This was an interesting learning experience. I was split over whether to buy a more expensive printer than I could connect to over USB, or a cheaper one I had to type everything into. I have to say, simpler option fits my requirements better. I think the USBconnected printers, which also print larger traditionalsized labels rather than strips of tape, are better suited to businesses addressing envelopes etc. Theres only so much you can type onto one label, and factoring in the time cost of booting a computer etc against switching on a handheld unit, its actually faster for its niche. It would be nice if it could store a few labels and scroll through them itd also be nice if there was an option to wipe the display in one command. The labels I replaced didnt use clipart, so its not a major limitation. If I had bulk labels to do, I could still print them via a computer and a printing service.I have a lot of sorting out and organising to do, and handwriting each label, slowly so its legible, onto postit notes, cutting them to size and sellotaping them on so they stay put, is a right pain. This machine speeds all that up, and I have a nice clear label that not only I can read at speed, but thats clear to other people as well. Ive also been able to label the cupboards not all of them, just where things are that other people ask for Mugs, spoons, the fridge, and so on.The tapes do sometimes jam, and when they do, thats usually goodnight to the tape reel concerned, but Ive found this usually only happens when the reel is almost usedup anyway. The tapes are actually contain three tapes together The background tape with one side sticky, the backing layer which peels off, and the print layer, which gets heatbonded to the background, and is stored inside the tape cassette after its been used. This also means the tape wont go allblack etc if it gets heated, like normal thermal paper printers. Its interesting how small the actual print head is. Most of the tape reel is used for storing tape, and for dispensing it in a smooth reliable fashion.Theres a trick to peeling off the backing, BTW It splits along the middle, so bend one end of the tape widthwise, and a corner will lift off Grab that, and peel off that section entirely. Then turn the tape around and repeat the process for the other section.

A label maker is an organizational MUST HAVE and this brand/model is a great option for those new to labeling (oh the joy! I'm so excited for you!)! I already own a Brother brand labeler myself and bought this for a friend for Christmas. I was anxious to compare the two. Here's the skinny on this Dymo: - Cheaper than brother (both the unit itself and the tape cartridges) - Intuitive and easy to use - Love the QWERTY keyboard - Love that it has different outline, underline, text size and style options - LOVE that it doesn't waste NEARLY as much tape on the sides as my Brother model does (which can't be changed in settings). This is one of the major selling points for Dymo over Brother in my opinion. The tape cartirdges aren't cheap and when so much tape is wasted on either side of your text (which I usually just end up clipping off anyway) that really adds up! Hooray Dymo! The only thing that is lame about this particular model is that it only comes with ONE FONT. While the description is technically correct, I will say that it mislead me to believe that I would be getting multiple fonts when it told me there were 6 font styles. I have no idea what they think the difference is between 'font style' and 'text style' but to me a 'font style' is simply a different font and a 'text style' is referring to bold, italics etc. This feels very misleading and confusing and I am disappointed that there is only one font. Even 2 or 3 to choose from would be nice. That's where my Brother wins out. But that's the only area. Everything else about this labeler is fantastic! If I had to buy a new one for myself, I'd buy this one over the Brother in a heart beat. Hope this helps!

Been using label makers for 4 decades - craft containers, baking jars, plant tags, etc. Own many makes and my Brother was the go-to but the tapes got super expensive. So I tried the DYMO 160 and wish I'd owned one years ago! The tapes are affordable, and there are a variety of colors on ZORO and other sites to choose from. The best part is the split backing which makes it super easy to remove from the adhesive side. I use the Black on Clear for white containers, clear glass and plastic containers, etc. Has an auto-off that saves the batteries and packed with features. I've read reviews that complained about the sophisticated levels of options, but thats actually a feature that allows a compact tool to offer way more options than surface buttons would allow. This label maker doesn't have the bells and whistles of some that are available these days, but if you want to make simple, high quality labels that look way better than scrawling with a sharpie on a piece of masking tape, this item will work great for you.I just received it today, along with the included 10-foot spool of "silver glitter" label tape, and I printed about 30 labels for various things already. It's easy to figure out how to use it without looking online for instructions, especially if you've used a similar machine before. Various font sizes, two-line printing, a few built-in emojis, and you're off and printing. Various font sizes, two-line printing, a few built-in emojis, and you're off and printing. The adhesive on the label tape seems to be very high-quality and sticks well to everything I used the labels on, from plastic, to coated wires, to powder-coated and painted metal, and finished wood.Currently (April 15, 2022), Walmart has this item priced at less than half of what it costs on Amazon and I'm glad I shopped around before I purchased it there. It's a good product with plenty of options available for label tape colors, and is all you need if you don't want to change the world with your label-making skills. Some machines have more capability than this one, but do you really need all that? I don't.
I had no troubles with this label maker. Easily found, downloaded, printed the user manual, installed batteries and label cartridge. Registering was easy as well (FYI the serial number is on a small label inside the cartridge cover). I was making labels within 10 minutes. I have been using it to organize my kitchen dry food containers which was getting to be a mess.I wish the screen was back lit but, I don't see myself printing labels in the dark. Also I wish it came with a 120v adapter instead of having to get one from a third party. This is my first purchase of a label maker of this type, only used the old embossing type before and I am happy with it (so far).
I have had this label maker for a couple of years now and I did not experience any of the problems others mention. The one issue I have run into is that mine seems to drain the battery when not in use. I am keeping a small battery box in my case and remove the batteries each time after use.I love it that I don’t need a computer or phone to use it! A little tedious, almost like texting in the olden days with just numeric keys, but I think of that as a plus. Brings a smile to my face every time.I highly recommend it for light use. But if you need volume, get something with a more modern interface.
This is my second time buying a Dymo160 label maker. My first one stopped working unexpectedly; it would continually turn off as soon as I would hit print. I assumed that the device had just run its course and ordered another one to replace it. The new one refuses to print anything. Every time I hit print the error code “label jam” appears. I have reset the device, changed the batteries, changed the label paper, twisted every little knob I’ve been told to turn, and nothing has worked. I’ve tried multiple times with multiple label tape, all dymo approved, and nothing has worked. I’m so beyond frustrated with this product.
Garbage for me I bought one that worked well for a while was great at the time no issues. Then it wouldn't load the labels blamed myself maybe not using it for while caused it to corrode or something. So I bought another one, straight out of the box doesn't work. Buttons don't clock or press in can't get past the language select stage. So bad. I bought some special permanent vinyl labels which weren't cheap. Another waste of money. Now I have two units and label cartridges just plastic waste
This is one of the best products of any type that I've ever owned. It is beautifully designed, easy to use and understand. I was able to figure out all the functions without looking at the user manual. It works perfectly ever time I use it. One of very few products I own that never causes problems or frustration when I use it. Thank you Dymo!
