Diamondback bike's have a good reputation for being great quality strength & light weight bikes. However the bearings in the back wheel hub and crank are weak and temperamental. Also not the best bike for anyone wanting to do tricks like bar spins and so forth as the bike does not have a gyroscope braking system. However the head bolt for the neck to hold the front wheel and forks straight is also a poor design that needs regular attention & tightening, Although for price and quality it's a good cheap alternative for those that can't afford high end price's. A few modifications and it has plenty of potential.

I got this bike around 7 months ago. When I got it, everything worked fine and it was a nice bike. A few months later, i decide to upgrade the handlebars and grips, and buy new pedals. This bike worked nicely. HOWEVER, around 2 months ago, there was a slight clunky noise coming from the rear hub. I didn’t suspect anything. After riding it more, there was a TERRIBLE and sudden loud grinding noise coming from the rear hub each time i would coast and stop pedaling. Upon investigation, i found that a few of the bearings in the cassette driver had completely fallen out and were loose in the rear hub. Got a new bike that is worth 4 times more than this. I guess it is a $200 dollar bike, so i don’t expect anything better. Don’t get this bike if you want a bike that will last.

Bumpy start

We ordered online and it came very fast. But the back inner tube was punctured. We had to take the wheel off. Big w store replaces the tube for free but we had to reassemble it all again. The box only came with one allenkey/screwdriver. There are two smaller Allen bolts which you need your own allenkey for. None that we had at home fitted. This made setting it up challenging. It it's a super sturdy bike and I think will be good. We've upgraded from the smaller diamondback for my son. We were very happy with that one. It lasted really well. This bike is much bigger and heavier than the other smaller model. It's a big adjustment for him. It makes me wonder if we'd have been better with the same model rather than the bmx. But none the less my son loves it and I'm ... MoreWe ordered online and it came very fast. Go to a bike shop
13 May 2019

I bought this a few weeks ago, an having problems with crank.. sounds like my chain is going to come off. That's what you get when buying bike from big W, Kmart or any place like this.. I recommend going to a bike shop for best quality.

The brakes on this bike are really good because if you need to stop quickly it stops very efficiently! So

Pay for what you get
6 January 2018

This bike worked fine for about a month. A clunking noise started to come from the crank and bottom bracket area. Took it to the bike shop and was advised the bottom bracket was dry as a bone with no grease. This shouldn't be the case on a new bike. Advised should get at least 3 years of grease in BB. Purchased grease and removed entire BB and even now there's a slight creak. Will buy aftermarket bottom bracket and crank worth more than the bike. Pay for what you get. Sprocket is also cheap with signs of chain tension. This is all from straight riding no tricks or jumps.

Very Disappointed

We purchased this bike for Christmas for our 30kg 10yr old son.Approx 6 months later (he hardly rides the bike as he prefers his scooter) he came home from school saying the pedal keeps skipping, upon investigation (I'm a fully qualified mechanic) I found the rear hub drive assembly had failed, I went to a bicycle shop and tried to buy a replacement hub assembly however I was told they've never seen this type of design and advised to go back to place of purchase.Upon going back to Big W we were told by the friendly staff that the bike was still under warranty and to bring the complete bike in with the receipt to which we did (we live 200klm from Big W) however I just received a phone call from the store advising that the failed part is not covered under the ... MoreWe purchased this bike for Christmas for our 30kg 10yr old son.Approx 6 months later (he hardly rides the bike as he prefers his scooter) he came home from school saying the pedal keeps skipping, upon investigation (I'm a fully qualified mechanic) I found the rear hub drive assembly had failed, I went to a bicycle shop and tried to buy a replacement hub assembly however I was told they've never seen this type of design and advised to go back to place of purchase.Upon going back to Big W we were told by the friendly staff that the bike was still under warranty and to bring the complete bike in with the receipt to which we did (we live 200klm from Big W) however I just received a phone call from the store advising that the failed part is not covered under the warranty as damage occurred from 'jumping' the bike. I have no doubt my son would jump off gutters and such as I actually thought that a BMX with stunt pegs would be fit for purpose. My son is only 30kg, he is a very small light child. To say I'm shocked is an understatement.I then asked if we could order the part but was advised to go to a bicycle shop and order the part, after explaining that the bicycle shop advised to go back to the place we bought it from the friendly staff member advised she would call Diamond Back and see if she can get the part and the approx price. Not Good enough Big W.
