I recently bought this product having put off buying one for years. A great purchase that is saving me no end of time cutting timber accurately and squarely. For ripping timber it’s a game changer. I wish I had bought it years ago.

Circular Saw Puzzle.

This turned up in the post, and upon opening it I found out that the blade wasn't actually on the saw, but packed away separately. Whether this has some weird health and safety connotation, or whether it's packed like this to make it look like you're getting more for your money I am unsure, but I had never owned a circular saw before, and it took a fair bit of figuring out to get the blade in place so that I could use it. Nothing in the instructions was of much use, and I think that Dewalt might be assuming that anyone who buys a circular saw will be au-fait with the mechanics involved in puttting one together. Anyhow, once I'd got the blade on, everything was pretty straightforward and I have cut some wood without any major hassle. I'd advise Dewalt to include more than one type of blade thickness if they're going to pack them separately, as the teeth on the saw as it came are too rough for some of the more delicate cutting I have to do. I live on the Isle of Sheppey, so getting the right type of blade will involve a trip to Homebase in Sittingbourne, as I'd have no idea whatsoever about what type of blade I actrually need. This journey is a round trip of 30 miles, and it was because I didn't want to do that trip in the first place that I bought this saw on line! The saw is wellbuilt, and it looks like it's a bargain for the price, but as I've already made clear, I know nothing much at all about circular saws.

First circular saw

First purchase of a circular saw. Recommended for lifting of tongue & groove floorboards. Chose this one after research mainly re product reviews as didn't know whether to go budget or high end. Took a bit to understand the instructions(because I'm stupid I guess), but I am very happy with the operational use. Not had experience of other circular saws, but I am happy with my choice so far.

Great purchase, solid, sturdy, accurate, value.
19 July 2021

My first circular saw, so I have nothing to compare with. But I bought this to cut through new solid oak sleepers, 200x100. Needed 2 cuts obviously, as max depth at 90deg is 65mm, but it was accurate and easy to control. I cut some angles too, the slide adjustments were accurate, for angles and for depth. Cant think of any problems I had. When you have finished the cut, wait for the blade to stop rotating but that was no hardship. Very nice smooth cut, and went through the oak very easily. Don't forget your ear plugs, safety glasses, dust mask. And dont forget to slide the adjusters back to zero when you've finished or you wont be able to close the very nice case it comes in. Very pleased with the purchase, solid, sturdy, accurate, good value.

Hot knife through butter
12 August 2021

At the risk of antagonising H&S I fitted a 185mm HSS blade as I wasn't certain that the supplied blade would be suitable for cutting steel. I couldn't see that an extra half mil on the radius was going to cause a problem and so it proved. This proceeded to slice through steel roofing sheets like the proverbial hot knife through butter. It was really easy to steer too.I'm dropping one star simply because the depth cut adjustment is extremely stiff, almost unmovable. I'm hoping this will free up with use. The angle of cut adjustment is stiff too but not nearly as bad.

It does the job!

It's a nice tool. Cuts wood easily and cleanly straight out the box. Depth is variable from basically nothing up to about 60mm or so. I am mainly cutting floorboard lengths at the moment and it's very nice for this. Cuts can be tilted, although I haven't needed that yet. Nice and powerful with being corded. Shame it didn't come with a case, so it sits in the cardboard box at the moment. Also have not tried attaching the exhaust yet to the vacuum, as was mainly cutting outside on the long lengths, but that is possible. Now I'm wanting to buy a track for keeping long cuts on a specific line...

OK, but poor blade.

I have had this saw for a while, mainly used for cutting sheet ply/MDF and framing timbers, so nothing hard going. It has been reliable. It has a reasonably powerful motor which unlike previous reviewers I find it quite noisy. The features are pretty basic as you would expect for an entry level DeWalt, and the components materials are average (e.g. base plate, adjusting mechanisms, etc.).You need to check blade angle prior to cutting as it does have a habit of going out of true quickly, probably due to the lower quality component parts. For me the blade that it came with let it down. Like others have said its has a 16mm bore rather than 20mm, however I found the coating they used resulted in pitch building up really quickly. Superb bit of kit
2 August 2024

I got this last month to construct new floorboards in an old house. I considered the cordless version because I already have the batteries for other accessories but decided to go with the extra weight and cutting depth of this model. I am delighted with my choice! It cuts through 18mm hard ply like it's nothing and 50mm timbers get equally short shrift. It's very straightforward to use and the 48-degree bevel facility was wonderful for constructing step-risers. A fantastic piece of kit and I should have had one years ago. I immediately ordered a spare disc and one with more teeth for finer joinery in the future. (My only advice to new-buyers other than "do it!" is to read thee instructions before attaching the disc. The brake need to be applied in order for the ... MoreI got this last month to construct new floorboards in an old house. This saw is great. 1 very minor point I’d change
12 April 2021

This saw is great. Really powerful, really accurate cuts and its versatility is good.I have a few saws, another being a Dewalt 18v cordless. Yes it’s convenient and pretty light, but it has its limitations. If you have a power source, this will eat through cuts all day long and I think I’ll find myself using this much more often than the cordless. If I had to provide any critical feedback (and there really isn’t any so far) it would be that the cut out for your line could be designed a little differently so you can line up a bit easier, but that’s stretching things a bit and in reality, it’s fine!I bought this through Toolstation specifically because it came with a case. Other stores stock the same saw, cheaper, but with no case.

Very powerful for the price
6 February 2021

I've got a cordless 18v circular saw, but it never has the torque for anything other than sheets of osb, and I was starting a job where I knew I would be cutting wet timber down.I was going to buy a cheap saw, but for a small amount extra could get a respected brand like DeWalt so it was a no brainer. The saw feels solid and eats through wet structual timber, even cutting along the grain, with no drop in performance or cutting out like cordless. The best feature I feel is a simple but effective shoe that fits around the cable coming out the tool, which directs the slack cable away from the blade. Can't fault it and wished I had bought it sooner, as have previously burned out 18v batteries trying to use a cordless tool on jobs too tough.
