EarthQuaker Devices Hizumitas Fuzz Sustainar

Hizumitas was designed for the one and only Wata from the legendary experimental band Boris, one of the heaviest bands ever to come out of Japan. It is a faithful recreation of Wata’s go-to distortion pedal, the Elk BM Sustainar. The Elk is a Japanese variant of the very well-known “Triangle” BMP. The designers at EQD tried several vintage BMP’s during development, found that each pedal was wildly different and realized that to truly capture the magic they needed the original. Wata graciously sent her beloved pedal halfway around the world, and EQD discovered that it had something special the others didn’t have: heavy saturation with a gritty edge and massive bottom while maintaining a clear and dynamic tone with enough mids and top end to cut through any sludge. The studious wizards at EQD have built all of those characteristics into the Hizumitas.

I never really thought I needed a fuzz till I got this one and it was everything missing to make my tone very colorful. 3 knobs make it easy to use and it’s absolutely beautiful to look at! I am very happy and satisfied with the amazing tone eartquacker devices always delivers.

Woah. This pedal delivers. Overall just excellent. I had never used a fuzz pedal before and I definitely messed up there. Pedal looks nice too.

Awesome fuzz to add to your arsenal.

You can definitely nail Wata's tone with this pedal and the right guitar, amp, and delay. This pedal doesn't go from 0 - 60 MPH, it does 60 - 100MPH. It's full-bore even at 1 on the gain knob. So if you want saturation, this is your new friend. The tone knob does an excellent job of shaping the fuzz to go from a dark grind to a great cutting treble. Not the most versatile pedal, but what it does do, it does well.

Gnarliest Fuzz of All Time
22 November 2021

The gnarliest fuzz I have ever encountered. It is insanely huge, big, full etc. with tons and tons of sustain. It's versatile and can go from really rich warm Bass-y tones to piercing shred tones. It still responds to Dynamics despite being so high gain and aggressive but it definitely is not a low gain dirt kind of pedal. I use this pedal as a bassist and it retains tons and tons of low end. Unfortunately it does not have a blend control to blend in the dry signal but you can use the relatively affordable Boss line selector LS2 pedal to circumvent this problem. On guitar it will turn a telecaster plugged into a twin reverb into a doom sludgefest Stoner metal face melting extravaganza

Great pedal
4 September 2022

This pedal is a great fuzz. Love the tone knob! Turn left for treble, right for bass. This is the only fuzz I use. Handmade in Akron, Ohio. Great company with great customer service.
