100T or LabelManager? LetraTag or D1?

We have both a Dymo LetraTag 100T and a Dymo LabelManager. They're both independent keyboard units than run on batteries and take Dymo tapes. However, they take different kinds. The LabelManager takes D1 and IND tapes. Each has their advantages. To make a label, the 100T desktop version is more convenient. You can store up to 9 frequently used scripts, and you can clear the entry currently displayed. Surprisingly, with LabelManager, you must backspace repeatedly to make a new entry. However, the output of D1 labels from the LabelManager is more professional. If you write lower case, it produces 'true descenders', whereas with labels from the 100T, letters like "p" and "y" will share their baseline with letters like "e" and "i", like the dot-matrix printers of old. ... MoreWe have both a Dymo LetraTag 100T and a Dymo LabelManager. The 100T uses only 4 AA batteries, while the LabelManager is hungry at 6 AAA. It's hard to source a power adaptor for the LabelManager, which requires 2A. However, it *is* possible to use an AC adaptor, whereas the 100T has no port. (There's a blank spot where it was obviously designed-for at one stage). Although alkaline batteries are recommended, so far I've been able to use rechargeables successfully. Media diversity is the other consideration. I bought this second Dymo labeller because I wanted to mark clothes. For Dymo, only the LetraTag series has iron-on tape. You can also choose paper rather than plastic tape with LetraTag, and there are roughly five plastic colour choices (if you order them in). Both LetraTag and D1 offer clear tape, but only D1 offers 'white on clear', which is great for labelling dark items. D1 however have a greater diversity of *width* - Officeworks stock widths less than 12 mm. With LetraTag, you get just 12 mm. Dymo offer computer-connectable printers that will accept D1 media, so if you want both worlds for the D1 media and (presumed) label design quality, and flexibility, that's another option. For fabric marking, Brother has an alternative option that can work from a separate device (smartphone via Bluetooth) or from its nice but more expensive standalone unit. However, reviews I've read there on this site suggest that there is a greater tape wastage for lead-in (about 'an inch').

I bought this as a Christmas present (2021), relying on reviews and info from this site and others, on the basis it could be used with a A/C adapter. I also bought a A/C adapter that the seller said was supposed to work with this unit. My LT 100T Plus DOES NOT have a connection to use a cord. You MUST use batteries. I don't know what year model the reviewer had who said they used a power cord with this model, or if they in fact didn't have this same model. But this one is batteries only. The fact it comes in a sealed package, that you have to destroy to get the unit out, I'm not sure if Walmart will accept a return. Just thought I would let others know the misinformation about this unit before they make the same mistake I did. They made me give this a star rating ... MoreI bought this as a Christmas present (2021), relying on reviews and info from this site and others, on the basis it could be used with a A/C adapter. I have had my label maker for about a decade now and am label obsessed, so it gets a lot of use and is still going strong. My teenager, who will be moving out soon, wants a label maker and is requesting this specific one after seeing the longevity and also having used it multiple times. I really like that you can get clear labels in addition to the regular ones. My only complaint is that it has often been difficult to get it to trim off the label which was right from the get go so not a dulling effect over time from wear of use. I do wish it was capable of making wider/different-sized labels though. Otherwise I love this machine, and it has served its purpose time and time again with no sign of slowing down at all.

Great while it lasts

I bought one of these about 4 years ago from Walmart (in store) and I have to say I loved it! Essy to learn and use, I was in label printing bliss. I was only disappointed at two minor things: the instructions claimed it had a built in jack for a DC adapter (sold separately) and a cutter cleaning tool. It had neither. But no matter, I was pleased as punch. Then about 9 months later it was all over. Suddenly and without warning the LCD display only showed a few solid lines. The device would still work if only you could see what you were doing. This rendered the label maker useless. This is the second Dymo Label Maker that has done this but the other one was a smaller hand held model. Perhaps they've improved this model in the years since my purchase. But myself, I no longer trust in the brand. If i buy another Dymo label maker, it will be the embossing type. Certainly none with an LCD display.

I'm doing this review after a months usage and I'd have to say this little gadget is fantastic. It allows me to organize things around the house and my office with ease. Using the device is very intuitive and I never had to read any instructions to figure everything out. Things are laid out pretty straightforward and if you tinker with it, you'll get the hang of it. For the price (I paid $23) it's a great gadget to have. The kids are now using it to tag everything they have for school and their toys and they love it. For refills, the Dymo branded refills are great and of high quality but the price could be better. I actually got the refill 7-pack from Label Kingdom and they work great! They cut nice and have almost the same quality as the Dymo ones. Here's the link ... MoreI'm doing this review after a months usage and I'd have to say this little gadget is fantastic. Incredibly useful

We’ve used this so much in the month that we’ve had it, we’ve already used the two cartridges of labels that come with the label maker. It’s really very handy. You can adjust the size of the letters from extra small to extra large, you can add numbers, as well as borders to enhance the look of the label. It’s been invaluable for canning from our garden. We used to use labels that would disintegrate when any water got near them. Now we can label the jars and easily see what’s in it. The label maker ships with one cartridge of clear labels and one cartridge of white labels. Black ink is the only color it can print. Needs a storage case but is still great!
25 July 2024

I've had this for years and still love it to this day. I just wish that it had come with a storage case of some sort to prevent accidental damage and dust accumulation when not in use. If it had come with a case or one could be bought separately, I would have given this five stars. It is really annoying to me that it does not have one or one available that I can find. I also like that it can be powered by 4 AA batteries or by a universal power cord (if you happen to have one, does not come with one). There are multiple font sizes and formatting options. It prints really nice looking labels.

So, I had a different version of a DYMO labeler that was maybe 15 years old that didn't see much use. While technically operational, the LCD screen on it went out. I wasn't terribly impressed by that, so when it came time to purchase a new labeler, I checked out brands (mainly, one brand) other than DYMO. However, their comparable labeler was more expensive, and their replacement tape was MUCH more expensive (in terms of cost per linear foot). Ergo, it was back to DYMO and this model, which had reasonable reviews. PROS for this unit: good feature set for the price; accessibility of the options is fairly intuitive through the menus. I consider this last one to be an inconvenience at this point but definitely worth mentioning. It's probably not enough of an issue to get me to send the unit back, but we'll see. So in short, this unit seems to be an OK value, but springing to buy the competitor's product might result in a more satisfying experience.

The Dymo LetraTag creates professional looking labels in literally seconds. Clear and easy to read with so many options of fonts, sizes, borders, and little images you can add. So many that you may need to refer to the detailed instructions a few times until you're comfortable with all it can do. The QWERTY keyboard is user friendly, buttons are soft and easy to press, and responsive to typing. Labels are simple to insert, just pop in the cartridge and you're ready to go, no feeding or fighting with holes to line up. The finished label cuts easily with the large side button and adheres well on all the surfaces I tried, a little tricky getting the paper backing off though.
