I was an early adopter of the original Mavic Mini in 2019. At the time, having just sold my Phantom 3, I was completely floored with how much DJI was able to do with a drone weighing less than 250g (assuming no modifications). I absolutely loved that drone and took it with me almost every time I traveled. Fast forward three generations, and the Mavic Mini 4 Pro is an even more capable sub 250g (with regular intelligent flight battery installed) drone. I always fly within VLOS, but noticed that under bridges or near trees the video feed to the controller/ my phone would cut out. Luckily RTH would kick in and I would easily regain control of the drone once the video feed was restored. With the RC2 controller and O4 video transmission system, this issue is a thing of the past. The Mavic Mini 4 Pro boasts a flight distance of up to 20 km (~12.4 miles). I am able to fly from inside my home in a medium to strong interference suburban landscape with no control or video transmission issues. Color me impressed. Speaking of the RC2 controller, it’s a must have. One thing that deterred me from pulling out my Mavic Mini at times was the need to attach my phone to the controller, launch the app, and wait for it to connect before flying. The RC2’s built-in screen makes it so convenient to whip the drone out for a quick photo or video anywhere.The next item on my wishlist was intelligent flight modes. If you’ve ever tried, you know it is difficult to get stable, quality video while flying manually, especially if you are the subject and riding a bike, driving, etc. The Mavic Mini 4 has features such as ActiveTrack 360, waypoints, night mode, and cruise control that allow you to get super smooth video, most notably when you are simultaneously the pilot and subject.This leads perfectly into the next and final wish list item, that being obstacle avoidance. On multiple occasions with my Mavic Mini, I did crash due to an inability to juggle both piloting the drone and focusing on getting a good photo or video. I also let a friend try flying it and he slammed into his dad’s car, putting a good dent in it. Luckily, the Mavic Mini got right back up and kept going like nothing had happened. Resilience after crashing is definitely something these drones have going for them. The 360 degree obstacle avoidance from the Mavic Mini 4 Pro’s omnidirectional binocular vision system provides a safety blanket to prevent crashes, property damage, or injury. It makes the intelligent flight modes more practical as the drone will automatically be looking out for obstacles and either stop or maneuver around them based on your preference. Of course, there are limitations to this system as it is disabled in sport mode, at night, and struggles with smaller objects like tree branches.With the Mavic Mini 4 Pro’s mix of portability and features, it does everything that I want and need from a recreational drone. At this price point, I think it’s an excellent value as it includes features only previously seen on higher end UAVs. Of course, if you’re looking for the absolute best in photo or video quality, you’ll probably want to consider other DJI drones instead.One final thing to note if you’re purchasing this bundle. The intelligent flight plus batteries do bring the takeoff weight of the Mavic Mini 4 Pro above 250g. This does mean that you need to register your drone with the FAA and pass The Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST). This only costs $5 (at the time of this review) for a three year registration and takes a total of about 30 minutes of your time, but it is important in the event you do ever get questioned while flying.

We’ve been wanting a drone to try out and see how they’ve improved over the years as we have had a few older “helicopter” types and some early quad copters, those were never that great, when we saw that DJI came out with the new Mini 4 Pro we had to give it a try.Unboxing:The nicely DJI logoed box is a lot smaller than I expected and upon opening you’ll see a soft sided carrying case with everything packed neatly inside. During my reading on FCC rules, it states that any drone under 250g did not have to be registered, but, since this came with the extended range batteries, I decided to weigh it with the battery installed and it came in at 293g “SD card also installed”, so just to be on the safe side I went ahead and paid the $5 registration fee and registered the device with them. I also took their “TRUST” certification course, which is very easy and doesn’t take long to complete.Setting up:The first thing we did was to plug in the battery charging dock and put all the batteries in it, then plug in the controller to charge with one of our phone charging cables. I also proceeded to watch some of the setting up videos from the DJI Fly app available on the Play store “Android phones here”, and those I highly recommend watching if you haven’t flown a drone in a while or haven’t flown a DJI device at all.Now we proceeded to turn on the remote control, and this has a nice large touch screen that’s very clear, bright and easy to read. It’s about the same as using an android smart phone “more like a small tablet” and has about the same drop down as our tablets do for getting into the settings. The first thing it did was have us set up an account and get registered with DJI. It also had a firmware update that was done right away and we suggest doing that and not wait. There’s also a care package you can purchase that covers lost or damaged drone replacement. The plan gives you very reduced pricing on a replacement drone “2x a year” or repair service at a small fee with fast 3 day turn around. I would highly recommend getting this as I can see needing this service especially if you’ve never flown a drone before. My only issue is that you must purchase this plan within 48hrs of activation, that’s not much time to decide but we see it as worthwhile right from the get go.After setting up the remote, then we installed the freshly charged battery and turned on the drone by tapping the power button once then pressing for two seconds and releasing, “this is a safety feature so it doesn’t get turned on/off by accident, the same action is required for turning on the controller”. The remote paired with the drone and that’s when the activation stuff happens, the drone also had a firmware update you need to do that before going further.There are tons of settings for this drone, from camera to flight systems and you’ll want to make yourself familiar with everything before flying. The obstacle avoidance is one of the first things you need to “or should” change from stopping to avoiding so that the drone will fly around an obstacle instead of just flat stopping and going nowhere, this sort of confused me at first as I thought it was going to fly around an obstacle but instead just stopped. You also want to make sure the return to home is on so that way if anything does happen out of your control the drone can simply return to spot it took off from.Flying:This is one of the simplest drones I’ve ever flown. I hadn’t flown much of anything in a few years other than some mini drones or helicopters in the years past and things sure have changed. Once you’ve powered everything up and ready to fly just simply press the takeoff symbol and the drone will take off and hover about 3’ up. It’s amazingly quieter than some of the other’s I’ve flown and is so steady it’s amazing.What I found was if you put the switch in the top middle of the controller to “C” for Cinematic that slows down some of the actions of the controller for smooth shooting of videos, but this also keeps the controls from being so sensitive till you can get the feel of how it flies. Using “S” for Sport really amps up the controls and speeds, not using that till we are more used to flying and are comfortable with the higher speeds.It's been pretty windy here in the NW Phoenix area the last few days and I’m really impressed with the drone’s ability to keeps itself positioned with very little drift “as long as it’s not gusting”. I’m trying to fly when the winds are calmer but according to DJI it’s rated for up to 10mps or around 25mph wind resistance “that quite a bit for such a small drone”Now for shooting video and pictures, this is simply an amazing camera platform. The gimble allows you to rotate the camera vertically from around 90 degrees straight down to 60 degrees up from horizontal if you want to shoot up at something no problem “like looking up into a tree”. The quality of the 4k video is just outstanding, it can easily make someone look like a professional videographer with ease. There are so many options for programming in flight patterns and what you want the camera to do a book could easily be written on how to do everything and a lot of hands-on practice flying is going to go a long way. We’ve found some very good instructional videos on DJIs website and others on YouTube that really helped explain a lot of just what can be done. The camera gimble also lets you switch from Landscape to Portrait mode instantly with a simple tap on the controller’s screen.Conclusion:The drone is simply incredible, it’s small, lightweight, super easy to fly “after a little practice” and the video / picture quality is outstanding. The battery life with the batteries included in the Fly More kit easily last around 40 min which is plenty to get a lot of footage, and since there are 3 you can fly a long time.The RC 2 controller is really nice, it’s a huge upgrade from any of the ones we’ve used that has you dock your smart phone with it. Everything is built into the controller so there’s no need to add anything other than setting it up and registering the drone with the controller. The screen is large and amazingly clear, and is supposed to have about a 12mile “20km” line of sight range which is truly amazing. When setting it up you do have to attach the control sticks to the gimbals, they are underneath tucked in their own storage spots. I also added a SD card to the controller so that I could store screen captures there and mapping data.If you are in the market for a drone, doesn’t matter if you are new or experienced we think the new Mini 4 Pro from DJI will fit your needs perfectly.

I was hoping I didn't get lost in a weird clunky app or some language translation that took a while to decipher. None of that is the case here it is easy to understand and follow and is effort free to use. I am surprised at how far this drone goes and never loses a signal or even loses bars of strength. Overall I was worried I would get another clunky drone that required some elaborate calibration each time I turned it on and instead this is power up and play. I really like how agile it is and quick to respond. Also, I like that it has sensors built in that warn you as you are getting close to objects. It did take a couple of minutes trying to figure out how to land and take off and I admit I needed some Google time to look for videos from other users showing me what I was doing wrong.Drawbacks are really just the included battery charger as it charges one battery at a time in series even though all can be plugged in at the same time. I know you can get better chargers but for the price of this drone it should really include all you need. If that is the only drawback though then it is a true winner which it is.It would be cool if DJI created some sort of chart that shows each customer what additional requirements or accessories are needed or even useful depending on exactly which drone they buy. If that chart included links to get FAA Certified according to what you plan to do along with additional requirements like the link to the TRUST certificate and even if you have all that maybe suggestions for accessories like some sort of light that your drone emits that can be seen over 3 miles which is also an FAA requirement for flying at night. I had no idea until today about this last requirement. That is an additional purchase but if everything was spelled out in an easy to understand format for customers it would make it more simple and effortless to purchase the correct drone. That being said, this drone is amazing, the camera takes incredibly clear photos and videos, just make sure the memory stick you purchase is high speed or the controller will use it but send you a warning your memory card is too slow.Would I buy the Mini 4 PRO again? Definitely

Once removed and opened, inside the case was the drone itself, the RC 2 controller, 3 extra range batteries, a 3-bay charger, camera/gimble protector, blade protector, two USB cords “one USB C to C, and one USB A to C, 3 sets of blades “also include screws”, a small screw driver, and user manual.I was really surprised at just how light this little drone is, its weight for the size is pretty amazing. During my reading on FCC rules, it states that any drone under 250g did not have to be registered, but, since this came with the extended range batteries, I decided to weigh it with the battery installed and it came in at 293g “SD card also installed”, so just to be on the safe side I went ahead and paid the $5 registration fee and registered the device with them. I also took their “TRUST” certification course, which is very easy and doesn’t take long to complete.Setting up:The first thing we did was to plug in the battery charging dock and put all the batteries in it, then plug in the controller to charge with one of our phone charging cables. I also proceeded to watch some of the setting up videos from the DJI Fly app available on the Play store “Android phones here”, and those I highly recommend watching if you haven’t flown a drone in a while or haven’t flown a DJI device at all.Now we proceeded to turn on the remote control, and this has a nice large touch screen that’s very clear, bright and easy to read. It’s about the same as using an android smart phone “more like a small tablet” and has about the same drop down as our tablets do for getting into the settings. The first thing it did was have us set up an account and get registered with DJI. It also had a firmware update that was done right away and we suggest doing that and not wait. There’s also a care package you can purchase that covers lost or damaged drone replacement. The plan gives you very reduced pricing on a replacement drone “2x a year” or repair service at a small fee with fast 3 day turn around. I would highly recommend getting this as I can see needing this service especially if you’ve never flown a drone before. My only issue is that you must purchase this plan within 48hrs of activation, that’s not much time to decide but we see it as worthwhile right from the get go.After setting up the remote, then we installed the freshly charged battery and turned on the drone by tapping the power button once then pressing for two seconds and releasing, “this is a safety feature so it doesn’t get turned on/off by accident, the same action is required for turning on the controller”. The remote paired with the drone and that’s when the activation stuff happens, the drone also had a firmware update you need to do that before going further.There are tons of settings for this drone, from camera to flight systems and you’ll want to make yourself familiar with everything before flying. The obstacle avoidance is one of the first things you need to “or should” change from stopping to avoiding so that the drone will fly around an obstacle instead of just flat stopping and going nowhere, this sort of confused me at first as I thought it was going to fly around an obstacle but instead just stopped. You also want to make sure the return to home is on so that way if anything does happen out of your control the drone can simply return to spot it took off from.Flying:This is one of the simplest drones I’ve ever flown. I hadn’t flown much of anything in a few years other than some mini drones or helicopters in the years past and things sure have changed. Once you’ve powered everything up and ready to fly just simply press the takeoff symbol and the drone will take off and hover about 3’ up. It’s amazingly quieter than some of the other’s I’ve flown and is so steady it’s amazing.What I found was if you put the switch in the top middle of the controller to “C” for Cinematic that slows down some of the actions of the controller for smooth shooting of videos, but this also keeps the controls from being so sensitive till you can get the feel of how it flies. Using “S” for Sport really amps up the controls and speeds, not using that till we are more used to flying and are comfortable with the higher speeds.It's been pretty windy here in the NW Phoenix area the last few days and I’m really impressed with the drone’s ability to keeps itself positioned with very little drift “as long as it’s not gusting”. I’m trying to fly when the winds are calmer but according to DJI it’s rated for up to 10mps or around 25mph wind resistance “that quite a bit for such a small drone”Now for shooting video and pictures, this is simply an amazing camera platform. The gimble allows you to rotate the camera vertically from around 90 degrees straight down to 60 degrees up from horizontal if you want to shoot up at something no problem “like looking up into a tree”. The quality of the 4k video is just outstanding, it can easily make someone look like a professional videographer with ease. There are so many options for programming in flight patterns and what you want the camera to do a book could easily be written on how to do everything and a lot of hands-on practice flying is going to go a long way. We’ve found some very good instructional videos on DJIs website and others on YouTube that really helped explain a lot of just what can be done. The camera gimble also lets you switch from Landscape to Portrait mode instantly with a simple tap on the controller’s screen.Conclusion:The drone is simply incredible, it’s small, lightweight, super easy to fly “after a little practice” and the video / picture quality is outstanding. The battery life with the batteries included in the Fly More kit easily last around 40 min which is plenty to get a lot of footage, and since there are 3 you can fly a long time.The RC 2 controller is really nice, it’s a huge upgrade from any of the ones we’ve used that has you dock your smart phone with it. Everything is built into the controller so there’s no need to add anything other than setting it up and registering the drone with the controller. The screen is large and amazingly clear, and is supposed to have about a 12mile “20km” line of sight range which is truly amazing. When setting it up you do have to attach the control sticks to the gimbals, they are underneath tucked in their own storage spots. I also added a SD card to the controller so that I could store screen captures there and mapping data.If you are in the market for a drone, doesn’t matter if you are new or experienced we think the new Mini 4 Pro from DJI will fit your needs perfectly.

My previous drone controllers needed your cell phone and would always lose the link between the controller and the phone while my drone was up in the air. Never a good feeling thinking your investment is flying away and there is nothing you can do about it. The RC2 controls are easy, there are tons of features, and all in easy to understand prompts. I was hoping I didn't get lost in a weird clunky app or some language translation that took a while to decipher. None of that is the case here it is easy to understand and follow and is effort free to use. I am surprised at how far this drone goes and never loses a signal or even loses bars of strength. Overall I was worried I would get another clunky drone that required some elaborate calibration each time I turned it on and instead this is power up and play. I really like how agile it is and quick to respond. Also, I like that it has sensors built in that warn you as you are getting close to objects. It did take a couple of minutes trying to figure out how to land and take off and I admit I needed some Google time to look for videos from other users showing me what I was doing wrong.Drawbacks are really just the included battery charger as it charges one battery at a time in series even though all can be plugged in at the same time. I know you can get better chargers but for the price of this drone it should really include all you need. If that is the only drawback though then it is a true winner which it is.It would be cool if DJI created some sort of chart that shows each customer what additional requirements or accessories are needed or even useful depending on exactly which drone they buy. If that chart included links to get FAA Certified according to what you plan to do along with additional requirements like the link to the TRUST certificate and even if you have all that maybe suggestions for accessories like some sort of light that your drone emits that can be seen over 3 miles which is also an FAA requirement for flying at night. I had no idea until today about this last requirement. That is an additional purchase but if everything was spelled out in an easy to understand format for customers it would make it more simple and effortless to purchase the correct drone. That being said, this drone is amazing, the camera takes incredibly clear photos and videos, just make sure the memory stick you purchase is high speed or the controller will use it but send you a warning your memory card is too slow.Would I buy the Mini 4 PRO again? Definitely

This drone is really a drone you want to get if you want to just focus on capturing your desired pictures and videos without having to worry about losing the drone. Return to Home feature is a blessing that allows you to just have the drone return to the takeoff point if you lose line of sight with the drone. Included in this package are 3 extra long flight time batteries rated at 45 mins of flight time per battery. It also includes a charger that will charge all three batteries serially. A Power Delivery USB-c charger is not included, but if you have a modern cell phone that handles 20W or more, you are set. Also, everything is contained in a nice compact leather case. Being in such a portable leather case means you are more likely to carry it everywhere with you. The only problem I see is that because of the tight fit of everything in the leather pouch, you need to remove the screw in thumb sticks of the controller. I am envisioning losing these thumb sticks forever if they fall onto the ground or in the grassy knoll in the dark. Extra thumb sticks are not included. All in all, this is a great package if you just want to get a drone with a quick learning curve and want to take exciting pictures and videos, this package is worth the money for the built in screen controller, batteries, and carrying case.

And in following mode, that can be following them from front or back and with a quick swipe of the finger will circle and move from an inside or outside ring to change the viewing distance and angle.The camera on this thing produces some of the best footage you'll ever see on a drone. It's so smooth and it has a great axis for full control of angles. And it can even be switched to film in vertical mode for all those super cool Tik Tok videos you want to make. The tracking functions are fantastic - just bear in mind it won't see and think like humans; it can lose you if you move too fast or erratically or get some obstructions between yourself and the drone.Transferring images and video from the drone was as easy as connecting any other camera or SD card to my computer. Flight time has been good, at least for my limited recreational flying. And the quality of the videos and images I've taken have been excellent. You wouldn't necessarily make a high-def film with this particular drone, but it more than serves for recreational use.If you want a light, capable drone, consider this one!

It supports a feature that DJI calls “MasterShots” where the subject is maintained at the center of the imaging while the drone maneuvers (try doing that by hand – it’s virtually impossible for most of us!).DJI states that the controller and drone can maintain connectivity out to 20km – that’s over 12 miles. I didn’t push it on my first test flight, I just went out about a half mile, but I had a great view of what the drone was seeing from the controller. DJI also specs omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, but I have not tried that other than during a landing attempt onto a surface on our deck, which it was persistently unwilling to do, so I’d have to say that feature gets a check mark.In summary, this is an amazingly capable drone for its price-point. I recommend it without hesitation for someone who wants a very capable drone that falls into the higher-end consumer market.

They include 3 total Plus batteries, the charging hub, the excellent RC2 controller with a bright integrated screen, extra propellers, and a USB A to C and USB C to C cable, all packed into a very compact bag. One interesting omission is the lack of any kind of charger – DJI recommends at least 30 watts to charge the batteries in the charging hub at the highest speed. I have one around and it also fits in the bag. The fact that you can pack the complete kit in this small bag is remarkable and great for travel.The charging hub is pretty cool, it allows for charging all 3 of the included batteries, and it can be used to charge other devices, including the RC or a phone, making it into a battery bank if you need power in a pinch in the field. The RC2 is also really nice. The screen is big and bright, and it allows for fully integrated control of the drone without having to connect a phone. Having only used the other kind of controller before that requires the phone to be tethered, I really appreciate how well this one works.Unpacking the drone there are two pieces of protective gear included, a propeller guard and a gimbal cover. The propeller guard is a little tricky, at least on mine, closing it requires a decent amount of pressure on the button clasp, which worries me a little as I don’t want to crush the drone’s folded legs. A magnetic clasp might have been better here. There are also a couple of protective bits of peel away tape and foam pads around the camera and gimbal assembly. Be careful removing these as the gimbal is a somewhat fragile assembly.The drone itself is packed with sensors. This little guy somehow has full omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, a downward facing auxiliary LED, and IR assisted ground sensors. All this in a drone that can fit under the 249g weight limit. It’s really remarkable. In flight, it is very stable, a hallmark of DJI drones. The Mini 4 Pro is also one of the quieter drones I have used, which combined with the small size, makes for a less obtrusive drone than some other larger professional models. It’s designed to be an aerial camera, not a sport drone, so expect stability and predictability over acrobatics. You can feel a little flex in the outer shell – it is made of very thin material to keep it light. There is a rigid under frame that is the actual structure of the drone. It has all of the usual hallmarks of the higher end series of DJI drones, with a built-in set of special effect style shots such as hyperlapse, helix, rocket, etc. It also can lock in to and track objects while doing dynamic angles and distances, and the omnidirectional obstacle avoidance really comes to play here as it can avoid or stop itself before it runs into something while following a subject. Of course, very narrow objects like power lines and thin tree branches may not be picked up, so always fly with caution and don’t rely on the sensors to avoid a crash.The drone features a camera with a 1/1.3” sensor that has a maximum resolution of 48mp. In practice, this means very high dynamic range 12mp photos, the possibility of 48mp still shots (some detail is lost if fully zooming into the image), and 4k video up to 100fps. Some of the video options, like 10-bit color, D-Log M, and up to 150mbps video rates allow for extensive post processing to create truly professional results from a mini class drone. The final outputs from these modes are great, with rich color straight out of the camera. I did notice in some lighting conditions that there is some lens flare from the multi-element lens.This camera also has a bit of a magic trick. With the press of a button, it physically rotates 90 degrees, allowing for portrait orientation photo and video recording at high resolution. This is awesome for social media content creators who want full detail on videos or stills that are headed to phones. The other really cool thing it can do is rotate up to 65 degrees upwards, allowing for some amazing angles of the sky, up into trees or embankments, etc. This unlocks a lot more options for capturing shots near or above the horizon line.Overall, this drone is very impressive. It has a huge amount of capability in a small package that can produce professional results and be under the FAA registration limit. This kit, having the Plus extended capacity batteries, pushes the drone over the weight limit and that may be a consideration for some. The included charging hub and the RC2 controller are excellent accessories that really increase the overall value of this kit. Personally, I really enjoy it and the extra flight time is great, but some may be better served with the non-Plus version of this kit that can stay under the FAA’s registration limit.

For the distance I fly, I won't notice the upgrade in signal strength, except for signal loss behind objects and land masses and I found the OcuSync 4 to be somewhat noticeable in maintaining a strong connection. Note, that the DJI RC and N1 controllers won't work with the MINI 4 Pro, you have to use the RC and NC2 controllers because of the OcuSync 4 technology. If you have flown any DJI drones in the past, this will be very familiar to you and you should have little to no learning curve for the basic operations of this drone. DJI is truly the "Apple" of Drones. Having owned both the RC (With Screen) and RC-N (Without Screen) controllers, I highly recommend saving up and just getting the RC controller option as it will save your phone battery, and remove having to connect another device. The RC controller just makes the experience much better. You will have to download the DJI fly app regardless of which option you get since that will help with wirelessly syncing your photos and video, as well as support firmware updates outside of areas with wifi connections. On another note, get the DJI CARE Refresh warranty, it's absolutely worth it and it's very easy to get a replacement drone if something breaks or you lose it and can't recover your drone. If you are unsure about the hobby and are looking to get started, while this drone is a great option, you might want to look at something like the DJI Mini 3 Pro (Discounted) or older for cost savings in case you don't end of enjoying the hobby, or you don't find yourself flying as much as you thought. Last thing to note, if you live in an area with flight restrictions, this drone WILL NOT allow you to fly inside your home or outside your home. It will be GEOLOCKED and you will probably find that frustrating. Check your area ahead of time so you don't get mad after powering on your shiny new drone and it won't take off, not even inside your own home. All in all, this is definitely a buy, but maybe not an upgrade for those who already own a Mini 3 Pro if that is working just fine for you.
