I have been wearing Docs since mid-1990's and they are the ONLY dress shoe I own / wear (prom - my wedding - business (I'm an Architect)- funerals - leisure). EVERY new pair I get, the first time wearing, and subsequent 1st few days my ankle / Achilles / back of heel is bloody and torn up. After getting through the pain, and raw skin (1st week) I have Zero problems: best shoe ever. What can I do to avoid this sacrifice each and every time I get new shoes? is it the angle of the heel/sole...it's angled so its thicker at the very back of shoe - does this cause the cutting into my back ankle because of my step..? Yes, I can pad with gauze and pads for the first week, but I'd rather "solve" the problem if I could. I love Docs. I LOVE these shoes. Wore them for the first time today for work and no issues- so comfy! They look absolutely fantastic and I feel smart wearing them for work but with some personality wearing these Docs! The Virginia version of these shoes is particularly soft compared to the others I tried on in store too. I sized down half a size which was perfect for me. There are different colour laces too which I only considered when I saw in store so brought the classic brown and yellow ones. I hope these will last me a long time, they certainly feel like a quality pair of shoes you'd expect from Dr Martens!

It took a few days to figure out the fit.1st I tried thick socks like a lot of people recommended. 2nd I tried insole over the entire inside of shoe. Then I saw a a YouTube video suggesting putting the insole only at the ball of the foot area in the shoe. This worked out!!! No more heal rubbing and the shoe is very comfortable to wear. My right foot is just a smidge larger than my left. I had to cut some of the insole away from the outer portion near my little toe. Worked out great.

I ordered these in a size 8 US women. With thin socks they were so loose. I tried a thicker sock and they were a tad better. I then tried a Dr Martens classic insole - game changer. I did order a size 7 for comparison but they were too tight and also didn’t look right proportionally on me because they were shorter in length (so those are going back). I’m settling on the size 8, but I absolutely have to wear an insole or my foot will be flopping around. I think this is a universal Dr Martens sizing problem if you have a narrow heel. If they sold a 7.5 it’d probably be perfect, but the insole takes them down a 1/2 size for me and the comfort level is astounding. No painful breaking in period. Plus - they look phenomenal. My new Docs: I’ve had them on my feet every day since they arrived, and I can’t stop looking at them: archetypal 1461s in Smooth Black Leather. Funny how you can change your mind about what suits you – I happen to be slim and I used to think these big shoes (size 9.5 for me) with those familiar deep, wide soles did not work with my body shape. But now I just don’t care what anyone else might think, they feel good. And they look handsome. I have noticed now, when travelling on the busy London Tube, there will be several people in each carriage wearing DMs. Quality will out. As for me, having experienced the AirWair Bounce, I’ll never go back to a solid sole. I just love these shoes.
These are a serious pair of shoes you can tell will last and last. I can recall shoes of this kind of quality when I was young, solid hard leather ( hence my ‘old fashioned’ comment in the title ) true they need wearing in, something that provides in the end a much better fit and feel but still with the quality to last rather than the modern trainer type that just wear out after a season. If I had any criticism it would be that I would prefer longer laces but I think I can possibly just about manage to sort that out! I think they deserve to become a true icon where a brand becomes the name of the item like a Hoover. What type of Doc Martens do you wear? I got these shoes because they are exactly fit my needs and I like the look of them. First pair I had to return because they were far larger then my size. After getting the second pair (one size smaller), I was reluctant to keep them because they seem to be too stiff, I wasn't sure they would be comfortable walking for a long time. After reading a lot of reviews about needing to break them in, I wore them at home for a couple of hours a day for about 2 weeks. Now hey feel comfortable to walk anywhere for a long time. I do not regret buying them and spending time to break them in. I feel that I will be wearing these shoes for a long time.
I have ordered these shoes because my father has dementia. He was so pleased with his new shoes that he stated it was like walking on air.Without the help of Lisa from the Cambridge shop we would not have been able to order these shoes at all. Because my mother and father do not have access to Internet anymore. My father was really good with the Internet but due to his illness he cannot use the Internet any more and my mother has never used it. I live over 200 hundred miles away from my parents. Lisa from the Cambridge shop managed to send out some information in picture format and my father chose what he wanted mum then phone me with the order number and I then went onto the Internet and ordered them. I have always love love loved the Dr Martens brand, they never fail us and always provide trustworthy quality and long lasting comfortable products. These are a beautiful shoe and the platform is awesome. Unfortunately the sizing in these are larger than normal, which is not unusual in this brand. I am an Australian size 9.5 ladies. Sometimes I am a Doc UK 7 and sometimes I am an 8, it depends on the style and country of make. This particular one runs large, I bought what was labeled an AUS 10 but what arrived was the UK 8, in the shop the lady told me the UK 7 is equivalent to an AUS 10. A bit confusing - I wish they would just standardise this. Will be sending back and hoping to swap for the UK 7 as these slip off the heel when I walk especially seeing as the ... MoreI have always love love loved the Dr Martens brand, they never fail us and always provide trustworthy quality and long lasting comfortable products. I see they have since sold out, hopefully someone returns the 7 so i get lucky and can swap.
Been wearing Dr Martens since early 90's. Work, play beat the heck out of them. Lasted forever, eventually the soles ware down after a very long time, thats about it. Made in England! Since the early 2000's most people have been buying DM's made in Asia and "something" has changed. Most noteably the soles are cracking or seperating from the shoe. My last pair of 1925's lasted a few years until the the sole literally split in half and began seperating from the shoe itself. The leather had begun to crack and develop holes...I have never experienced this myself with Docs. I have seen the seperation happen within a few weeks with some other people. The 1461's I received had the QC sticker inside and were made in Bangladesh. I have seen the seperation happen within a few weeks with some other people. The 1461's I received had the QC sticker inside and were made in Bangladesh. The interior yellow stitching is sloppy and the exterior length of stitching gets smaller as it approaches the heal on the right shoe. Left exterior heal swoops down and the right exterior shoe swoops more upward. Both interiors do not match. The cutting was off. This may sound picky, if you are an old school DM owner you will notice. New to DM's you probably wont notice or care. This is a quality issue that just seems to be common and acceptable amongst all brands now.Overall , they are still a nice pair of Dr Martens that will hopefully last awhile. You can still buy real Docs Made in England for about $100 more if you prefer to support people working in better conditions and probably much fairer wages. Otherwise, these will do. Principles and intergrity have long passed.Remember to break them in slow, condition and polish....hopefeully the "bouncing soles" stay on." Review Sweepstakes "
