math if I can get 18 minutes on 50% charge then you can get 36 minutes on the 5ah batteries that are now 5 years old according to the date stamped on the batteries. Without the mulch plate in I’m sure you could get closer to 40 minutes of mowing good ... MoreHave had mine since 2017. Without the mulch plate in I’m sure you could get closer to 40 minutes of mowing good clean grass with nice sharp blades. If I was recommending this to someone I would advise getting a second charger or two more/bigger batteries as I typically use 9ah batteries in there as that my most common battery and my 5ah and smaller are normally with the smaller power tools. I saw some comments of batteries overheating and if it was a hot summers day I could see that being an issue with the 5ah batteries as it doesn’t have any active cooling for the batteries but the charger will just wait for the batteries to cool down and life goes on without any drama. I personally have never had one overhead in my mower, I have overheated a battery on my concrete saw cutting through thicker reinforced concrete than days it can going through 3 batteries without stopping and by the third the tool was heat soaked and then the battery shut off and wouldn’t charge for about 10 minutes till it cooled down but still works fine now.Long story short. This will be a good mower for anyone with a medium to small lawn (20-40 minutes of mow time) with the included batteries and charger. If bigger than that then I would say spend another $300 and get 2 more batteries or $400 and get 2 more and a second charger. If you already have more than 2 dewalt batteries then you will have no issues.

Great Mower great buy
24 October 2022

I have had mine for about 4 years now. Also have a lot of other dewalt tools and batteries so this fits in well with the dewalt blower, string trimmer, hedge trimmer and chainsaw. Would recommend getting a second charger or buying the started kit with the 54V batteries if your lawn takes more than 25 mins to mow as that’s about all these 5AH batteries give you. I use my 12ah batteries and get about 45 minutes which is more than enough to mow my 800m2 ish worth of lawn then use the same batteries on the trimmer to do the edges and blower to clean up off the hard surfaces.

Great without the catcher on, okay run time, seems more powerful and wider than comparable mowers I've seen

Owned for 6 months, reliable but probably wouldn't buy again. The grass catcher pickup is a problem, the entrance hole gets jammed up and the catcher only fills about half way before grass clippings start to be left on the ground. I bought 9ah batteries to suite our larger yard, they only just complete about 300sqm during summer when mowing weekly (average average growing lawn though). The poor grass pickup really slows the process down, works fantastic without the catcher and is able to take advantage of its powerful motor. Much more powerful and wider than a cheaper Ryobi one I've used. I probably wouldn't buy again even though I have all DeWalt cordless tools as I had to spend a lot buying large expensive batteries for it anyway, so investing in a whole new ... MoreOwned for 6 months, reliable but probably wouldn't buy again. It's a beast but it's power thirsty!

I bought this about a year ago and have used it frequently for the lawn in my 250sqm backyard. I'm a Dewalt fan and almost all of my cordless tools are Dewalt. The lawn mower is super powerful and not noisy at all. It has 5 height adjustment settings, although you would probably just use 1 and 2. The mulcher piece works great and the 480mm cutting capacity makes it easier and faster to cut the grass over a larger area. All that said, I have to say I'm a bit disappointed by the power consumption of this one. Even with two fully charged 5ah batteries, it struggles after 15 minutes and if you're not fast enough, you'll end up having to use another set of batteries (if you have them) or stop working, let the batteries cool down (they overheat, which is another annoying ... MoreI bought this about a year ago and have used it frequently for the lawn in my 250sqm backyard. Mows well, lasts the distance.Buy an extra charger
4 January 2020

Bought two weeks ago. 1/4 acre section with a lot of fruit trees to navigate. Two batteries:1 charger supplied with mower- not ideal as mower needs both batteries fully charged to start mowing and they take at LEAST 1.5 hours to fully charge. Fully charged after first mow, put away for a week, back on charger to make sure before next mow, still holding full charge. Excellent.Bought second charger. One battery runs down faster- not sure if this is just normal? Is the same one every time though.Easy to fold handle up/down,Easy to start, easy adjustments, mows nicely and lasts the distance on mulch and on throw out the back, though throw out seems to clog easily even with dry grass. Narrow gap out the back compared to petrol versions.Mower is way lighter than the ... MoreBought two weeks ago. 1/4 acre section with a lot of fruit trees to navigate. I’ll be interested to see how long the batteries stay adequate for the job, they’re fairlyexpensive to replace by the look. There’s a wee plastic key thingy inserted so it starts ,on a short lanyard- it’s small and (for me) maybe easily misplaced.....So far I’m happy with this mower. Supplying with a single charger seems illogical to me though. Value would be 5 star but for this fact

Very hard to push due to poor body design.
9 April 2023

Most literature online doesnt provide information on the cutting heights. 25mm is the lowest setting, which is not that low. Previous rotary mower could go down to 10mm, 4 increments would step back up to 25mm equivalent.Height aside the worst thing about this mower is the body design. The body is much lower than the blades and creates alot of resistance pushing through the grass. The blades is also held on with a very large nut.The low body and large nut combine to catch on the grass pulling up sections after you have cut and adding alot more resistance than necessary.

Yes, I like it.
7 March 2022

I have done my lawns twice. The mower is relatively very quiet and no mucking around with petrol and oil. Very easy start and light weight. It makes mowing so much easier than my old 4 stroke. It leaves my lawn looking almost like a putting green. One problem is battery life though. I do have six other DeWalt tools, that all use the 18 volt XR batteries. I therefore have a number of batteries and I do have to change them for fully charged ones about half way through. My lawn is aprox 300M².Yes I would recommend this product.
