The lack of retractable cord is a pain, but I do appreciate the extra long cord. The vacuum puts out a ton of heat, and could heat a small room on its own! The red power button is two inches from the red canister release button, and I’m constantly accidentally releasing the canister instead of turning off the Vacuum - I wish the canister button wasn’t red. I hate the “lean and use” design, and wish there was just a foot pedal that reclined the vacuum for use. You have to push down and back pretty firmly to release it, and it always sounds like it’s on the verge of breaking. I wish the wheels had a brake or locking mechanism for when I vacuum stairs. It does not stay put where you park it, and when you’re using the hose for your steps, the vacuum is constantly rolling and tipping. Lastly, the long extension tube - I have a love/hate relationship with this. It’s amazing to be able to vacuum the ceiling cobwebs without having to lift the vacuum - so so awesome. That being said, when you’re using it on the floor or steps, it’s just awkward and crimps the hose really badly. And it’s tough to put it back in place on the vacuum - it takes quite a bit of jiggling and fiddling to lock it back in its mount. So there you go. The good and the bad. Overall I am so thrilled with the power of my Dyson Animal Ball 2, and the huge help it provides for our dust allergies and carpet beetles. It’s a wonderful tool and I am so happy that I purchased it. All the other kinks are things I am happy to deal with, and I highly recommend this product.

Brush won’t spin
29 January 2023

We bought this vacuum from Costco at a great deal and was excited to replace my 9 year old Dyson animal (that was still going strong, but smelled). Right out of the box noticed it was a little smaller than my vacuum and the cord was shorted. 5 seconds into vacuuming my medium pile carpet the roller head stops spinning. I would have to turn the brush head button on and off every 6-10 seconds to get it to start spinning again. Thought it was a defect so we took it back to Costco and exchanged for the same vacuum, same problem! Not sure if it’s a model design for Costco with little to no quality control or this model is just poorly designed and built. It worked great on my hardwood, but who needs that much suction on wood?? Even on my low pile stairs the head would not keep spinning. Disappointed in Dyson for releasing such an inferior product. Took it back again today and purchased the Animal 3 from another store, took it for a spin and love it so far. But, what is up with your hose? I can’t believe that in the 8 years from my first Dyson to my newest you haven’t fixed the most frustrating feature of your vacuums, the stiff hose that is almost useless unless you can coheres a small child to sit on the vacuum so you can stretch the hose out. The wand is waaay to long to be functional for many of the attachments. Maybe a future design consideration.

Difficult to push and the attachment is useless

I wanted to like this vacuum so badly but unfortunately it was just poorly designed. If you want a vacuum that has a functional detachment and can be used on carpet without pulling muscles, this is not it. First off, It does do a great job cleaning the carpet which is probably how it garnered such good reviews. However, that positive aspect is rendered moot when you can’t even use the vacuum. For example, the auto adjustment for carpet to hard floor that it boasts, hardly works. Since you can’t adjust the height settings on your own, it sticks way too far down on most carpet and thus is impossible to push around. It did not move with ease on any carpet and needed to be pushed with two arms just to keep it moving. It has two feet of hard plastic connected to the hose so it doesn’t bend and is rendered unusable unless you want to get corners on a 6 foot ceiling. Sure, you can use it to vacuum little spaces, if you’re willing to stand three feet away from them and have no mobility or dexterity with the vacuum. I hate to be negative but I don’t want others to get swooned by the design or positive reviews like I did.

We used to buy a new upright vacuum every year until our first Dyson Animal. It was great and lasted over 10 years until the hose got some small holes. We decided to buy the latest Dyson Animal Ball. We immediately loved the maneuverability, but its poor quality and design showed through quickly. It takes two hands and a foot to hold it steady and lock it in its upright position and even then it often takes multiple tries to make it stand on its own. The on/off switch also requires a forceful push and here too we often have to press twice to achieve the desired on/off. The material quality or design of the plastic up right support that holds the handle is poor and broke within a year. We were able to order a replacement. Lastly, the dust bin is just too small. It’s supposed to be for households with animals and thus you’d expect to be able to vacuum up quite a bite of shedded fur. We have to empty the bin multiple times to vacuum the whole house or fur gets stuck in the upper part of the bin and you have to take the whole thing apart to get all the debris out. As much as I want to like this vacuum I’m not really happy with it and I feel like the flaws in design had to have been noticed but they ignored them. Sadly this Dyson is not worth the high price tag.

Purchased this D.Ball 5 months ago and am very disappointed. I purchased this because we have two large dogs that although short haired shed a lot. I needed something that would really work on pet hair. While the suction is incredible in that regard, especially compared to my old upright (with bag), I am constantly having to clean out the D.Ball dust canister and the clean up is not very enjoyable, especially for me as an asthmatic. Even while wearing a mask. When I first started using the D.Ball I could not detect dust in the air while in use. However, I started noticing in later use that I could detect dust in the air which meant that somewhere the dust was leaking out of the canister. So I had to go back to wearing a mask while vacuuming. The last two times I used the D.Ball even before the canister hit max fill the vacuum would stall and I would have to restart! Of note: I religiously cleaned the dust canister and all of the filters after each use. Notwithstanding, while the suction is great the D.Ball is only good on low pile rugs with the beater brush. The suction with beater brush is too much for a shag rug, and changing it to just suction alone (which was recommended in the instructions) does not cut it for shag. As another reviewer mentioned, the attachments with the hose are too difficult to use on steps. I'm glad I kept my old vacuum as backup. I will use the D.Ball until it dies, but would not buy another Dyson.

My old Dyson DC25 finally gave up after 14 years of dedicated service, so rather than try and get it repaired I figured it was time to get a replacement. I looked at all the usual suspects, and given that I already have a perfectly functional Dyson handled, I didn’t want another cordless one. In the end I decided to go for as close-a-replacement as I could and settled on the Dyson Animal Multifloor. My only complaint so far is the sheer amount of packaging this thing consumes. It would be far more efficient to just ship it fully built in one single box with large air bags around it. Anyway, I digress…It does go together easily, and when I first switched it on and put it on low pile carpet/deep clean mode, I was gobsmacked at just how much suction power this thing ... MoreMy old Dyson DC25 finally gave up after 14 years of dedicated service, so rather than try and get it repaired I figured it was time to get a replacement. Anyway, I digress…It does go together easily, and when I first switched it on and put it on low pile carpet/deep clean mode, I was gobsmacked at just how much suction power this thing had! Proper workout pushing this thing around but switch to medium pile and it’s like my old one in terms of effort. My house is reasonably small but mostly carpet, but even then there was around an inch of dust and other unseen mess in the dust collector that my other vacuum hadn’t been picking up. I know that any new modern vacuum would have been an improvement but still…In terms of longevity time will tell, people complain of blockages, but then those people probably don’t clean their filters and maintain their device. I found it perfectly steady enough, when using the wand, and the various attachments make light work of dusting and stairs. If like me you want a corded vacuum that performs, you can’t really go too far wrong, and with Dyson’s reputable brand, build quality and customer service behind it, makes for a fairly safe bet.

Not bad but could be WAY, WAYYYY better

I bought this vacuum Jan of 2021 so I've been using it regularly for over a year and it has it's good points and very bad points (Mostly bad). The good is that the suction is still what I expect from Dyson as you can see in the pictures. We have a Siberian Huskie and a long haired cat that shed like crazy and it picks the hair up no problem. I had the purple animal Dyson before and it was perfect this one nope. The first complaint is the smell OMG. Used it once or twice after we got it and then it started smelling like vomit or some god awful smell. And no nothing like that was sucked up with it, it just came outta no where and still does it to this day IT STINKS! We use it, clean it and bam IT'S BACKKK. Another major downfall is the fact the thing just does not ... MoreI bought this vacuum Jan of 2021 so I've been using it regularly for over a year and it has it's good points and very bad points (Mostly bad). And no nothing like that was sucked up with it, it just came outta no where and still does it to this day IT STINKS! We use it, clean it and bam IT'S BACKKK. Another major downfall is the fact the thing just does not like standing up. You push it up till you "hear" a click and let go and BAM on the floor it falls yeah NOT GOOD. Also trying to push it around while it's up right like putting it away or getting it out to use and it constantly unlocks it's self and you have to stop and push it back up till you "hear" the click and hope it stays. My purple one NEVER had this issue cause it had a peddle to push to unlock it. So why exactly did you go even cheaper and get rid of that feature? All about making money at the sacrafice of quality of course. It also feels like it so cheaply made it's going to break. Again NOTHING like my old one. Another down side is the hose is so STIFF as I've seen others say. You try to use it and BAM over falls the vacuum cleaner. Over and over and over again. It also should have had a bigger bin as well. Have to empty this thing more then you would a babies diaper. So between the STINK and the not being able to keep it locked and the extremely stiff hose as well as the small bin I have to give it 2 stars. And it's only getting 2 because of the suction other wise it would be 1! Oh I also forgot to mention the cord on this thing gets HOT. I reach down to move it out of the way and it is very warm. Just something else to be mindful of.

The Jury's out....

I have taken delivery today and conducted its maiden flight. It follows in a long line of Dyson 'ball' technology machines. Initial thoughts are it is both heavier and much less manoeuvrable than its predecessors. The ball does not seem to pivot as easily and on the hard floor sections skids, rather than corners nimbly as before. This pilot will do his best but it's not as agile by far. Secondly the brushes on the attachments are much softer than their predecessors and I can see them becoming misshapen and worn much more quickly, allowing the plastic to scuff the surfaces that you want a softer contact with. The cable is longer and thicker. Some may find this less manageable. It's one less socket change than before, but the cable does have a life of its own. The cable is longer and thicker. Some may find this less manageable. It's one less socket change than before, but the cable does have a life of its own. Then there is the pivot on the extending pipe. Why can this not be locked. When using up high, it just collapses at the joint. Turning it upside down stops this but then because the brush only fits one way and cannot be reversed, it is orientated at the wrong angle by 180 degrees. The joint has its uses in a tight space but you should be able to lock it straight. Yet to be convinced by the accessory clip that just seems to be in the way. I wish my old one had not died! Suction is excellent it must be said.
