AFO friendly sizes aren’t so friendly after all. There’s extra space in the shoe’s heel cup that the shape of the ankle opening does not allow the AFO heel into, which makes the AFO slide and wobble. It leads to an astronaut like feeling and making walking and especially going up and down stairs in many ways more difficult than without AFOs on. A properly accommodating shoe needs to match the lines of the AFO.

I bought this a pair of this style high tops for my 5 year old daughter who requires an AFO on one foot. The customer service team was SUPER supportive at answering any questions prior to purchasing and helping to find an appropriate size for my daughter based on measurements of feet! The option to be able to get two different sized shoes is definitely a plus! My girl loves wearing her new shoes and the wrap around zipper is so convenient for her to put her shoes on all by herself! I'm actually ordering a second pair for my girl this week, we just love the idea of Billy shoes THAT much! :)

My now adult son has worn various braces & we only had the white XXX wide shoes back then and then had to order whatever we could find which usually was bigger sizes in whatever we could find and they would tear up. And nothing was in style or stock or anything remotely close to easy on or off Finding Billys shoes has been a life saver. These shoes are amazing. With the top fully zipping open it makes putting shoes on super easy, especially with wearing AFO'sAnd the sole is great and wide so very stable and great grip.This is about the 10th pair we have bought. I buy multiple at a time as we have to get the sole on left shoe built up due to 1 leg shorter.Super fast delivery also.

This incredibly cute shoe is perfectly made and functional for my daughter’s needs. The ease of use is very helpful with her orthotics. I was also impressed to have received an email post delivery explaining how to properly use the lace/zipper function. Shoes are priced fairly. Quality is top notch. Fit is perfect.
These are super cute, it’s been very difficult to find shoes for my granddaughters afo’s , she’s only 5, but after purchasing 5 pairs and trying and returning, all from Billy’s these worked, she loved the sparkle and of course the hot pink. I ended up sizing up 1 size and going with the xw. They look huge but her lil foot a size 12.5 fits perfectly and comfortably in this shoe. Billy makes a very trendy, sturdy shoe with great customer service and genius design for easy use. There aren’t a lot in the extra wide but the variety in the rest of their shoes are countless. Thank you for making so many choices to choose from, it’s difficult sending your lil ones to school with braces to begin with, but easier when they can choose their shoes and think they are cool.

I purchased these for my 7yr old granddaughter who has muscular dystrophy. She hasn’t been able to wear shoes for a while as we couldn’t get her feet into shoes. This is the best choice I’ve ever made. I allowed her to choose the shoes she wanted and wow you can’t see it in the picture but they’re very glittery and she loves them. The smile on her face when she realised that she could put them on and off herself was priceless. She has now chosen another two pairs and loves them also .
We've been using Billys for years with my daughter's AFOs, and after trying to cram her into regular and wides, I'm happy to report that the XWide width is really ideal for fitting the braces. However, I continue to be so disappointed with the quality of the shoes--she consistently wears a hole in the toes within a couple months of wear. This summer, she had neurosurgery to help correct her gait and has been watched obsessively over the past 6 weeks to ensure she's building new neural pathways that don't drag her toes (and has been inside walking on hospital floors!) and she still managed to wear a hole in her newest pair in under two months.
