My son wears AFOs and regular sneakers are so difficult to put on due to the rigidity of the brace. Billy shoes make it easy for the brace to slip right in, giving my son the ability/independence to put his shoes on by himself. My 10 year old favors this high top style, and picked the paint spatter pattern out himself. I have been purchasing Billy Footwear for almost 5 years and will continue to do so in the future.

IF you can ever find the right fit, they are the best! My son has AFO’s and it has been such a frustrating process finding ones that fit. I bought this pair because it was labeled the same way as the ones that work great for him. We were so disappointed when the toe area was much more narrow! Out of the 6 pairs we have bought now, only two worked for him. They were the exact same shoe in different sizes. I know they advertise them to work well with AFO’s but for us it has been hard to find the right style. But the ones that do fit him are amazing and we are so thankful to have found something that works.

My daughter LOVES these, however, she managed to break these within 2.5 weeks of wearing them. The zipper wraps around the front of the toe, which makes them super easy to put on, but she drags her toes and trips all the time, and she managed to break the zipper apart from the rest of the shoe right at the top of the toe. So, still would highly recommend, but maybe for kiddos who are a little more gentle on shoes. They don't hold up to rough play very well.

We are very pleased with this shoe! My son doesn't need braces, which is the main function of the issue. Rather, he has very long and wide feet with a narrow heel and a high arch. We normally have to buy shoes with shoe laces to accommodate his feet, but his school required Velcro. Finding Velcro shoes in size 3 is very difficult, so we decided to try these. We are very pleased! He will be able to zip the shoe from his toe upwards with no problem. The only thing that bothered our son was the "weird feeling" towards his toe. I think it was the feeling of the zipper. (My son is on the autism spectrum, so he has sensory needs.) If you have a kiddo who has ridiculously wide and tall feet, this is a great shoe to try out!
I really do love these shoes as my son wears AFOs and it is a good option. Some feedback to consider for why I gave this product a 3 is because there are some improvement that can be made. A lot of kids with medical conditions that affect their gait buy this product. With that in mind the rubber on the bottom of the shoe could be stronger material. My son will wear down the front due to his gait within a couple of months. Sometimes the zippers on the shoes will also fail before he has out grown the shoe do due rubbing from his gait. A material to give this product strength on the front of the shoe would help so much. Otherwise I love this shoe as it makes it easy to put on with his AFOs.
A great shoe for use with orthotics. The zipper makes it easy to put on and take off. The ability to adjust the laces to accommodate the braces is absolutely perfect. A well made sturdy construction. I strongly recommend this shoe.
Perfect. There isn't a better word to describe these shoes!My daughter, 8 in 2nd grade, is fairly new to having AFOs and we've gone through a few pairs of shoes already.These are super sturdy, while not being extra heavy and they're SO easy to zip! The independence she has again putting on her shoes in the morning is refreshing! These have easily shaved 10 minutes from the morning routine and we won't go back!
These shoes are amazing! We're new to the world of SMOs and our kiddo did not like trying to fit into regular wide shoes. Even shoes that claimed to be extra wide still weren't a good fit but he absolutely loves these high tops.And they truly are extra wide! (If that's what you order lol)
We bought these shoes for our son who wears SMOs. These are not the first pair of Billy shoes that he has had over the years but this is the first pair in which the zipper has broken within 2 months of wearing. It is disappointing as they normally last us about a six months to a year before we need to order new ones due to foot growth or normal wear and tear. This is also the first time we got the extra wide width to accommodate the smos, i don't know if that is part of the problem. I still recommend these shoes for those with SMOs, or DAFOs as they are great shoes, however i hope that these zipper issues will be addressed and fixed as they are not cheap shoes.
