Auditory Overstimulation Gone!

I was hesitant about these at first but I mean it when I say Loops really delivered! I have really bad auditory sensory issues and I've tried so many different earplugs and headphones and nothing has worked like this product. I love the ability to switch between no mutes and mutes because sometimes that extra damper is so helpful. I also really love that it has both silicone and foam tips because they offer different dampening and comfort depending on what you need at the time. (Flexibility is soooo important for unpredictable changing sensory issues). I'm so impressed that I'm genuinely considering buying another pair that's a different kind! The one thing I noticed is it makes the steps you take while walking oddly loud, but that really doesn't bother me either. I've recently used these at graduation parties and I've been able to hold a conversation at one table without getting overwhelmed from all the background noise of all the other tables. This product is truly a lifesaver and has saved me from so much overstimulation and so many panic attacks. My only regret is not buying them sooner!

Comfortable but distorts speech

Engage is advertised as being optimized for conversation/speech, but I personally find speech more difficult to understand with Engage than with the solid plug (Loop Quiet). I feel a little more "aware" of things going on around me with the Engage than when I wear solid plugs, without experiencing pain from loud noises. I just can't recommend the Engage specifically for speech/conversation (let alone music) as they distort sound too much.

This is my second pair of Loops. I already had the Quiets (with the old version of the case) for sleeping/working, but I wanted to try the Engages to see if they would be a good choice to wear all day since I am sensitive to loud city noises. The background noise does seem to fade while allowing me to hear people talking, which had the weird side effect of making me focus too much on side conversations when I was sitting on my own in a busy train station. When actually having a conversation with someone, I actually can't hear them very well even though I appreciate the lower background volume. I have accidentally bumped into people while walking because I had no idea they were there while I had the Engages in. I like that Loops are small and discreet so my hair hides them easily, but I wish they came in flesh tones so they blend in more with my skin and I can feel more comfortable wearing my hair up as I usually do. I bought the clear version, which is discreet enough, but the opaque white/black mutes ruin the effect (I am East Asian with light-medium tan skin).I think the new case is kind of clumsy and they don't provide a dedicated spot for the mutes, so they either float around at the risk of falling out when the case is opened or have to be stored inside the earplugs. Since I don't really use my mutes, I leave them at home. I like that the earplugs sit more securely in the case but I have a little bit of trouble trying to push them in all the way when I'm done using them, especially if I am dealing with loose mutes. The keychain loop on the case seems very weak---I would never trust it and always put the case in a secure pocket. For some reason, earbuds fit well in my right ear but not in my left. Not sure what's up with that, but I've had the same issue with Loops and AirPods. I'll experiment with ear tip sizes one day...Overall, I like the Engages and they are useful to have, but they haven't been the perfect solution for me. I was hoping for something that would deaden background noise while allowing me to keep some situational awareness, but their effect seems too dangerous to use while navigating busy areas, for example. I like them for train commutes, loud restaurants, and other stationary situations when I am fairly close to the person I am talking to, if applicable.

Fishbowl effect makes conversation difficult - not what I thought the product would be.
21 December 2023

I am slightly disappointed in this product. My understanding through emailing staff, reading reviews, and reading the specs on the website led me to believe that these earplugs maintained clarity on louder sounds such as conversations while eliminating or reducing background noise. Really, it just reduces everything, including the conversations I have with people, so neither my partner nor I found them overly helpful with that. We both also found that our voices were louder in our heads when we were having conversations (sort of like my head is in a fishbowl), which also made conversing difficult. They certainly help with reducing over-stimulation when I am in loud places or wanting to reduce distracting noises during exams or times when I need to focus. The shipping box that the product box came in appeared to be in decent condition, so I am not sure how the box inside came in such poor condition. If you are looking to reduce noise intensity, these are great, but they don't eliminate the "low decibel" background noise, which is the impression I had. I also would not recommend for conversation with people.

I'd pay double if I knew what I know now

Lifesaving for college courses, working as a mechanic, and doing the dishes. I wear it in noisy lab environments that used to agitate me, as well as in large lecture halls to mute the sound of the professors mic and shuffling noises without losing the ability to clearly hear the prof. I use it at work where there are tons of loud and sharp noises that happen randomly that used to physically hurt my ears. I still need to be able to hear my coworkers and the environment, because it's a safety concern. And when we play music out loud while I'm there, I can hear the music and my coworkers voices very clearly, while the sound of an impact driver is muted. This is the most impactful thing it does and I would pay double for them if I knew what I know now. No matter how careful I am, things slip and crash around and it makes me insane. I just pop the loops in and it's all better. Same with vacuuming. I also own quiets which I wear to sleep that help a lot. Sometimes my ear gets sore but it's worth it. The occlusion for both types can be a bit bothersome and sometimes I have to take the quiets out because the occlusion gets annoying, but it's fine overall. The engages have less occlusion. It takes a second to get used to talking at the appropriate volume with them, but you get the hang of it. To conclude, this purchase is genuinely one of the best purchases I have made. Highly recommend.

I like that I can still hear specific voices if directed at me, but all the chaos background noise is a lot less invasive. And i luke that my own voice doesnt echo loudly in my head if i have to talk while wearing them. Really helps me on days my overwhelm is bad and the TV is on and ppl are talking and I'm trying to make dinner all at the same time. Something about the noise of sports on TV is just too much. I did wear them to an event that had very loud music and was able to actually enjoy some of the evening but it didn't help me understand the person right next to me lol. Unfortunately I had the size of ear tip too big I think, it was the default maybe or the small, and after 4hrs, my ears were hurting and itchy and peeling for days afterwards. I'm guessing maybe I'm allergic to silicone or something, and haven't tried them yet for at night while hubby is snoring in his sleep, preventing me from sleeping at all. I switched to the xs tips and they hurt less but still itch. I really wanted to try them for sleep, but worried about an allergy situation. Unfortunately my cat knocked the container off the counter one night and somehow got it opened, and destroyed one of the inserts for extra quiet and I can't find the other... which I think I'd need for snoring anyways. 😒 so not sure if I can order just the white inserts all by themselves as a replacement or not. Not sure if I can wear them overnight or not. They work great... just not without issue for me.

I was curious about the technology to preferentially block out certain frequencies while letting in the human voice. Using them to socialize in a noisy environment, they *do* muffle some of the background noise, while my friend's voice has come through just fine. But they don't *significantly* reduce the background noise. Worth keeping for the small amount of improvement they bring, but like the Quiets, they're not remarkable.Perhaps the technology will evolve! I'm really interested in what the Engages are trying to do, and hope someday they'll just do it a little bit better. The two together are worth it for the price point and the marginal improvements they bring. I wouldn't pay more than this for them though.

Takes the edge off

As someone who is sensitive to noise, I’ve been searching for a solid everyday earplug. I settled on the engage 2 plus to cut down on noise while still being able to hear conversation. In this regard, it does a fantastic job.It still amplifies your own eating and breathing a little bit, so it’s not the best if you need it while eating. That’s to be expected with most in-ear earplugs though. Otherwise it’s quite comfortable once you find the right size tips, of which it comes with a lot of sizes to choose from. It does take a little bit of practice to pop them in and out, but once you get the hang of it it’s possible to do it quite quickly.I got the clear style, and without the white mutes (inner removable silicone ring that cuts down on noise even further) it’s ... MoreAs someone who is sensitive to noise, I’ve been searching for a solid everyday earplug. No one will really notice unless they’re really looking. I do wish there was space in the case to store the mutes so I could more easily pop them in and out without losing them.Overall, I’d recommend the engage 2 plus to anyone who wants to reduce the overall noise levels without making everything too muffled.

They’re good earplugs

First of all, the earplugs are nice quality. They’re exactly what I was expecting aesthetically and they fit my tiny ears that have always been hard to size for. The case is nice, stays closed really well and the earplugs are cute and comfy to wear. This was my first time buying earplugs (for sensory issues and also sound dampening) and I am having a hard time adjusting to the echo I hear when I wear them. I can hear myself talk when they’re in and have trouble with my own speech volume. I feel like I’m screaming but my wife assures me I’m not. I’m not sure if this is a learning curve or if I’m wearing them wrong? Maybe I bought the wrong type of earplug for my purposes but the echo is distracting for me and makes it hard to wear them for any extended amount of ... MoreFirst of all, the earplugs are nice quality. I can hear myself talk when they’re in and have trouble with my own speech volume. I feel like I’m screaming but my wife assures me I’m not. I’m not sure if this is a learning curve or if I’m wearing them wrong? Maybe I bought the wrong type of earplug for my purposes but the echo is distracting for me and makes it hard to wear them for any extended amount of time. The earplugs shipped pretty quickly and they’re exactly (if not better) than advertised aesthetically and fit wise I just wish I had known about the echo before I committed to the more expensive style. Also - putting the little rubber bits that add extra quiet capabilities really does work. They keep sound out.

What I've Been Looking For My Whole Life

I am very impressed with the Engage 2 Plus Loops. They're light and cute, super comfortable, and nicely adaptable with the extra Mutes. My high noise sensitivity has caused me many grievances throughout my life. I tried regular earplugs but they never met the criteria mentioned above. I used to wear noise cancelling headphones all the time (without playing any audio) but they have a limited battery life and are inappropriate for social interactions (in terms of level of noise reduction and politeness). The Loops, on the other hand, can be worn at all times without compromising comfort, sociability, and convenience. They help me manage daily traffic and construction noise; engage in conversations at cafes/restaurants and social events; and get a full night's sleep ... MoreI am very impressed with the Engage 2 Plus Loops. Sometimes, I take out one Loop to manage these situations better.Overall: good quality, great for social engagement, and very manageable downsides.
