Don’t buy this vacuum if anyone has hair in your home or pets. The hair gets all caught up in the roller and can’t be easily removed. It eventually breaks the head of the vacuum and need’s replaced. I’ve owned mine for 5 years now and have had to replace the head of the vacuum 4 times. So once a year. Yes they have paid to replace it but once the warranty expires you’ll be buying a new head for your vacuum. You would think that after all these years they would fix the problem with this. No they are still making it the same. Don’t purchase this vacuum .

The hose is quite long, but it can be a little awkward when using on stairs due to the awkwardness of the wheels and 'ball' mechanism when not on a more traditional flat surface, but this is easily manageable.Using the ball to get around takes a little getting used to, when so accustomed to traditional uprights, but you soon get used to it, and it's really great. It almost feels like flying! When on the standard or 'lower' power mode you'd barely know you're using it, and the 'max' power mode makes a huge difference, the suction power is VERY noticeable.Easy to empty, simply press the button to release the bin, push down a pin to open the compartment and then shake the dust free and away you go.My only complaint is that the construction of the 'bin' around the handle is a little flimsy. You can hear it squeak and shake around as you handle it, just feels like really flimsy low-quality build when compared to the rest of it overall. I guess I was hoping for something more sturdy for what is a high premium for a vacuum cleaner.Overall though, the thing is excellent, and having the 5 Year guarantee from Dyson direct as well is really helpful. Gives peace of mind for sure, makes it more of an investment. I just wish we had nice new carpets to go with it, aside from stains, they'd never be dirty!

Better than sliced bread!

I bought this vacuum for my sister who is really OCD about cleaning her home. She vacuumed her entire house with her old vacuum and then rec'd my surprise in the mail. She was so tickled about finally owning a Dyson, she vacuumed the whole house again. Much to her surprise and dismay the Dyson picked up way better than her old vacuum. She did the whole house again and the Dyson container was full. No wonder her allergies are killing her. Her old vacuum wasn't picking up the pollen and other particles that come in your house on your feet. She's breathing easier and feels whole knowing her new Dyson is nothing short of Amazing. Everyone should own a Dyson!

Cinetic Dyson Big Ball Animal 2 is the best vacuum ever produced
12 June 2019

As a custodian with 25-years of experience and having used virtually every vacuum on the market, I can say without reservation that the Cinetic Dyson Big Ball Animal 2 is the best vacuum ever produced. I'm sad to hear that Dyson is phasing out corded vacuums in favor of their stick vacuum V-series. It's just my opinion, but the Big Ball beats the new powerful V-11 by a mile on wall to wall carpeting. Yes, the Dyson V-11 can go where the Big Ball struggles under tough spots, such as dining room tables, beds and other furniture, since it doesn't lay flat. However, the ball makes the vacuum extremely maneuverable and versatile. Yes, the Dyson V-11 can go where the Big Ball struggles under tough spots, such as dining room tables, beds and other furniture, since it doesn't lay flat. However, the ball makes the vacuum extremely maneuverable and versatile. Nevertheless, the Big Ball features an extremely long hose, which allows you to do an entire flight of stairs, while the machine remains at the bottom. The hose, as well as a plethora of attachments will allow you to get under the tough spots mentioned above. Although the Big Ball is heavy, I would expect it to be considering the powerful motor and sturdy assembly. Removing and reconnecting the dirt canister is incredibly easy, yet strong enough to use as a carry handle. Ultimately, it's the cleaning performance that makes this vacuum remarkable and rise to the top of all vacuums on the market today. It cleans with one pass without leaving a trace of dirt or debris. It also cleans right up to the edge of a wall, which most other vacuums fail to accomplish. Since they are being phased out, closeout deals can be found on new machines (not refurb) for $290 to $350. That's half off the original sticker price. I strongly recommend that you buy one now, before they disappear. If you have a lot of carpet and demand flawless performance cleaning, this is the machine for you.

Excellent machine but let down by the tools
16 November 2018

I've been using my Dyson for 9 months. It's very quiet compared to any of my previous Dysons. I am very impressed with its suction on carpets and hard floors and it does a good job sucking up dirt and dust close to the skirting boards etc. It has no problem with larger items either. Sometimes it's suction is too good and even though you can turn the suction down, a few of my mats are almost impossible to clean without them being sucked up into the roller bar. It's very light to carry up and downstairs and can get further under furniture than my old Dyson. It's very manoeuvrable which makes it a joy to use. The button to switch the roller bar on and off is located near the on/off switch which is an excellent idea. The button to switch the roller bar on and off is located near the on/off switch which is an excellent idea. The design of the roller bar means that it rarely gets anything, like hair, wrapped around it, making the job of unclogging the roller redundant.Unfortunately, the dust canister is very hard to empty and clumps of hair get stuck at the top of it every time I empty it. The only solution to this is to take it apart and remove the hair by hand. Never had this problem before. Another negative are the tools and the extending hose. The hose is not that easy to extend, it feels like it's trying to twist out of my hand as I extend it. The crevice tool is a lot slimmer than my old one which makes it useful for getting into narrow places but I find it too long and therefore, uncomfortable to use for some jobs. The brush is only useful for high level cleans, like getting cobwebs off the ceiling, as it sits at the end of the long crevice tool and is extremely hard on your wrists using it on anything which is close to you, such as furniture or animal bedding. Never had this problem with previous models and I've always found the tools to be very user friendly until now. Unfortunately my old tools are not interchangeable with this new machine which is a disasppointment.Overall I am pleased with the performance of the machine but would not consider buying another one unless the tools are redesigned.

Heavy and Hard to use
1 March 2023

I have no idea why the Dyson ball gets great reviews. I hate the vacuum with all my heart! Yes, it has great suction. Yes it works well. YES it is HEAVY and YES it is HARD TO MANUVER! All my furniture now had dings and dents. It SUCKS the joy out of my heart every time I have to drag the heavy thing out of the garage! Also, it doesn't stay snaped upright, so I even have to drag its heavy hunk across the room when its not even on!

Strong Suction--Weak Bristles
19 February 2021

I purchased this vacuum in 2014. By 2020 the bristles from the brush were all gone, and so I needed to replace the brush head. It was so expensive, and within a month of putting on the new roller, the brush had lost a plastic part of it from the side, which caused dog hair to get stuck around the end and then burn up the engine! I was so mad! This is an awesome sucking vacuum, but when the bristles break off after 6 years, there is something wrong there. Furthermore, when the expensive replacement part only works for a few months, that is unacceptable. The only thing I can suggest to extend the life of the bristle/brush, thus extending the life of the vacuum, is to make sure that you turn off the brush when vacuuming non-carpet surfaces. That is the only thing that I can think of that would have deteriorated the bristles in 6 years. I have a few throw rugs, one large rug in the living room, and the rest of the house is tile or laminate. While I would often turn off the spinning brush when transitioning from carpet to tile, I did not always do so.

The Best Vacuum I have ever owned!
18 February 2023

This vacuum has surpassed my expectations! I was hesitant to buy it because it has bad reviews on the Dyson website but I can’t understand how it’s possible. I have owned Shark vacuums for the past 10 years and they have lasted but lose suction. I have only had the Dyson for a month so I can’t speak on longevity, but I am blown away by how well it cleans my carpet. I have a golden retriever and my other vacuum just wasn’t cleaning the hair very well. The Dyson has no problems getting all microscopic dirt and hair. Feels like my carpet is new again. I will definitely be sticking with this brand as long as the vacuum holds up over the years.

The best slim vacuum I have owned
2 August 2019

I have had MANY vacuums. With a large house, four dogs and six kids that are always dragging something in on the rugs from outside, I need a good vacuum. I have tried many vacuums, many different brands. Some worked well, others barely even picked up anything. When my last vacuum decided to kick the bucket after less then a year, I decided to try out the Dyson Slim Ball Animal. To say I was shocked at the amount of dirt it sucked up off my carpets would be an understatement. I was amazed and disgusted at the same time. Amazed that it worked so well, disgusted that all that dirt was being left behind by a vacuum that I honestly thought was pretty darn good. The only thing I found was when you release the handle to use the wand, I have a bit of a hard time to get it to slide back into its spot correctly. I like the maneuverability that it has and it glides easily over both carpet and floors. It's also not overly heavy if you need to pick it up to go upstairs/downstairs. So far the quality seems great and the performance for a smaller vacuum like this is fantastic. The only thing I cannot really comment on yet is longevity. I have only had the vacuum for a month and a half, but that being said its lasted longer already then some others I have had in the past. Overall I am very pleased with the vacuum and when this does give out, I will probably give another Dyson vacuum a shot as this has impressed me quite a bit.
