The plunge router is a natural extension to using a Dremel tool. It takes a good job to a professional finish. The only thing I would say about the accessory is the inch/millimetre measure devise doesn't really help and is inaccurate - I don't rely on it.

This works fine for what it is. It's really disappointing to see that so many people bought this expecting so much. If you aren't smart enough to understand that you're gonna need an actual router to cut heavy duty projects, you should probably find a new hobby. Please stop blaming the tool for the operator's lack of intelligence.

Awesome jig for a Dremel or like tool to be able to route slots adequately. It is of adequate value and allows many options for routing. I will be using it on repairing musical instruments.

This is a well made piece of gear BUT it is a little too much for a Dremel tool. The reason I say this is most of us use a Dremel or Moto tool for small / precise work, and this particular base is large enough to use w/ most 1/4" routers. I am NOT saying this base will adapt to 1/4" routers but I am saying that it is as large as most router bases. There are smaller / more compact Dremel bases available but they are 4-5 times the cost so be aware of the project(s) that you have in mind, and if you are working on VERY small, and precise pieces... you may want to look around for th smaller bases. Without measuring the base I have is about 6"x4". The springs are sturdy, and the clamp is positive. The smooth working base is suitable for the purpose, and I do believe that this accessory will last as long (or longer) than most Dremel "moto" tools so take that as a plus. I will be buying the smaller sized base available from Stew Mac BUT I am happy to have this base as another tool in the box. I give it a 5 star for what it is.
Routers...are...expensive. We all know this, and it's tricky to justify the cost for a couple projects. Enter the plunge router attachment for your trusty Dremel. And anyone who owns a Dremel rotaty tool understands they have no torque, and rely strictly on speed. With that said, if you plan to attack project with a hard wood species, you're gonna be greatly disappointed with this product. If you got some art type projects, using soft wood, or need small details routed out, this will work for you. If you're facing a project like I am, and converting 45 year old oak cabinets into pull-out shelving, this is not going to cut it, literally. Now, I didn't attempt to do this, but, looking at the plastic frame, and the metal screws for adjusting and securing...It doesn't ... MoreRouters...are...expensive. Now, I didn't attempt to do this, but, looking at the plastic frame, and the metal screws for adjusting and securing...It doesn't take a genius to know that it simply wont work. However, I have used it to lightly trim an edge, smooth softer wood, even did some countersinking, and it worked great. Using this with your rotary with anything very harsh is going to end badly, and cost you more breaking bits, and unnecessary wear and tear.Bottom line, if you are questioning your tool's capability, and it seems like a bad idea...you may well be right.
Sad thing is that with a little more design effort, it would have worked. I have used Dremel tools for years, and am disappointed that this thing is so badly designed.I understand this is not a heavy duty item that a professional in the construction or woodworking industry would use, but that does not mean that it should not be functional for light use. The main difficulty is that when a depth is set, you are not accurately or reliably setting the depth you want because even after the upper part is locked to the base, there is slop in the setting. The bit is held at a slight angle, and to make it truly vertical, the user has to maintain downward pressure on the side of the device opposite the adjustment knob. I really tried to make it work. Don't waste your money. ... MoreSad thing is that with a little more design effort, it would have worked. Its made of too much plastic. The height adjustment rod should be metal at the very least. Also, only one side locks down the height adjustment. The other side then is allowed to move slightly if you hold on with both hands as instructed. This is better than having nothing so long as you're working a small area. You can't get more than a few inches away from any straight edge of your project. So if you're trying to work the center area of a a 1 x 12 x 24 you can only reach the short sides. This means you're free handing all your other straight edges too far from the edge for the guide to slide on. And as for making circles you are extremely limited. If you're thinking small you may like it. I didn't and wouldn't buy it again. I need something a little more ... MoreIts made of too much plastic. I need something a little more substantial and sadly there doesn't seem to be much until you move up into a standard router - but that's overkill for small or medium projects. Uhg...
I bought this thinking great. But, after the 1st use I found nothing but problems. The depth setting are difficult to set up( if you can even set them) the springs are to tight & long so the plunger doesnt even bottom out. Then if you take more that a 1/16 cut your over working your dremel. I found that if you take the spring on the side that dont turn its easier to compress. Plus it has no way of dust collection. Dremel didnt think it thru when the designed this
I bought this a few months ago at my local store, and just had a chance to use it today. It seemed like a great deal. I planned to use it to do inlay work. The spring is too strong, the depth stop is inaccurate, and inconsistent, and it is just a rather crude tool. Good idea, but it is all plastic, and pretty sloppy. I should have known, you get what you pay for. It is a nice try, but pretty much useless. Do they think someone is going to use their dremel tool to do heavy duty routing? It is only good for close work, which requires precision...thats not what this is.
don't waste your money. This thing is not good.1. It has a measuring device, but it is plastic and not actually affixed to the base, it moves up and down so you can't get any accuracy out of it. It also isn't very highly graduated, with only .100" marks and mm2. since it is plastic and the tolerances are loose, you set it, tighten the handle and when you let go the other side drops and it doesn't hold the router perpendicular to the base3. The circle cutter attachment uses a brad that is only 1/8" longer than the piece it goes into, so it falls out of the wood before you can make a complete circle4. The hardware is loose fitting and unscrews itself as you try to work. You will lose the nuts and wing bolts no doubt5. it has an opening to push the lock, to ... Moredon't waste your money. You might as well take it out of the base to change the bit, but when you do you have to put the threaded nose piece on or the 2 halves just push apart and it therefor doesn't lockIf you hope to do anything precise, buy a metal one ( I won't name companies but a few make them)
