I wanted to improve on the accuracy and finish on some new products i was working of for our on line shop and had been previously been using a 1/4" router from a far eastern supplier. I embarked on a search for a replacement and was already a DeWalt fan with a number of their products already in the workshop. The big attraction with this model is that it comes with 2 bases where many others don't, the fit finish and accuracy using either base it second to none, there is plenty of power and the LED's make a big difference. I have used the Dewalt router for several projects now and found it to be an extremely capable bit of kit.I have adapted the fixed base to make router table with dust extraction using the supplied attachment. The plunge base is excellent, light years ahead of the Dremel one I was using.I purchased an 8mm collet to expand the selection of bits that can be used.I highly recommend this router if you're looking for a quality well thought out tool.

As a devout Elu/Dewalt router user for most of my working life, this 2-in-1 router has been an interesting development. The main plunge router has all of the features that you are used to from a small 3/4" collet machine, although the plunging process has changed, which I'm still getting used to. The revelation for me was the trimming router. The transformation is quick & straight forward and I've found myself using the router in this set up more than in the more traditional plunge set up.

After many years using a heavy old 1/2” plunge router I decided to invest in this 1/4” DeWalt router and as soon as I started using it I regretted not buying it earlier. It is well made and is so light and easy to use. LED lights at the bottom of the motor unit let you see the cut more easily. Changing over bases is quick and easy as is changing the cutter. The fixed base has a D shaped sub-base, which provides excellent support when using the router on the edge of the work piece and the depth adjustment ring has 0.5mm graduations but it is easy to dial in to 0.25mm accuracy. The plunge base is also very easy to use. The locking lever has a strong spring which easily locks in the depth of cut and the depth adjustment rod has an adjustment knob at the bottom giving a ... The plunge base is also very easy to use. The locking lever has a strong spring which easily locks in the depth of cut and the depth adjustment rod has an adjustment knob at the bottom giving a very fine depth adjustment capability. Note that contrary to what it says in the description this router does come with a fence. In fact it has two - one for each base.I do love my new router but it isn’t without its faults…… The on/off is a rocker switch and it is easy to inadvertently switch it to ‘on’ when changing the cutter, so that when it is plugged back in the router motor starts. I now always double check it is in the ‘off’ position before plugging in. The dust collection attachments work fine when cutting away from the edge of the work piece but when using guided cutters on the edge of the work it is virtually useless - what’s needed is a dust attachment that fits under one side of the router base but this is not available as an accessory. I found that the plunge action can be a little jerky and had to apply some WD40 to the guide rods to give a smooth action.
So far this seems to be a well made tool, with features that have been well thought out. The quick release makes it very easy to switch between the plunge base and the smaller one. I love the adjustment collar you use with the smaller base, though maybe the instructions could have been clearer that it doesn't perform any function with the plunge base, you just need to crank it out of the way.The plunge base feels really nice to use, smooth and precise with no slop and the controls are easy and in the right place.
I haven't had a chance to really use and abuse this yet, but even in what testing I have done so far I can already tell it is miles better quality than my previous cheap router. The build quality is excellent all round and switching between the 2 bases is nice and simple, taking the fixed base depth adjustment collar on and off might seem a bit awkward at first but is dead easy once you've done it once or twice, that depth adjustment on the fixed base is a simple but very smart design that allows for easy micro adjustments. The plunge base has a nice smooth action with an easy to use depth stop, only minor criticism would be that the little sliding marker for the depth gauge doesn't line up properly with zero at the bottom, but I find myself using other methods to ... Dust collection is excellent, my old router had no dust collection attachment so inevitablely created a mass of sawdust whenever I used it, but I have been extremely impressed by how clean my work surface is after using this router hooked up to my dust vac. All in all I'm thoroughly impressed by this router, it's high quality, easy to use, and having both bases makes it extremely versatile
Very pleased. Bought this 3 months ago as my first router. Have milled pine, oak, and ABS successfully, using the finishing housing (the one without the handles). Great set with lots of options, fences etc. Feels great quality, and not found any design features that I don't like, although I'd like the stop switch to be easier to access (it's a toggle switch under rubber protective cover, could be larger and separate from the on switch. The height adjustment ring and skiboot clamp are really easy to use. There is some up-down play when the clamp is open, so need to set the depth with the router the right way up. Obviously routers are not to be messed with, so needed some practice and watching of (good) youtube tutorials. Also bought Axminster cutter set and 3M face ... MoreVery pleased. As (I assume) with all routers, dust extraction seems to stop debris flying out at you, and probably takes the fine dust away, but there is still a lot of mess.
Bought to replace the Makita equivalent in the same style. I've not used it in earnest but the quality and ergonomics feel much better. I love the large lever that unlocks the plunge function (it is spring loaded to lock). Much better than the fiddly lever that I could not get on with on the Makita. Only time will tell if it is as reliable.
A very well thought out tool, easy to change from fixed base to plunge setup and speed and height adjustment are similarly straight forward and reliable time after time. Probably the best 1/4" router available to me currently, I am very happy with it. I use the router for woodwork but also for milling 1/4" brass and aluminium plate using Wickes router bits, great results.
Thank you for your email.I am more than pleased with this router but I do find it a little top heavy. When it first arrived it was difficult to push the router into the fixed base but it has freed up a little now. Powerful enough for the projects that I do. Overall very satisfied.
