My first pair of Docs (size 8) is discontinued - all black docs with the floral insides that hit at lower calf. I tried the Virginia 1460 but had trouble with sizing particularly with the stitching that connects the tongue of the shoe to the rest of the boot, which let to my search of a boot without that stitching. Enter: Combs.Although I wore the 8 in my original docs, the 7's fit me fairly well with a little room to spare. The only thing that I'll need to "break in" with the Combs is the part that hits the back of my calf - it can rub and cause some discomfort if you're not wearing super high socks. That said, I do like them a lot and think that they'll be my new fav docs for the time to come. These are my first pair of Docs and I really love them. I have been wearing them every day the past month and have gotten some compliments on them out in public. I have actually never been complimented on my shoes so that was pleasantly awkward. The black pair of laces that came with the shoes lost one of the protective plastic ends right out of the box so that wasn’t cool but didn’t bother me cause the bonus yellow laces are more badass anyway!I ended up ordering a second pair of 1460 Docs and I prefer the Combs. The leather is more flexible and just feels better. It might not be a fair comparison though because the 1460s are just a bit too big (I went up a size thinking that it would fit me better - one of my feet is slightly larger than the other which is why I ... MoreThese are my first pair of Docs and I really love them. Because of this, I can’t give a five star. If the stars came in half increments, I would give 4.5 stars. In any case, I am really happy that I went with these and I can’t wait to order more!!

I am so pleased with the Dr Martens comb boots that this is my second pair I've ordered. They are great for smart and casual occasions alike, depending on what you wear with them. Personally I like mine scuffed up a bit for that worn look but you can smarten them up with a bit of dubbin to bring back the shine.I've worn them in all weathers, wind, rain and shine and they have stood the test. I've worn them on muddy dog walks and they have never let water in as my feet have been bone dry.Probably the best thing about them isn't just their versatility but that the leather is softer than that of the 1460 Docs, if you've ever owned a pair you will know what I mean! With these, the leather is more supple and they are so easy to bed in. In fact after wearing my other ... MoreI am so pleased with the Dr Martens comb boots that this is my second pair I've ordered. I own several Doc’s boots and I can confidently say that something is strangely off with this model. I’m size 7, always. Size 7 of these one was way too big for me. Uncomfortably large. Ok. I then ordered second pair, size 6 since they don’t have half sizes. Nope. Tight and small. I spend 2x$7 to return them (seriously, you don’t offer free returns?) and just waste my time driving to the UPS. Do better.
I got this on a sale for $75. It was my first Dr. Martens and needed a pair of boots for my trip to Scotland during the cold January month. The sizing was spot on and the fit was perfect. Dr. Martens's shoes really are unique in how they feel inside. They look uncomfortable but they are quite in fact one of the most comfortable shoes I've worn, walking a couple of miles per day. These are now one of my go-to shoes, especially for colder months. Makes it even more amazing that I got them at nearly 60% of the full price.
I received the long awaited boots and they were marred, scuffed and creased. They also were at least 2 sizes too large. I spoke with a wonderful customer service rep. named Tess. I sent the required pictures returned the marred boots and awaited the replacement pair.A few days later I received an email indicating my that my account would be credited and an additional email form Tess indicating that unfortunately the boots were now, after a long wait, was unavailable. I understood going into this boot, it was not anything suitable for heavy working. However just from three weeks of causal house improvements the boot's heal stitching ripped apart on both boots. I was upset that the quality of these is far below that of The Originals. I will say though the leather itself has remained in good condition and cleans nicely. However its construction deserves the two stars. I recommend buying a Dr. Marten boot on the more expensive side, at least those do not break in under a month.
These were very good, very solidly made, actually comfortable too. I used to have a pair of docs similar to these with this amazing cushioning inside that were the best pair of shoes I owned... Have been looking for a suitable replacement ever since those shoes needed retiring (wore them into oblivion). These have slightly less padding on the inside but are much more comfortable than other pairs of docs I've tried so I'm quite pleased if still sad I can't find the exact same pair I used to have. Only thing I wish was different on these was that the top two rivets for lacing were hooks instead--makes it so much easier to get these on and off, as it is I have to fuss around with the laces for five minutes to get them on and off properly.
always love my dr. martens. these are my third pair, and my first two were a now discontinued item so i was nervous to go with something different but honestly i think i love these even more. if you can, try on your docs in person before buying! i go with a bigger size in them than most other shoes which took some time to figure out. barely took any breaking in. can’t wait to get a pair for fun, since these are primarily for work.
Other reviews said these run really large, but I didn't find that to be the case. I am usually a 9 with wide-ish feet. I always get 9s in docs, and they're roomy, but 8s are too narrow for me. This one followed suit, and fit similar to the other two pairs of docs I currently have. But they are pretty stiff the first few wears, and the foot bed is also kind of hard. I bought the doc brand inserts to add a little more cushion to the soles and that made a HUGE difference. I left the original soles in, and just put the doc inserts on top, and these are pretty comfortable now. I will say that the way this leather is, any bump or scratch or nick WILL leave a mark. I think it's the style, for them to get "weathered" and have that distressed look. But if you want a more ... MoreOther reviews said these run really large, but I didn't find that to be the case. Also, they aren't really a feminine boot - they are, like most docs, on the bigger/clunkier side - but I happen to like that style and think they look really nice, and are $60 cheaper than most other docs!
