A really powerful planer with some good features

I chose this because my previous planer had failed twice after 18 months of light use so I was not prepared to risk a third failure since the manufacturer was not helpful. Toolstation did however refund the price so I upgraded to the more expensive De Walt machine. It has taken a little while to get used to because it is heavy (but I knew that). It gives a good finish and adjustment is simple. I like the chip collection system which is powerful and the bag is well filled and easy to empty since it has an internal spring which may be punched to compress it and the chips drop out. Disadvantages are weight, noise and vibration but nothing that can't be tolerated for a machine that is rarely used for more than a minute or two at a time. I wanted a precision tool to accurately cut some solid doors. I thought by buying top of the range I would have a planer which would perform to a high standard. Unfortunately when the planer was set to 0 it still cut the timber. I suspected the blades needed to be set but on closer inspection I found the front shoe was out of line with the rear. This misalignment caused the 'cut' to be concaved in shape, not flat. I returned the product for a refund.

Heavyweight planer that is very well made. Nicely aligned. This is the second I have bought. The first was badly calibrated but fortunately you can adjust them, via two small grub-screws on the blade holder. It's a pain to have to calibrate a new tool, but Makita are even worse. Guarantee you they won't be calibrated. Thanks to the two blades it's a very smooth feeling plane. The dust collection bag is excellent and being able to place it on either side of the plane is a life saver. You don't want to operate this thing without dust collection! It seems expensive but when you compare it to it's smaller brother, it's really not. It is easier to calibrate, significantly more powerful, and comes with dust collection and a case ( not Tstak ). Those last two items will ... MoreHeavyweight planer that is very well made. All that taken in to consideration and suddenly this plane starts to look like really good value. It is heavy but that also adds to the stability which is a big plus. It does feel very stable. I checked the plates and they are very well aligned.I never rebate using a plane but I had a look and you can rebate with it.Blade changes are easy with this type of holding system. Even easier than the smaller brother. At the moment these are a really good deal at Screwfix. BUY ONE!!

Great quality tool
3 April 2023

This is the first planer I've owned and used. Its only used for DIY and its great. Nice weight to it and very comfortable to hold. Good cable length and decent case. The cut depth is very simple to adjust and the chamfer grooves are nice extra. The dust bag is very good but does fill up quickly. Only did one pass at 4mm and it does it with ease. Cant say how easy or hard it is to change the blades yet. A bit pricey but money well spent.

Great service & product

I needed to plan the bottom of about 25 oak doors to clear carpet in a new build property - Tried my cheap and cheerful electric plane but it really struggled with even a very thin cut so decided to buy a new good quality plane.Read the reviews first and went for the Dewalt as all of my other power tools are Dewalt and the reviews rated this product, also best price at Screwfix. When I collected from my local branch, I was served by a really helpful guy who pointed out that there is an extended warranty (standard is one year) if you register online within a certain timeframe. This extends to three years (well worth it).Having used the plane to do about half the doors I am very pleased with its performance, the dust collection bag is a generous size and save ... MoreI needed to plan the bottom of about 25 oak doors to clear carpet in a new build property - Tried my cheap and cheerful electric plane but it really struggled with even a very thin cut so decided to buy a new good quality plane.Read the reviews first and went for the Dewalt as all of my other power tools are Dewalt and the reviews rated this product, also best price at Screwfix. When I collected from my local branch, I was served by a really helpful guy who pointed out that there is an extended warranty (standard is one year) if you register online within a certain timeframe. Have not tried anything else yet but have high expectations that this tool will serve me well.Calibration was spot on out of the box. Its a shame it does not come with a spare blade set as I am fairly confident that the blades will loose their edge when using with oak.

It planes well and true but is heavy and cumbersome

This planet is heavy duty and planes well and true. However its very cumbersome. As a carpenter/joiner I feel the need to have a light duty one also for the smaller jobs.

Superb planer
10 March 2020

Bought this planer to take on a larger work load. Very sturdy and easy to handle. I've had a few planers but this one really is the best compared to a makita/Bosch. This tool even comes with a dust bag making it even easier to use inside customers houses. No hesitation needed when buying this tool as it does everything you need it to. (Dewalt quality)

This planer was not my first choice, I originally was going to get the makita. But having acquired this planer i would say i was more than happy with it. It is slightly heavier than other planers, this makes it slightly harder to use one handed on its side. Another slight point is that you cannot turn it from 0mm to 4mm in one go like you can on the makita, making it harder to progressively plane more or less of a work piece in one go.

Very nice planer but......
14 March 2018

The DW26500K planer is a professional tool but unfortunately the one I was supplied had a factory defect and had to be returned. The problem was apparent when a straight edge was put across the fixed shoe and the front adjustment shoe which provides the depth of cut, the adjustment shoe was mot parallel with the fixed shoe and was out of true by 1.5mm from front to back which means that the plane would cut when set to zero. Very disappointed by this and it appears Dewalt have a production problem with some units so would advise anyone buying this machine to do the above check
