DOES NOT INCLUDE BATTERY AS STATED. It clearly states on the add page that the rechargeable battery is included in the single unit. I even made an inquiry to DYMO concerning it and in their email to me they stated that indeed it came with a rechargeable battery whether bought as a single or in the kit. I ordered mine from Staples and the shipping box had a battery warning label on it, but when I opened the unit there was NO BATTERY nor charger. So if you are expecting to get a battery with the single unit you will be disappointed. Buy the kit instead.

DYMO. Synonymous with Rolls-Royce. My old one lasted 18 years of very rough industrial use. Retired now so I opted for a more moderate model of lesser cost. Its great, I still endorse DYMO products. This is the best of the best, field tested and abused. Was still working until an unnamed party tried to make it run on gasoline. My Fluke didn't survive either. Unnamed party banished in shame and forced to walk endless circles in the salt flats! Meanwhile my new DYMO RHINO 4200 is living the cushy life indoors and pampered. Seriously, if you need label make this is the one. Different types and kinds of labels for any need.

Due to a bad design, the unit will ALWAYS be underpowered. In order to register a full battery it needs a battery at a minimum of 8V but with 6 rechargeable batteries, you can't get more than 7.2V (1.2V x 6 batteries). At 7.35v the unit says the batteries are dead and prints very poorly. The only solution is to constantly change out the batties with ONLY non-rechargeable alkaline batteries or possibly use Li-ion batteries that could provide the full 1.5V per battery giving the needed overall 9V. Overall not a great design, and could have been designed better and with more power resilience.Further, when you try to call them about this issue, they just send out a new unit that has the exact same issues.

This label maker is exactly what I wanted for my production needs. We currently have a Brother P-Touch PT-D400AD, but I wanted something different for my needs. I let the wire harness specialist keep the Brother P-Touch PT-D400AD, while I use the "Rhino". It's better for my set up.
For the price I paid, $57, the 4200 performs very well. The menu system works just fine, and is perfectly understandable. Anyone that is confused by said menu system, should probably just buy some peel and stick labels, along with a few pencils. Some reviewers have complained about label print quality, Maybe they fiddled around with the print contrast setting.. don't know... all I can say is my print quality is just fine. My only gripe is that the cartridges are a pain to remove. All the reviews you find on this machine show how easy the cartridges snap right in... that part is true... they easily snap right in. The problem is getting them out. There's no eject button like on some more expensive models. I suppose with enough practice, it'll get easier. In the mean time, I worry that I might break one of the little arms that hold the cartridges in place. I don't know what the case is made of polycarbonate, I wouldn't worry... but I don't believe it is. The manual's directions for removal are: "Gently remove the label cartridge." ...that's it... I suppose it's good advice, and better than something like "Grab the cartridge like an ape and yank it out". I would like to have seen something a little better... maybe something that gently ejects the cartridge. Had it not been for my dislike of cartridge removal, I might have given this five stars, because for the money, it's a pretty good deal.
I bought this to help me label a massive cabling job. Then, I used it around the house to help organize at home. I really appreciate the backlit screen, as I work in darker environments quite often. The buttons are big and responsive. There are lots of different types of labels you can create with this device, and you can save up to 99 custom labels. This really helps speed things up if you find yourself using the same label, or label setups often. There are a good number of symbols you can use on your labels as well. I really like the rechargeable battery. It lasts a long time, and you can use the label maker while plugged in and charging the battery, if you need to. I have used the Rhino 5200 in the security industry for over a year now. I decided to get the 4200 for home and side jobs. Having both really helps me to help you decide which to get. 5200 Pros: Larger screen, good lithium rechargeable battery life, better ribbon cutter. 4200 Pros: way lighter weight, QWERTY keyboard!, Price! I use the label maker at work like crazy, especially in networking, im always traveling usually with the labeler in a backpack. I really like the 5200 larger screen so you can see the entire label you are printing, the 4200 really needs to compact things or just get a larger screen because using the arrow up or down to see the entire label is my biggest complaint. I really like the 5200 larger screen so you can see the entire label you are printing, the 4200 really needs to compact things or just get a larger screen because using the arrow up or down to see the entire label is my biggest complaint. Besides that I really like the 4200 the most. It's more compact and much lighter weight which really helps a mobile tech. Also the qwerty keyboard allows me to type labels so much faster than on the 5200 which apart from weight is its greatest drawback. I do a lot of electronics so the first thing i did when I got the 4200 was build my own 18650 battery pack and solder it in. It may not be pretty but it fits tight and gives me twice the battery life and only cost $5. The expensive Rhino battery pack is 7.4v, 1500 mAh, my battery pack is 2800mAh. The bottom right spring is positive, the top right is negative. I had to easily modify the door with side cutters to allow for a little extra space to fit my battery. Instead of buying a charger, i just use a step down driver to lower 12v to 9V and a 5mm jack to plug it in. Rhino makes an excellent, very rugged product. Only issues with feeding i have had was with 1 bad ribbon and I go through ribbon packs like crazy so it has been very reliable for me. Next I will be gluing Neodymium magnets under the case so I can stick it on panels. I probably prefer the 4200 over the 5200.
I bought the kit about 2 months ago. Where I used to work we had a 5200 and I hated the non-qwerty keyboard. The 4200 has an easy-to-use qwerty keyboard and works well. I like having pre-defined labels for patch panels and patch cords. I prefer the cable wrap to a cable flag. The storage case has a bit if wasted space and I wish it was smaller, often times I throw it in my backpack when going from site-to-site and a smaller case would be preferred.
I've had this product for years and it has met every need of mine for labeling, especially for electrical work and wiring. Keep in mind that this is an industrial labeler specifically designed for contractor/electrician/networking work so it may not be the best for other uses. I love the QWERTY keyboard, and use it frequently to label wires, switches, panels, panel breakers, patch bays, and more. The built-in formats are extremely useful for this purpose. The wide selection of label materials, such as nylon, vinyl, and poly allow great flexibility for different uses, and high durability for the labels. For newer projects the heatshrink option is amazing. Make sure you use the correct type for your application. My only (minor) issue is that it can be battery hungry - when using AA alkalines make sure you remove them between uses. Does not really work with rechargeable AAs due to their lower voltage. Use the Dymo battery if you want rechargeable. I definitely recommend this for wire and electrical labeling! I'm submitting this review because as a long time user I feel that the other reviews here are not representative.
Overall, I really like this device. the "industrial" quality label tape sticks to everything i've tried. This tape is available from dymo, but not what you get with the unit.the cable labeling feature is tremendous, and is why i bought this unit. I have also used the barcode feature for tapes in the data center.another reviewer complained they could not use rechargeable batteries. I use Eneloop brand with success. However, the battery indicator always shows low even with fresh batteries.came here tonight looking for the manual, hoping for a secret feature to get at extended symbols - but apparently what you see is what you get. -1 star for that, the selection is pretty lame.I've had mine for about a year with light use, ive gone through about two rolls of ... MoreOverall, I really like this device. the "industrial" quality label tape sticks to everything i've tried.
