DJI Phantom 4 Pro+ Drone

I have had a terrible experience with IZilla also known as Velocity Outlet. I bought a DJI Phantom 4 Pro drone which they had discribed as new. The drone showed up with the box sealed but that’s when the good news ended. When inspecting the box I could see that it had a old shipping labels on it from 15,12, 2016 meaning although the drone box was sealed and it looked unused it was over 2 years old and maybe had been a bad batch that had been left lieing someware for years. This is bad news for both main batteries which I found both to be dead. The battery for the drone it’s self could be replaced but unfortunately the controller battery couldn’t as it’s built in meaning the full controller would need replaced. After a wile they came back to me and admitted they had similar problems with there other drones and they would report it to DJI. I never understood this as DJI wouldn’t be interested in a drone they shipped out over 2 years ago. I waited to see what the outcome would be. They came back to me and said they would replace the batteries for new but when I told them for a 2nd time that the full controller would need replaced they then said I would to send it back for a refund which I did right away. After checking the courier I could see that they have had the drone back for a few days so I sent them a email asking if they had prosessed my refund. I have just received a reply saying that they have to send the drone back to DJI to see if it had been tampered with. Come on that’s some excuse to use not to refund a customer plus DJI wouldn’t be interested in a product that been left to degrade for over 2 years. I made the order for this drone on the 26,12,2018 and still haven’t been provided with a refund.It’s looking like I am going to have to go to PayPal and my Credit card company. As far as I can see this company buys in old stock and sells it as new. This is a very bad idea with drones as there batteries will be damaged and could cause them to full out the sky if it works at all. This company had great prices but be careful and always make sure your full protected.

Advanced level drone

This is an awesome piece of equipment! I wouldn't necessarily recommend a 2K dollar drone for a beginning drone enthusiast, however with that being said I started out with this one and just did a tremendous amount of low level very basic flying in my yard to familiarize myself with it.This is the 2nd one of these that I bought, the first one I that I purchased worked great and I really was enjoying it. I challenged every safety feature on it individually, and in pairs, such as the return to home feature due to low battery, and loss of radio control, worked perfectly every time, and the object avoidance was flawless. There was absolutely nothing I could do, I could hear the aircraft still but could do absolutely nothing. This was following Hurricane Harvey, and there was a tremendous amount of floodwater in our area at the time so I could not get to it's location. Very expensive loss, all the features worked flawlessly up until that point, this event is the only thing that prevents me from giving this a five star rating. I have since purchased another but it's a very hard pill to swallow losing one of these. it's only replaceable if you have the damaged one I have had no luck finding it due to the depth and duration of the flood waters. My caution to anyone purchasing one would be very cautious and conservative in your aircraft batter levels. While I flew this thing around my house on numerous occasions taking batter levels down to 5% or less with no issues, I would not recommend that based on this event. Based on my experience I would set my return level at 20% on the aircraft, this is conservative and should prevent you from having this problem. Otherwise I love this thing, fricken awesome!!

An excellent drone for anyone seeking professionalism.

I had a problem with the battery that came with the drone, but Adorama had me return it with no questions asked and they sent me an entire new unit pronto. I've purchased a great deal of my gear from them over the years and will continue into the foreseeable future.Now, I am extremely new to drones and do not know how to fly them. I was deeply concerned because the forecast for the week that I was going to be there had temperatures for the entire week in the sub zero range with highs in single digits with wind chill in the 20s.I viewed all the warnings and learned a few things. Keeping the battery warm goes a long way in flying this drone in cold weather. Although fearful I'd loos my drone, I almost had no choice because the scenery was so outstanding and my time there was limited.So with much trepidation, I put it in the air. Wowwwww is all I could say after thawing my fingers and watching the footage.A number of times, I did get a high wind velocity warning, thus I did not fly higher than 100 feet and most of the time, much less than that. And there was only a few times I got a battery temperature warning, which I landed Immediately following.Now I can't fly a drone anymore than I can fly a real plane, but the Phantom Is so stable and the remote is so easy to use that it feels easier than I've heard it is to fly drones.A couple of days, it was snowing while I flew as can be seen in my videos. Notice how the snow was whipping around as I flew over the building and also notice that as I flew the Phantom over the Saco River the snow was falling almost horizontally.Likewise, back at home in Florida at Red Reef the coconut palm trees are swaying pretty hard. Nevertheless, the Phantom is as steady as if it's on a crane. And the video quality is superb.I did set the camera manually and used ND filters for each shot, which are excellent features with the Phantom. I love the ability to manually set the exposure.I am so impressed with the steadiness and durability of this drone, especially in inclement weather, but I'm even more impressed with the quality of footage out of the camera. Now I do not suggest or promote using your Phantom in the type of weather I used mine. Remember, I was desperate.I do however, and very strongly recommend this particular drone to anyone who needs an all around professional drone.

Buggy software makes it very frustrating

I've used a Phantom 3 Pro for about two years. When it works it's great, but constant bugs and glitches make it a frustrating experience. DJI frequently updates the software (installing it is time-consuming) and often restricts the ability for it to fly until you update it. Unfortunately the company doesn't notify you ahead of time that it's requiring an update, so you first find out about it when you're in the field and it won't fly. It happened with a client once in a remote area and was quite embarrassing. I had no wifi and very weak cell service, so had to drive 40 miles round trip to update it in the middle of the night so that I would be ready to fly at dawn. In my last flight, the signal was lost completely even though the drone was easily in range and in sight. It crashed. So I purchased a Phantom 4 Pro. It took 5 hours to get the software loaded and updated because of various glitches. I've then had lots of problems getting the histogram to turn on. It's very necessary for good photography. The useless DJI techs said "reboot the software" which I had done, "reinstall all the software," which I did wasting a couple of hours, or "buy a new tablet." I did the first two to no avail. I'm a little wary of spending $300-400 for a tablet when I'm not even sure that's the problem. On one of the first flights the obstacle avoidance software kept stopping the aircraft while I was trying to shoot video, even though I was up 200 feet and there were no obstacles for 1000 feet in any direction. I had to turn off the obstacle avoidance. One major irritation already is that it requires you to log in anytime you boot up the DJI Go software prior to flight. I often shoot in areas with no cell service or wifi. I haven't put it to the test yet, but expect it to be a major problem when I don't have cell service. On the good side the camera is better optically, has higher resolution, has a bigger sensor, and has an adjustable aperture. So, when you can get the drone to work, you do get good photos and video.

I have made some amazing photos with it that have enlarged to 16x20 inch prints with incredible detail. When I discovered that DJI had incorporated this very sensor into the Phantom 4 Pro, my search was over. If you have any negative allusions about products made in China, this will dispell them. The quality of this bird, as well as the attention to detail is nothing less than stunning. It is a powerful, extremely, stable platform for photography and videography. There is a learning curve to this copter, as it is capable of so many different flying choices; however, DJI includes a flight simulator built into the controller so you can gain some confidence with the sticks before your first flight. The DJI Go 4.0 app that controls all aspects of flying and photographing the Phantom is extremely mature and seems to be very bulletproof. It constantly supplies the pilot with a plethora of information while airborne and I could not imagine using any third party app in its place for flying. It includes a number of intelligent flight modes, which when selected allow certain aspects of flying to be automated, allowing the pilot to focus on making good photos or capturing video footage. In short, I could not be more pleased with my purchase. As always, B&H was prompt in filling my order and even paid for expedited shipping. I have bee a customer since the late 1970's and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

Initially I attempted to use an iPad Mini and iPhone 5S. In both cases I found the Apple devices overheated and were unable to sustain the display of video from the Phantom once the Apple processor throttle to protect itself from heat. But simple workaround solved this issue and I'm happy with the Samsung Tab S2.Point in fact if using an Apple their iPad Pro devices are engineered to manage heat, where the Mini is not. Samsung is a good option at a lower price but requires a specific sequence of events to connect and is reliable when used this way. Asus ZenFone 3, sold by ABT, works with zero issues though is a smaller 5.5 inch screen.Also notable is that the DJI Phantom 4 battery is not the same as the Phantom 4 Pro battery. The Pro battery has higher capacity (500 mAh) which translates into longer flight time. Both batteries fit the Phantom 4 Pro.

Spectacular

Let me start by saying that this is the first DJI product I have ever purchased, or in fact, ever used at all. I've had a 3DR Solo for about a year now. Solo is a great product, but I was disappointed to see 3DR moving away from the consumer market, and ostensibly, ceasing to produce meaningful updates to the Solo (no planned support for the GoPro Hero 5 was the deal breaker for me). It seemed only sensible to move on to DJI, a company that is clearly leading the pack in terms of consumer UAS technology. Id originally planned to purchase the Mavic Pro, but decided to get the Phantom 4 Pro instead as the Mavic still seems to be widely unavailable. I do not regret my decision in the slightest. The aircraft is an absolute joy to fly, incredibly responsive and producing unrelentingly stable footage. In fact, it was almost too sensitive out of the box and I had to dial down the sensitivity for smoother, more cinematic flight control. The DJI GO app takes a little bit of time to learn, but after a few flights it became fairly straightforward. The sheer amount of flexibility and customization you can perform within the app is staggeringly powerful. Perhaps one small but incredibly important feature is aperture control. This allows you to keep a solid 180-degree shutter without having to use ND filters in bright sunlight (most of the time). The 100 mbps 4k image quality is beautiful and stands up well to basic grading (its still 8-bit and cant hold a candle to ProRes or RAW, but certainly better than any other consumer drone footage I have seen, at least as good as what the Inspire 1 can achieve). I could probably gush about this drone for several more paragraphs, but suffice to say, its an incredibly well-made and well-designed piece of aerial photography equipment that sets an exceptionally high bar in the industry.

The Best Yet

The Phantom 4 Pro is my fourth DJI drone, and by far the best (although the Mavic Pro was a close second). Since starting out a few years ago with the original Phantom carrying a rigidly mounted GoPro, the evolutionary advances in flight capabilities and camera/gimbal functionality have come remarkably quickly, and now offer truly professional results for capturing aerial imagery in a cost-effective package. Dual band communication will help a lot in situations where wireless interference is prevalent. The 20MP camera in the P4P performs well in auto mode, but yields best results when set to manual (as with previous DJI quads). Aperture control -- a first for the Phantom series -- makes manual control more useful in the P4P than before. You can expect performance roughly on par with a Sony RX100 (minus zoom) with this camera, and the gimbal stabilization is fantastic. Video is sharp and smooth. The obstacle avoidance systems should come in very handy, but so far I haven't been in a situation where they have been employed. I backed into a tree with a previous Phantom, and spent $200 in repairs. I'm hoping the P4P systems will prevent me from repeating that sort of error. I believe the Phantom 4 Pro is an amazing technological achievement that easily justifies its cost. It isn't a beginner model -- get a DJI Spark if you are new to all this -- but if you are looking for a very high quality, easy to fly camera in the sky, this is it.

USER FRIENDLY

This was my first drone purchase and it has been worth every penny. I have had it for 2 months now and flying this thing is so much fun. I just bought it to mess around and to add a little production value to a video i help produce every year for a fundraiser. First off the learning curve is very easy. Although setting it up did take a little time (about 45 mins with the updates you need to make to the app and the hardware) I realize now that in comparison to other drones, it was a piece of cake! My friends got the star wars drones for Christmas and after I setup the phantom 4 i figured the little star wars drones would be easier. BOY WAS I WRONG!!! It made me appreciate just how user friendly the phantom 4 truly is.I was debating whether to get the mavic or the phantom 4 however I went into the store and saw the video quality difference and the phantom 4 was a no-brainer. Im very much an amateur when it comes to photography and video, so i have to do more studying on how to get the right exposure but as far as flying, this thing is sooo sick and again very easy for beginners like me!I have flown it in great weather conditions but i have also flown it in windy conditions and at night time. The gimbal is incredible and it held up beautifully in the wind. The censors on this thing work pretty great most of the time, and there is an upgrade to this model that does allow for indoor flying, however the censor did fail me once indoors and it hit a wall (but it could have been the light grey color that might have seemed like just sky). Also, i flew it at night time and the censor didnt see the tree so i did a little bit of leaf trimming, but that was just shoddy piloting lol. I dont recommend flying at night time because its hard to see the image.I was a bit hesitant about having to use my phone as the screen, i thought the delay would be noticeable. I have a goPro Hero 3 and when ive used the gopro app on my phone to see the image, the delay is too annoying. BUT on the phantom 4 its not an issue at all.Battery life is okay, im sure they will get better with time, it says average time is 30 mins but im averaging like 23-25 with constant flying which is still more than enough time to film the shots you need with good planning. The battery life on the remote is great. I definitely recommend buying at least 1 extra battery. A great feature is that the app tells you what the battery life percentage is on the drone battery although it starts annoyingly beeping at 30% which i understand is important for people who fly it far away, but I always keep it in my sight so it is annoying.I havent tested the drone for distance so I dont know if it really is capable of flying the 4+ miles advertised, like i said i keep it within eye sight.My one complaint, is that I was pretty sure that when i was speaking with the DJI rep inside the BestBuy store, he mentioned that it had a manual zoom that i could control on the remote, but apparently there is no zoom so yeah, thats my only complaint.The propellers are great, like i said, ive hit a wall and trimmed some leaves but ive been using the same 4 propellers that came with the drone (there are a total of 8 propellers, but ive only used 1 set so far) and they are holding up great.I wish the insurance was a little cheaper, I would have bought it if it was a bit cheaper so I have to make sure i dont hit anything else lol.In summary, this drone is worth every penny! Great product by DJI!
