I have been wearing docs for the last 30+ years and have seen a huge difference in quality, especially the ones made in China. These were made in England and almost double the price. I hope I won't be disappointed. Docs are always comfortable and look good.

I’m a large 11 / small 12 (G width) shoe size and I bought your size 11 online after trying a 1461 black pair (made in england) in your Manchester store. They fitted well but the store didn’t have the colour I wanted in stock, hence I ordered an Ox blood coloured pair online. Once they arrived through the post I tried them on and they fit reasonably okay but not as well as the black examples I tried on initially in your store.Immediately below the laces there is an excess of leather upper material that puckers once the laces are tied, unlike the black pair .Having said all this, I’m still fairly happy with them but a bit disillusioned about the supposed quality of craftsmanship for a pair of hand made shoes of that price.I have numerous pairs of Grensons and a ... MoreI’m a large 11 / small 12 (G width) shoe size and I bought your size 11 online after trying a 1461 black pair (made in england) in your Manchester store. It has taken several weeks for me to soften the leather and break these in but it has been so worth it. The profile of these MiE shoes is lower than other 1461s and so suits me and my walking style much better. The shoe itself is also cut lower and so sits just like the original. They look fantastic! I wear them daily and they just get comfier and comfier. I sincerely hope, when the time comes, that a suitable replacement sole is obtainable for resole - this specific type at this profile. Given the cost of these shoes they should be a shoe for life. Only time will tell...
This is my second order from yourself, and my husband and I are longtime wearers of DM’s.I was a little disappointed however, as the stitching on both shoes aren’t very good, and I would have thought this would have been picked up during the quality control process. My husband only wears the Made In England shoes/boots and was unhappy with these this time…they were a birthday present. They’re a lot of money and we both feel that due to the stitching, they are a bit of a disappointment I’m afraid to say. I have attached photos for your reference.Kind regardsLisa Poulton
I’ve worn these shoes off and on since the mid 80’s. I think the quality of the MIE is actually superior to anything I’ve ever purchased recently or in the past. The aesthetic is similar to the older shoes but the brown tint to the sole is new to me. Price point seems fair(ish). Curious to see how they wear over time.
My First DM boots aged 11 in 1974 (for school) I bought DM boots (made abroad) about 10 years ago (2010) but I decided to splash out on a pair of UK made oxblood 1461 shoes and the quality is in a league of its own, noticeably far superior to my earlier boots from abroad and in my opinion definitely worth the extra money to own “the real thing” I must admit the TV documentary “made In Britain” influenced me too! I’m over the moon with them! I bought a pair of UK made 1460 boots too which are of equal quality. Classic style never goes out of fashion!!!
I had a pair of these shoes in black when I was attending college ages ago, and thought it was time to treat myself to a new pair. They're not only stylish, but very well constructed. My advice to newly interested folks looking for a pair of Docs would be to go into a store, and try on a pair before purchasing them online. I'm a US size 10, and this translates into size 9 for British footwear. They're stiff at first, and you'll need at least 5 or 6 hours of walking around in them until they loosen & conform to the shape of your feet. One more thing, try and buy the Made in England brand. Yes, they do cost more, but the quality of the leather, soles & workmanship make it all worth it. These shoes should last you for years.
These are my first pair of vintage DM shoes and they are tremendous.I have a pair of Made in England boots (Oxblood/Harris Tweed) and had to order those a size up so I did the same for these shoes, it was the right move. The UK12 that I take for most of my other standard 1460/1490 Docs would have been too small in these. The UK13 may be about a quarter size too big for me but after adding a gel insole they fit perfectly.Comfort-wise I’ve had no problems so far. Wore them around town for a few hours and there was no sign of any blisters, but plenty of admiring glances! All in all a great purchase.
Beautifully made, well fitting shoes. My friends bought me a pair for my birthday and I ended up returning them for a smaller size. In the process I accidentally ordered the 1461 smooth leather and I can say having returned them for the original vintage 1461 that they do not compare at all. The vintage doc martens have a better shape and colour and the soles, lacing and stitching are better. They're a pain to break in but that's expected with such beautiful, robust leather. Definitely recommend the vintage 1461 over any other pair but buy yourself a pack of blister plasters at the same time while you break them in. They fit true to length but are a wide fitting shoe. I'm a 6.5 but normally have to size up because my feet are wide, but with docs the 7s are too big, ... MoreBeautifully made, well fitting shoes.
