These are probably the most comfortable straight out the box docs I've bought yet. Leather thats soft enough to take the pain out of wearing them in yet sturdy enough to take any punishment you can throw at them. Same quality you've come to expect from "old school" docs, just without blisters. My only issue is I received the wrong size so have to wait another 8 weeks for the much needed upgrade of my 12 year old faithful docs.

They look great, nice soft leather, even if it only seems to be near the top part of the boot and the heel and front part are still pretty tough though. As with all DM's the breaking in part is never fun and I got some pretty bad blisters with these ones. But double doc socks and compeed plasters to the rescue! Managed to survive a whole metal gig wearing them for the first time thanks to the socks and plasters, highly recommend them! Overall love the boots but breaking them in is still brutal (not done yet!).

This is my very first pair of Doc Martens. I was a little apprehensive that at 53 years old, i was a little over the hill to start wearing this style of boot, but i have to say i love them. They are perfect to go with jeans or dresses & look great with either. They are really comfortable. I thought i would have to break them in a bit, but no, they have fitted brilliantly from day one with no rubbing or discomfort. I have a lot of boots but can firmly say these are now my evertday go to boot over all my others. Highly recommend these.

This Virginia leather is extremely floppy. It's soft and pliable to the point of feeling flimsy. If you're looking for a fashion boot with minimal break-in necessary, this might be a good boot for you. For me, it felt like I would wear through these in 6 months or less. They also look a little saggy even when they are fully laced up. Not for me.I typically wear a 7 in most shoes, however any lace up Dr. Martens boot I order a women's 6 and it fits well. In contrast, I fit a 7 in any of their slip on Chelsea boots. These seem to run a bit large to me.
The boots look great, and after breaking in, they are extremely comfortable. They are slightly narrow on the toe box than previous Dr Martens I have owned, so I needed to size up.The one irritating thing is the insoles are made of a super grippy material which makes it almost impossible to slide my feet into the boots with out my socks being pulled uncomfortably tight over my toes. I have to take the laces almost right out to get my foot in the boots. I’ve tried socks of different materials and they all grip on to the insole in the same way.The Insole is also glued down so it can’t be removed and replaced without ripping it out.
So I have been after a pair of these particular DM's for about one year - I am a life long DM fan and already have three pairs. So finally I was able to order them - when they arrived the first thing I noticed was that some of the tissue paper they arrived in was stuck the top of the boot. When I tried to pull it away, it left a sort of residue mark - like glue. Anyway - it was about the size of a finger nail and I can live with it - just mentioning so you can address back n the factory. On trying them on, I noticed that one foot is rubbing/chaffing at the place the stitching meets the laces section, I am stretching them at the moment, so this should nob be problem going forward. Finally - I was surprised at how thin the leather was at the ankle section. DM's have ... That said, I will endeavour to wear them in and wear with pride, as I do the others (which fitted perfectly first time - hence me mentioning it now).
My First pair and I am so disappointed with this purchase! Ordered 2 sizes, one size 6 is too big , the other, size 5, too small. I have tried to wear the bigger size with insoles but unfortunately it hurt my feet very much because they are still big. They are sitting nicely in my cupboard, can't wear them and return. The leather is soft and the boots are light- positive side.If you are between the sizes I would not recommend this style.
I am 68 years old and this is the 3rd pair of Dr Martens I have bought in my lifetime. My first pair was bought when I was in my 20s and they lasted til I was 45 they were the brown/red colored ones. My second pair are blue, I bought them to replace my first pair and I am still wearing them albeit that the heels and soul have worn thin. I have now bought my 3rd pair and I reckon the will see me out! I have worn these Dr Martens regularly. The are just fantastic and I would never be without a pair.
I own a pair of 1461s in size 38 smooth leather but even after several years they were never comfortable. I normally wear size 7.5 wide in US sizing and 39 in EU sizing. So I decided to get the 1490s in Virginia leather size 39. The size 39 was much too big-- my feet shifted and the laces were so long I could wrap them around the shoes. I exchanged them for size 38 and they are perfect! Comfortable right out of the box. I'm not sure how durable the Virginia leather will be over time but it is so much more comfortable than smooth leather! The 1490s have such a nice silhouette. They are the perfect length and tighten well to look sleek with tights, dresses, pants, skirts... anything!
I sent the boots back the same day I received them. I was not impressed with the quality at all. The yellow stitching was inaccurate, poorly done and doubled over in places. This made the boots look cheap which is not what I expect from Dr Martens.I did like the feel of the soft leather compared to the smooth leather. I probably would have liked these better in black as a opposed to the white which was on sale. They looked good in the photos but in reality, they looked and felt cheap. As for the style, not sure they suited me as they come up higher on the calf. Being 5ft 2in they sit on the wrong part which made my legs look shorter.I’m usually a size 6 but ordered a 6.5 hoping for a bit more room and they felt small! Not a fan so sent them back. I decided to shop vintage for DMs in future as the quality is so much better as well as the styles. In fact not sure why I didn’t do this sooner as I only ever wear vintage! Pah!I don’t think I’ll shop brand new with Dr Martens again.
