I purchased this Dewalt DW089K laser unit a few years ago and I can say that this is one of the most useful purchases I have made where it comes to tools. This laser has never let me down. I have used it to line up kitchen cabinets, ceramic tiles, shelves, pictures, and even micro LED ceiling pot lights. I use it mainly indoors and the red color is great for my uses. Next I plan on using it to install some wall trim in some areas of my house.I also like that it uses AA batteries, which means that the unit will either become obsolete or breakdown in time before I every worry that proprietary batteries would become obsolete and become hard to find years down the road. I've only used this laser once. I'm looking forward to using it a bunch when I start building a house in the spring. I used it at work to evaluate a hoistway for a wheelchair lift. It made that job much easier. I bought a detector to use with this unit so I can use it outside on forms and plumbing etc. I wish Dewalt would have thought to put a place in the otherwise great case for the detector. otherwise, it looks like a winner

I own 3 of these and install medical equipment where tolerances are very precise. I have used them on construction sites for about 3 years now. They have held up fine. I use them to find perfect alignment when I don't have a wall or anything else to pull a measurement from.I have don a few things to make them more survivable. I got a heavy duty, padded case that is used for photo equipment where they reside when I'm traveling and storing. That case ran about $160.00. I also went to rechargeable AA batteries because I will turn them on and leave them on all day.These use the red laser diode so they do wash out in sunlight.

Durable self leveling lazer with 2 vertical beams and 1 horizontal beam. This lazer makes layout of 90 degree plumb lines easy from floor to ceiling as well as a horizontal level line if required. Strong magnets on lazer housing supports it on metal building structure, piping or anything that is ferrous. I have used this model lazer for years for installation of mechanical equipment and carpentry and consider it a must have in the tool box.
I am a contractor and I picked up one of these about 5 or 6 years ago and it has become a very often used tool in my arsenal of tools. I used it when I built my own home and everything is dead straight. Makes it easy for installing device/switch/receptical boxes and I know everyone is dead lined up with the others. Makes is easy for more jobs than I feel like listing. I like how it comes in its own case. If I could knock it in any way I wish the laser light was brighter. It is harder to see in full bright light. I took it out in the evening to measure the slope of my lawn and it worked good to even measure 800 feet plus.

The first few times I tried using the laser, the lines were very faint, the laser barely noticeable both inside and outside. Each time the line became more and more difficult to see. Stay tuned as I will update how it goes. At this time I will not recommend this product, I feel for the amount spent it should run like a top. However if the support is solid I will change my review as I also feel tools can have faults.
Was happy with the laser when it was working. Unfortunately l can't speak to the longevity of the unit. I used it 5 or 6 times over the past 2 years,.then the unit just stopped working. No drops, misuse etc. Warranty is only good for 1 year.... they say 3 years "limited warranty for manufacturing defects", but supposedly when the unit just stops working after 5 or 6 uses, it isn't a manufacturing defect?? Paid close to 400 dollars for this unit.Really disappointed in dewalt's quality over the past few years, l have purchased many of their products, but quality seems to be going downhill on some of their priducts.
This is my first time using a laser level on this level. I can't believe that I have been in business this long without owning one. Of course the ones years ago are nothing like this. I looked at the Bosch, but I am a DeWalt man and choose this one. It took me a little while to get the hang of it, but once I did it helped me in a remodel job like you wouldn't believe. My only complaint is the third laser grid line (not the horizontal or vertical) doesn't have an opening in the housing on the one side, so the beam will not show on that side. So, I just moved the laser over so that I could get more of the third laser grid to lay out stud placement for the top plate of a wall on the ceiling. I also bought the Dewalt tripod. My only complaint about mounting the laser on ... MoreThis is my first time using a laser level on this level. I can't believe that I have been in business this long without owning one. I put the laser out away from the tripod so that the third laser grid was not blocked. The thread on the laser and tripod was 1/4" course thread. I had bought the Bosch tripod first, but it blocked the laser even worse and I returned it.

I measured 36 feet level with perfect accuracy - measure point A to point B, then take the laser to point B, turn 180 degrees and check height of point A. Zero error detected here.Similarly, in checking calibration of the two (90* apart) vertical lines, I hung a plumb bob with a very thin line (dental floss) from a high ceiling. Due to gravity and the simplicity of a plumb bob, the string was perfectly vertical. this is one of the best laser levels I've owned!I used to have a single axis laser level, but I purchased this model due to the tri-axis lasers. I also purchased the DeWalt DE0892-XJ Line Laser Detector with this.So far I've completed several jobs including a garden fence, decking installation, tiling and a partition wall. This laser does everything id require from a laser and would recommend it to anyone who has more than the odd job on. This will not only save you a bunch of time, but the end result will be accurate and something to be proud of.The laser comes with batteries, has a strong blow moulded carry case, good instructions and a bracket for mounting to stud work or a floor to ceiling pole.
