They are durable and famously stiff to start with, it moulds to your feet and gets more comfortable with time. W suggest that you wear them with two pair of socks the first few days. The shock absorption is great, the rubber is soft but not too soft, and it's nice to walk around in these boots. These are probably the most comfortable straight out the box docs I've bought yet. Leather thats soft enough to take the pain out of wearing them in yet sturdy enough to take any punishment you can throw at them. Same quality you've come to expect from "old school" docs, just without blisters. My only issue is I received the wrong size so have to wait another 8 weeks for the much needed upgrade of my 12 year old faithful docs.

These are amazing legendary boots. My first martins! I chose between model 1460 and 1490 for a long time. The difference is only in the number of eyes. Well, I thought so. It turned out that when choosing the size, the difference is also noticeable! Almost all Dr. Martens run big, so it's best to take a half size - a size smaller than usual. I should have thought about it. My size is 38.5 and I decided to order 39. It was a big mistake! They are too big for me! I put two insoles in each, put on another sock and still they remain large. I didn't realize it right away, so I won't be able to return it. I wear them as they are. But they don't rub! Important: model 1460 is oversized, but 1490 is oversized even more! Good but

I really like these for the silhouette. They’re everything you’d want in a midcalf as far as looks. Sadly though they’re so spongey at the bottom they don’t feel like a boot. They had no break in time, but I’d prefer a tougher boot for 190 and wouldn’t mind breaking them in. The leather is ok , but nothing like the MIE. I wished they had Made In England 1490s still. I would have preferred to have bought those. These are good year welted though and that’s nice knowing. All in all 3 stars. They have the look and who knows maybe they’ll survive a year or two as my go to everyday boot.

I ordered size 9 boots

Love them

Excellent Dr. Martens with a good fit for me, but I ended up choosing different ones (Bex Unisex, 8 hole). It was quite the dilemma to make this decision as the taller 10 holes are very cool. I really like the roomier fit of the 1490 or Bex Unisex vs. the Women's versions. The Women's 1460 size 8s were very tight on me, whereas these 1490s and Bex Unisex 8s were much roomier and accommodated my wide feet.

Preparing for take off

Still great boots, smooth leather black 10 hole docs are a timeless classicReassuringly difficult at first, knowing that breaking them in will be a painful right of passage, but when done, they will be so comfortable as to not even notice them on. 2 pairs of thick thermal socks on, a medicinal brandy swigged & I’m ready to face it … let’s do this thing !!!

QC has gone way down!

I have a pair of made in wherever 1460s that are over 8 years old they have held up great. I believe they are the greasy finish. These smooth leather 1490s are all over the place. The grain on each leather panel is different. I always wear size 8 in DOCs I tried on 4-5 pairs and they all fit different.I could not find a pair of 1490s that fit like my 1460sSome of them had glued in insoles ! Even tho the Dr. Marten store wants to up sell you the “comfort” insoles.I ended up returning these shoes but I love them so much! I’ll have to wait for DM to bring back the 1490 Made in England or another leather option before I try these again. Sad!I love DOCS but they got to get these QC issues under control!

Sizing is confusing af

Really wanted to give these a try and thought I reviewed the sizing info fully but when I got them they didn’t seem right. I got the size I always wear which is not a full number size and not a half but these seemed too big. Really not sure about ordering a full size down from what I usually wear and didn’t get good answers on that. Never worn docs before. Always got actual surplus combat boots. Which aren’t the most comfortable footwear in the world but they cost half as much as these and seem to be better made. Not sure how long these docs would have lasted as I didn’t get to wear them but they didn’t feel very rugged for what you pay for.
