A good backup/safety latch for our freezer.

Even though at it's heart this is a cheap plastic latch, it has served a valuable role for us on our standup freezer. Before this latch, several family members inadvertently left the freezer door slightly ajar. Either by slamming so it would bounce open an inch, or just not quite closing it to the point where the magnets would take over. Over the past 5 years, I'm sure we've lost several hundred if not thousands of dollars on thawed food. The last time that happened I searched everywhere for a simple latch that could be applied to the door as a backup to the magnetic latch. Once I came upon this latch I knew it would work. But I will say that the double-stick tape the manufacturer uses is pretty weak. That's why I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5. It only lasted a few days before the long portion fell off of the freezer. Luckily I had some leftover 3M pads that I got with a dash cam I purchased. They ended up being the perfect size to fit the latch. Now it's been 2 weeks and the latch clicks in place every time, whether we close the door softly or slam it. Just keep in mind that you might have to replace the double-stick tape. And it is plastic, so if you bend it too far it might break! I bought an extra just in case.

The latch is easy to install on the fridge and keeps the door locked. It isn't aesthetically pleasing on the fridge, but are any latches? The plastic is thin and after only a month of use I can't tell how long it will last. I hadn't heard of this brand before. I would use their products again. Our smart dog has learned to open the refrigerator and has raided it on several occasions. So we decided to use baby proofing to keep him out and ordered these latches. My fridge is white and I didn't realize at the time that these are silver colored. This was a disappointment. However, since the dog also opens our garbage and recycling bins, we used these latches on them instead and they work great! The trick is to install them very loosely, so one can open the lid with one hand while holding recyclables in the other. Now when the dog wants to lift the lid, the hook will engage in the latch and voila, the dog much to his dismay is shut out and can't remove anything.I think I will purchase another set - just to have some in reserve. The one criticisme I have is ... MoreOur smart dog has learned to open the refrigerator and has raided it on several occasions. Excellent RV Solution
14 November 2017

This little device is extremely valuable on newer RVs that come with these stupid residential fridges with little flip security latch. Because I forgot to SECURE the door before travel I've had 4 liquid disasters in 2 months ownership. The last was a burst new gallon of milk that flowed like a river after falling out. :-( This little latch holds her shut even when I forget to put the manual latch in place. No telling the frustration and loss it's saved already. Would give 5* but it's really made of cheap plastic that I expect to fail in a year or so. Should be 4.5*. Still well worth the $$$.

Good for a While
28 July 2018

I like the concept of this product, something to latch onto the fridge door to prevent it from being easily opened, especially by toddler hands. I was not even aware of this product beforehand. It is easy to apply to the refrigerator (and according to the packaging it can be used on other products that don't heat, but we chose the fridge as that is a major concern of mine). It did work for a little while, but shortly after (maybe 2-3 weeks) it fell off and was not secure anymore. I was disappointed in the adhesive, I wouldn't recommend. Maybe good for a couple of weeks if you have guests with small children. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Heavy duty and perfect for the job!
29 August 2018

We got this because our top freezer door of our fridge/freezer would always pop open when we close the fridge door it was so annoying. So we put this latch on and it works a treat! Even closing the freezer we dont have to worry it is shut properly because the latch catches it. Perfect little tool with a big difference!

My 3 year olds broke through two of them
27 October 2015

If you have the sort of child who doesn't actually need to have this kind of safety measure, then this will do the trick and might confuse the adults in the house. However, I have two very determined 3 year old and two fridges. My boy broke one latch within less than 24 hours by meticulously peeling at the backing when I wasn't looking. The second latch has stayed on the fridge, however, I've found that it's useless as the fridge door isn't flush with the side of the fridge. It worked on that one for about a day but it didn't take long for it to relax a bit and the kiddies can now open it at will. More smashed eggs to clean up :(

Sleek, easy to use, and works great!!!!!
19 January 2013

This product works great and does the job. My 1 1/2 year old was constantly getting in the fridge and driving my wife nuts. Thankfully I came across these locks and our lives have been great ever since. We have 5 children and everyone down to my 3 year old can use them with no problem (which is a good thing). Another great feature of the locks is that they look like they're actually part of the refrigerator. The blend in very nicely with the stainless steel appliance. I would definitely recommend buying this for anyone who doesn't want to have to guard their refrigerator.

simple but needs help
17 February 2016

This lock couldn't be simplier..but..it has a bad flaw..it is attached with weak double sided tape. Within one day it had pulled off the fridge. Most fridges have the door stick out beyond the side of the fridge by a little bit. So even if the handle breaks you can open the door. This means the locks longer piece is pulled at an angle away from the fridge side. So the tape fails right away. I used my own 3M Super strong double sided tape to re-attach the long piece. It also didn't hold up long. But...the idea was to train my 20 month old that he couldn't open the door. And keeping an eye on this system means it has worked. So be aware..this can work..but the tape is weak...you will need more of your own.
