A Powerful Vacuum Missing a Key Feature

The dust cup is also easy enough to empty with a single hand.Unfortunately, the on/off mechanism is cumbersome enough that I’ve knocked of a star. You have to hold the trigger the entire time you vacuum, and since the unit is on the heavier side it can wear on your wrist and forearm. In addition, the shape of the vacuum doesn’t allow you to get a super shallow angle to vacuum under furniture so you may have to move your couch, chairs, etc. There is an attachment you can use to mitigate this, but it’s an extra step.

A significant upgrade over my Dyson V10

So what do l like over the V10 I’ve replaced. The power increase means my carpet cleans better; this feels as good as l remember from a main operated hoover, especially at full power. You can adjust the suction of the Motorbar, which is a really nice option however this makes it a little tougher to move the hoover back and forth. The Motorbar seems to do a better job of untangling trodden on carpets. The wand detaches to reveal a handy brush, which is great for a quick clean of window blinds for example. I also like the power adjusts upward/downwards automatically where there's more/less dirt, this is a fantastic feature. The battery is now sufficient to clean my 3 bedroom home. So lots of noticeable improvements over the V10.However, the wand developed a fault. ... MoreSo what do l like over the V10 I’ve replaced. The top plastic connector part of the wand became loose and so the metal part of the wand rotates as you're hoovering when it should remain fixed. Dyson supplied a new compatible wand however it's not the same wand that came with the V15. So the handy brush that reveals itself when you remove the wand is no longer compatible with the replacement wand. Not happy about that hence the 3 star review.

I’ve been doing my house and my dad’s house for a few weeks now and still looking good. The rest of my house is hard floor and the carbon fiber head with the “Fluffy Optics” is perfect. That little green light really does expose the stuff on the floor that you don’t normally see. Meanwhile, noticing the difference on the floor with every pass. Unlike the main carpet head though, this one does collect a bit of hair on the ends. The rest of the included parts are great for all the detail cleaning, but like most vacuums these days, you don’t get much space to store them. There are 2 spots on the wall mount, but only the skinny parts can clip there, and there is a piece to snap 2 to the main wand, but also, restricted to the smaller pieces. The crevice tool is interesting, with its own LED lighting the way into those dark areas, but it has air holes on the side that can’t be closed off when you want that full power at the end. This is also where I feel you need to get 1 more piece to make it perfect. Sold separately in their store, the extension hose makes using these small tools so much easier. Trying to lift the whole unit with the stiff attachment to dust a shelf is a bit difficult. Using it to clean a car in that confined space, even more so.When done with cleaning, emptying the container is pretty simple, provided you don’t have a bunch of dog hair now stuck in the grill. However, cleaning it is easy enough. The directions to do so are best shown through the app, but annoying as all the directions are videos with subtitles. No talking, just pointing directions. It would be so much better if right below these, they just give the whole transcript so I don’t have to sit through minutes of video just to find 1 simple thing.Battery life is all dependent on how you use it. On max power, 15 minutes at best, but leaving it as auto, you get about 45-60 minutes, pending how much it increases power from detection of particles. The auto adjusting of power always seems to be a couple seconds behind, but if you take your time, it works out. If you want to do it quickly and make sure it has the most power the whole time, boost gets it done, you only have 15 minutes though.Overall, I’m pretty impressed with the power of this vacuum. All the attachments, and there are plenty more online, really help you do what you want to get done. It is a bit big compared to some other cordless vacs, but I haven’t seen any compare in power.

Love this hoover! Don't be too put off the negative reviews!
30 March 2023

I bought this hoover a month ago, after doing some extensive research and reading a lot of reviews on cordless hoovers from all brands. Most reviews seemed to be negative, but I spoke to Dyson UK about a few questions I had, and eventually bit the bullet and decided to buy it.I'm glad the bad reviews didn't sway my decision, as I'm absolutely delighted with this hoover! It's brilliant at cleaning for a start, I thought my floors were clean, until I used this! The battery life is good and allows me to use the Auto setting and clean the entire house (3 bedrooms) in one charge. If you put it on the boost setting (which isn't necessary for standard cleans) it obviously doesn't last very long, but you'd only need the boost setting for really dirty areas I would say. If you put it on the boost setting (which isn't necessary for standard cleans) it obviously doesn't last very long, but you'd only need the boost setting for really dirty areas I would say. I think a lot of people may not read the full spec entirely as it does state that the run time is less for the boost function. The trigger is really light to hold in, I was dubious about having to hold the trigger, but I forget I'm pushing it in half the time as it's so easy to press and hold. The hoover itself is pretty light, I don't find that my arms hurt at all, and it's easy to lift to hoover stairs, for example (I am an able-bodied person, so can't comment on the weight for those that are less fortunate). It comes with lots of cleaning parts, the attachment for cleaning areas where pets sleep etc is amazing! All in all, I'd definitely recommend this hoover! It's pretty much the exact same model as the Absolute, it comes with the fluffy roller attachment for hard floors which has the laser beam, which is pretty cool. And it's cheaper than the Absolute too!Great service, really speedy delivery too! Go buy it if you're looking for a cordless hoover with all the trimmings!

Make your home really clean!

This is my first Dyson and the first time using one in a very long time if every. I always thought they were just hyped up and overpriced vacuum cleaners. I was wrong, very wrong in fact and I'm glad to have the Dyson V15 Detect!I was suspect of this being a battery operated one because battery operated devices sometimes have less power or the power diminishes when low. I would only purchase plug in ones because I wanted the most power I could get. The Dyson V15 blows any plug-in vacuum I have ever had! The power is significant and does not diminish when the battery gets low. It was so powerful that it was picking up one of my smaller rugs when vacuuming. I would only purchase plug in ones because I wanted the most power I could get. The Dyson V15 blows any plug-in vacuum I have ever had! The power is significant and does not diminish when the battery gets low. It was so powerful that it was picking up one of my smaller rugs when vacuuming. The battery does last a decent amount of time. I was able to vacuum my whole house about 3,000 square feet and had battery left over. The battery is removable so it should be an easy replacement if ever needed. On the vacuum there is a little menu that lets you choose power boost, eco, or auto for the power/battery. I tried boost and it makes the vacuum work at a high speed to give better suction. This is great for dog hair stuck in a fabric! I mostly use the vacuum on the auto setting. When in auto it will turn up the power when it detects more dirt, then goes back to a lower speed on lighter dirt. The display also shows the particulate matter that it sucked up. I'm not sure how accurate the display can show the different particulates, but it is still nice to have a little display to show that your vacuuming effort was worth it.The Dyson V15 comes with lots of attachments, pretty much anything you need to vacuum is covered. I was able to try most of them out and saw that they worked really well. We have short hair dogs and their fur is imbedded into our sofa. I have tried like three or four different vacuums and nothing will pull it out. So my first test with this Dyson was to use the Hair Screw Tool and see if it would work on the sofa. To my surprise it worked very well and was able to clean up a lot of the hair. Next I used the Digital Motorbar, which can be used on all floors but I just tried it on our rugs. It also worked better than expected and pulled up so much hair and dirt. The Crevice Tool, yeah its just a crevice tool, but it also lights up! I thought it was just gimmicky, but actually found the light to be helpfully when cleaning in hard to see or dark spaces. The soft dusting brush was nice to use on curtains, pictures, etc. My favorite is the Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head. This is one where it lights up the floor green to show you dirt. Again I thought why is this a thing, then after using it, it totally makes sense! We have gray laminate flooring throughout the house, it hides a lot of dog hair, dirt, and dust. I thought my floors where pretty clean, but then using the Lase Cleaner Head it showed my floors where covered in dust and dog hair. The green laser makes it super easy to see all of this so you can do a better job at vacuuming. I now use this brush head anytime I vacuum the floors so I can make sure to get everything vacuumed up. It also comes with a Low-reach adaptor which is super handy to clean under furniture. Under my bed was a mess because we could never get the vacuum under them to clean, this attachment made the task super easy.Cleanup is simple, remove attachments, go to garbage can, pull red lever and all the dirt goes right into the trash. My prior stick vacuum whenever I would empty it, I would have dirt spill out or not go directly in the trash. There is also a docking station that you can mount to the wall. The docking station holds two attachments and can charge the vacuum.I really feel like Dyson thought of everything that a person would do with a vacuum and put it into this one. The build quality is great, it works great, the attachments are great, everything is great with this vacuum! If you need a new vacuum that can clean your home, car, whatever needs cleaning, this is the one to get!

Much time (and money) have been spent on technology and R&D to develop a new suction method to provide powerful suction and filtration without losing power over time. The build is mostly plastic with their signature style including a bottom-mounted battery which leads to a grip that connects to the central suction/canister areas. You'll see a much larger canister here than on the older/smaller v6-8 models. See my pictures for a size comparison with a V7.Overall it's well-balanced and comfortable to hold. You get a ton of attachments, some which require a special callout:--Main shaft, crevice tool, right-angle adapter, fine brush, coarse brush w/extension, wall mount, carrying clip (for your favorite tool) and...--Fluffy Optic - this is made for hard floors and is the standout new one that has a low-angle green laser that illuminates dust (so much dust!)--Anti-Tangle Comb - this head is good for all floors and has high-torque to really get things clean. It has a special feature to keep hair off the rollers--Anti-Tangle Screw Hair Tool - this narrow head has a "screw" design which should ball up hair for pickup so it doesn't wrap around the vacuum filter in the canisterOne big thing you'll want to know: This doesn't have a push-button on/off. This is a trigger that must be held to use. For those that don't/can't use trigger-style vacuums, you may need to shop around. The first thing you'll want to do is plug it in to charge fully, then complete the setup which consists of selecting your language (English, in this case) and battery mode (Eco for longest life, lowest suction; Medium, for automatic adjustments; High for maximum power).Another thing you'll note is there's no mention of HEPA filtration on this model, but they do talk about the ability to filter up to 0.3 microns and expel cleaner air.Performance=================================This is a powerful vacuum! In a house with no pets, but three girls with long hair, this grabbed hair on floors, carpets, and rugs without issue. I will say that some hair did get onto the internal filter in the canister, but perhaps we didn't get everything using the Screw Hair Tool first. I believe the "order of operations" should be to use the Screw Hair Tool to get your hair/fur off of most surfaces first, then use the proper tool for hard floors or carpets (Fluffy Optic or "standard" with Anti-Tangle Comb). After that, you'd use the smaller brushes, crevice tool, etc.As you vacuum with the Fluffy Optic, you'll see things you wish you could unsee... Yes, that bright green laser which is precisely angled will highlight all the dust and dander that you never really noticed before. It's literally an eye-opener in terms of clearly seeing what you're vacuuming up and what you've left behind (or not yet gotten to). For completionists and power-washer fans, it's a great attachment that will help you see your progress. On top of that, the rear face of the V15 shows you a bar graph with 4 categories based on the size of the particles being sucked up! From tiny allergens to crumbs/sugar-sized ones, you can see what you're cleaning. For those with allergies or sensitivity to fine dust, this can really help show if you've done a good enough job cleaning or not. I plan to establish somewhat of a "baseline" by keeping track of the numbers and seeing if there's any improvement as I continue to vacuum over a week/month/etc.It'd be nice if the Dyson app (used to register your V15) provided more than just marketing info, usage guides, and rudimentary troubleshooting. What if it could keep track of your stats for you?High-power mode is great, but short-lived. I didn't run down the battery, but only use this when you really need it. As for Eco mode, I could see that doing a great job if you have a lot of hard floors to clean with just dust to worry about. It should last near the stated 60-minute runtime. As for medium/auto, this is probably the best default mode if you're dealing with mixed surfaces and possible fur/hair along with dust and crumbs. You can hear the motor/suction adjusting as you vacuum based on what types/size particles it's detecting. We're getting more than 30 minutes of runtime in this mode which is enough to take care of vacuuming tasks, especially if you do it once a week or more often. How did the V15 Detect deal with 3 girls' long hair? Well, it did get them off any surface we had, but cleaning the canister wasn't as easy as just pushing the release into a bin. The long hair (> 16") did get tangled around the internal filters so it required removing the entire clear canister to get the hair (and dust) off. I would not recommend doing this inside since things get messy. Doing this outside, halfway into your trash bin or bag is best, and watch out for the wind direction! Conclusion=================================I'd say this is the probably the best cleaning tool we have in the house to-date. We also use a Dyson V7 and an LG CordZero A9. Compared to those, this V15 Detect is certainly bigger and more powerful. Unlike the LG, there's a trigger-mechanism here which may be a deal-breaker for some.Overall though, I do love the Fluffy Optic brush with the green dust illuminator. There's no doubt your floors are getting cleaner when you can literally see the dust that you may have left behind with your other vacuums. Not only that, you can see the stats on the back of the vacuum, showing the types of particles you're getting. I'd say this vacuum (or one of Dyson's other HEPA ones) along with some good air filters should keep homes squeaky-clean for those that are sensitive to dust and dander. I can't stress this enough, the illumination is literally eye-opening and will show you more dust than you care to know you have! This Dyson V15 Detect Extra has definitely made it into the regular cleaning rotation and I think the V7 is about to retire as a small "spot" or car vacuum.

So good it needs a bigger collection

I’ve got to be honest. I wasn’t really looking forward to converting to a cordless hoover from my corded animal ball 2… But, that said I do recommend it as a good buy.I’m really impressed with the amount of dirt this picked up when hoovering my entire downstairs in auto mode & did use boot option a few times. My house is a 4 bedroom medium sized house and this hoover tackled everything I threw at it. I have two toddlers aged 3 & 4 and a Newfoundland large breed fluff ball of a dog that moults so much I’ve shaved the dog to save on grooming time & cleaning… this V15 hoover picked up dog hair that was stuck deep in my thick pile rugs and the fluffy roller cleaned my hard floor better than any hoover I’ve ever owned. I thought the green LED light was a gimmick and didn’t think I’d find it useful at all, as I thought it’s just a dim green light. However, it really did show me how dirty my floors was - even though they looked clean.I honestly thought I would have returned this hoover, but it’s so much better than my animal ball 2 model at sucking up dirt - I’m going to keep it… it’s also nice walking around the house without being restricted to a cable and an electric outlets. Also this hoover can clean my car as good as it cleans my house. The negative I’ve found is the bin size needs to be bigger or longer, because it easily fills quickly and I’m needing to empty it after every use. I originally was going to buy the outsize model with it having a larger bin, but I opted for the V15 with it having stronger suction and a cheeper price tag and also having updated cleaning Technology. So I decided to go for this v15 model. I don’t regret my choice, but it’s very annoying having to empty the bin so often.Another issue I found, the bin don’t stay clean when you empty it. You need to wipe it down with a cloth after you empty the bin to keep it clean… as I don’t like having a dirty hoover on display charging up with dirt init. It makes the house look dirty with it sitting on a wall mounted charging dock.If you have a pantry or a storage cupboard you store your hoover and don’t care if it looks dirty. Then it’s not so much of an issue. But if you are like me and have it mounted in your hallway, it’s a little embarrassing having guest over with a hoover full of dirt on display. So I think a brush inside the bin would have helped loosen trapped dust when emptying. But it’s not a big issue. As it can be wiped clean after use.I also think if your have a medium sided 3/4 bedroom house like me. That you will need to buy a second battery todo a full house clean. As the battery only gives me enough time to deep clean my downstairs. This said, investing in an extra battery would be very beneficial for full house cleans, just be prepared to empty the bin a few times. The last issue is, it’s quite expensive for what you get. It is better than corded hoovers but the collection bin I feel lets down the efficiency in deep cleaning large areas…For this reason. I’ve give this hoover a 4 star rating. Because it’s really good at cleaning. But it does have miner downsides too and needs improvements for larger homes. But not enough to make it a bad buy.

The V15 is an exemplary machine, much preferred to Stratos

I recently purchased a Dyson V15 Detect Extra, and as someone who previously owned a V10, the difference between the two models is truly remarkable. The V15 boasts significantly more power, requires less frequent filter cleaning, and includes a built-in crevice tool, all of which make cleaning a breeze.I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to compare the Dyson V15 with Shark's vacuum offerings, and I found that the Dyson outperformed its competition for several reasons:Cleaner head weight and maneuverability: Although this aspect might not be widely discussed, the lightweight design of the Dyson cleaner head is a game-changer. It glides effortlessly between furniture, making it easy to clean tight spaces. At first glance, a duo brush roller head may seem like a superior option, but once you experience the difficulty of pushing around such a bulky head, you'll appreciate the sleek design of the Dyson.Sturdier build and better quality: The Dyson V15 feels solid and durable, capable of withstanding rough usage. The plastic components don't come across as cheap or flimsy, contributing to the overall impression of a well-crafted device.Built-in crevice tool: The integrated crevice tool is incredibly convenient. When you need to clean up small, hard-to-reach areas, simply detach the hose and vacuum up the stray bits of dirt that the larger brush can't access. In conclusion, the Dyson V15 Detect Extra is an outstanding vacuum cleaner, albeit a bit pricey. However, considering its numerous advantages and superior performance, I would argue that the investment is well worth it.On a side note, I added some climbing finger tape to the Dyson's handle and it made the device so much more comfortable to use. My hands no longer slide and I need to grip the handle less tightly.

This one could replace your plug-in vacuum

The Dyson V15 Detect Extra vacuum is a powerful cordless vacuum whose performance actually rivals that of our plug-in vacuum.I think “versatile” is the word that best describes the Dyson V15 Detect. It comes with a plethora of attachments that make any cleaning task from floors to ceiling fans a breeze. One of the included accessories is the wand storage clip. It allows onboard storage of two accessory attachments. I find it’s handy for the combination tool and the crevice tool. Both are used in multiple applications. The crevice tool has a light pipe on it that illuminates the area to be cleaned. It does a great job on stairs where they meet the wall and also where the stair tread meets the riser. The crevice tool has a light pipe on it that illuminates the area to be cleaned. It does a great job on stairs where they meet the wall and also where the stair tread meets the riser. The lighted crevice tool is also perfect in the car because it allows me to see into and reach the dark recesses under the seats. The mini soft dusting brush made short work of removing the dust from the blinds in the kitchen and bedrooms. It has soft, flexible bristles, so it also does a bang-up job around tabletop decorations without disrupting their arrangement. The Digital Motorbar cleaner is a general-purpose vacuum head that does a great job on carpeting and rugs. It has a three-position slider to vary suction power, and that’s a good thing. On max suction, it was picking up the area rugs. Sliding it down to the minimum suction setting allows me to clean the area rugs without incident. I found that it does a good job along baseboards if I keep the head perpendicular to the baseboard, cleaning from the extreme right or left side of the head. If I pushed the head forward into the baseboard, it inevitably left behind some debris. That’s okay because the swivel head is extremely maneuverable and a turn of the wrist is all it takes to capture any fugitives from cleanup. There is another cleaner head called the “Fluffy Optic” cleaner. It projects a green light across solid surface flooring in front of the cleaner head and makes any debris stand out for easy location and cleaning. Even dust that would otherwise go unnoticed becomes glaringly obvious, and the Dyson V15 Detect does a great job of capturing even the smallest particles.A wall mount charging station is included for a convenient storage option that means your Dyson V15 Detect Extra is always ready to go to work. Alternatively, the battery is removable and can be charged while off the vacuum body. I appreciate the versatility these charging options allow. There is a color digital display that communicates vacuum status Including battery charge percentage, power setting (Eco, Medium, or Boost), and realtime details of dirt levels being picked up and remaining run time.Regarding the amount of dirt being picked up, the vacuum monitors what’s being collected in real time and automatically adjusts motor speed to effectively balance cleaning power and efficiency. Packaging indicates a run time of up to 60 minutes. I vacuumed our entire first floor, a screen porch, stairs, and a carpet runner in the garage, a project that took about 45 minutes. When I plugged in the vacuum for recharge, it indicated there was 30 percent capacity remaining.Following the first-floor vacuum, the large dust cup was pretty full. Emptying is as easy as pushing a lever on the back of the vacuum body forward. Contents of the dust cup drop into the trash. Pull the lever back into position, close the lid on the bottom of the cup, and it’s ready to go.If I have any criticism of the Dyson V15 Detect, it would be the weight and the power switch. After 30-plus minutes of continuous operation, it starts to get a little heavy. More than that, the trigger-style switch must be continuously depressed to keep the vacuum running. It’s conveniently located right where the index finger falls while holding the vacuum, but extended cleaning sessions can cause some fatigue. I think I prefer the on/off buttons of our other cordless vacuums. My impression of the Dyson V15 Detect Extra is overwhelmingly positive. It matches the performance of our plug-in vacuums in a convenient cordless package. The included accessories mean that no job is out of reach.

Dyson has outdone themselves once again! This will be my 4th Dyson vacuum and with each new model I get, they keep improving, and improving, and improving. This is by far the best vacuum I have ever owned!Unboxing it, the vacuum comes with every attachment you would ever need! I won’t go through all of them but you get the main vacuum head, a small upholstery cleaner with spinning brush, crevice tool, dusting tool, and many more. This unit comes with one battery. When cleaning our 2400 square foot house we easily have enough battery to clean the entire house from top to bottom with lots of battery to spare. We usually run it in the auto mode and occasionally bump it up to the max power setting for hard to clean areas. It also comes with a wall mounting bracket so you can easily mount the head and extension tube on the wall for easy storage and chargingWe recently redid our entire upper level with luxury vinyl plank and I have to say until we got this vacuum, we “thought” we were cleaning it very well every week. Boy, were we wrong! This Dyson comes with a special roller made for hard floors and it has a green laser light on it that fans out on front of the roller so you can really see the dirt and dust on your floor. I guarantee you will be amazed the first time you use this attachment on how dirty your floors actually are! That head makes it very easy to scope out dirt and dust and vacuum it up with ease!It also comes with a regular roller head that is great for carpeting. The only gripe I have ever had with Dyson vacuums are that the standard heads don’t have lights on them. Its even more puzzling now that they have the green laser light on the other head. Come on Dyson, light it up already! Other than that small gripe, that head also works amazingly! You can literally feel the head sticking to the carpet and sucking everything up. Its not hard to push, but you can definitely feel the suction. I’ve never experienced that before, even with a corded vacuum.I will also mention both of the rollers are no-tangle. They do work very well picking up hair and things like that without tangling around the roller. Better than any other vacuum I’ve used.Another attachment that kind of surprised me was the crevice tool. It looked just like a normal tool, but when I popped it on the wand and fired up the vacuum I was shocked to see that it also had a very bright LED light on it making it very easy to see in the crevices you are trying to vacuum in. Even with the long wand attached, all of the attachments still have amazing suction! There is even a curved tube to help you reach things like ceiling fan blades. Dyson really did think of EVERYTHING with this vacuum! The display is pretty much the same as on the previous vacuums. It’s a one button operation to switch between the 3 modes. On this one there is also a screen that shows the amount and different size pf particles it has sucked up. It’s a bit gimmicky, but some people might find that information useful.I really can’t say enough amazing things about this vacuum. Dyson is an amazing company with excellent customer service. I have had problems with some of their vacuums in the past that were under warranty and Dyson fixed the problem and sent me a replacement ASAP!If I was forced to point out some negatives, it would be the aforementioned light missing on the main vacuum head and that the vacuum might be a little heavy for some people. This one does feel lighter than my previous one, but if you are elderly or not very strong you might have a problem holding it and squeezing the trigger. Other than that, these really are the perfect vacuums!I highly recommend checking them out if you are in the market for a new vacuum. I know you won’t be disappointed!
