EGO to the rescue

I have never owned a chainsaw and only operated them a handful of times in my life. My area was recently hit by a tornado in Nebraska, so I needed one to assist with a large clean-up. Being very familiar with EGO, I purchased the Commercial 20” chain saw kit and quickly put it to work for 2 weeks on tree trunks/limbs ranging from 3” to over 2’ in diameter. As with all EGO tools, operation was easy, safe, and the power was astounding. It did not bog down or kick back once during use and other than being heavy, was exactly the tool needed for the job. Chainsaws can be an intimidating tool, but this one gave me confidence in it’s use and I was able to help a lot of people.

Saw the one review one star and had to say something cause this saw is GREAT, and a great price compared to some of the other commercial electric chainsaws out there. Its just a great quiet chainsaw, plenty of power. batteries do get hot kinda quick under heavy loads which is to be expected and it stops you but if you have extras swap em out get back to it while the other cools. No I’m not gonna grab this if im cutting all day and got cords of logs to cut up but it definitely could and sometimes i just get sick of the noise on my gas saws.

I am a homeowner just processing firewood. I have it for a few weeks now and it’s good for what it is. First off buy an aftermarket chain the one it comes with is just awful. But other than that typical battery power tools it’ll over heat if you throw a lot of load at it quickly and it takes awhile to charge batteries. But it will eat anything I can throw at it. Anyway would this replace a gas saw? No way!

Impressive performance, but ....
9 May 2024

I have quite a number of Ego products, all of which perform admirably. My one observation is the inordinate cost of the batteries. 6 10ah batteries for a ride on mower run out at a bewildering $3,600!! Given that the batteries are guaranteed for 3 only years and may last for 5, that running cost cancels out the performance of the various products. This unmentioned cost is one that should be taken into consideration when deciding between a battery-run tool and a petrol/diesel driven one..

NOT Commercial Grade

This is in no way acceptable for commercial use. Using any battery smaller than 8ah will cause the battery to get so hot you cannot fully discharge the battery before the battery triggers the tool to shutdown. When using 10ah or 12ah the battery will not shut down but they do get very hot and the 10ah and 12ah bring on a new problem - you can only use 1 battery before the saw overheats and shuts down. When the saw shuts down that is a long wait. Any size battery you use get so hot you can feel the heat thru the plastic housing. The temperature inside the cells is likely even hotter and if you’re not aware when batteries are this hot it shortens their usable life I would guess this much heat can't be good for the saw electronics either. When using the 28ah battery the battery will commutate with the CSX5000 and only allow the saw to run in eco mode which is the lowest power setting on the CSX5000. When running in eco mode the saw will overheat and shutdown when the 28ah has about 50% charge remaining. Are you ready to see for yourself powerful battery operated tools are not ready for market and shorten the life of your batteries in the process? Buy the CSX5000 today!

Not yet ready for prime time
22 July 2024

I own both the CSX5000 and the CS2000. I put them both through their real test this weekend when I cut down and cut up a 20" choke cherry tree. The 5000 overheated the 12ah battery rather quickly. Then I put the 8ah battery in and was only able to make a couple of cuts before the saw itself overheated! So it was done for quite a while.I was able to finish up the trunk with the CS2000. it overheated it's 6ah battery; but I had a couple of 7.5ah batteries to finish the trunk. The CSX5000 is a very powerful saw; it just has a problem with heat management.

So far, so good.

Love it so far. Live on acreage and thought I'd give it a go instead of buying a new petrol chainsaw and yet to be disappointed. Have used it to limb, fell and buck trees such as paperbark, African olive and even ironbarks.i feel it is slightly less powerful compared to the petrol saws I have used previously, but only takes a couple of seconds longer to cut through similar logs. Running on the 7.5amph battery, I can get a decent amount of work done and some pretty solid sessions. If you know how to use battery tools properly, the battery can last quite a while if you are using the appropriate speed and not overloading the unit. The torch is handing for cutting wood as night comes, have even used it in the middle of the night with no other lights around when we ... MoreLove it so far. Solid EGO Chainsaw

Unusable in warmer weather

I am a hobbyist, and I bought this because I wanted it,but I don't need it. It is very powerful, but highly prone to overheating, when doing full, or close to full bar cuts.Imagine my surprise when the saw shut off after two and a half full bar cuts! The initial shut off was because the battery had overheated. Swapping out the battery didn't help much; as the saw itself overheated shortly afterwards. That being said; I have much better luck with my CS2005. it ran a LOT longer before overheating the battery. And swapping out the battery worked fine. With current battery technology; I would consider the CSX5000 to be the 'race' version of the CS2000. I don't have any experience operating the CSX5000 in cooler weather; so I can't speak to how well it works under ... MoreI am a hobbyist, and I bought this because I wanted it,but I don't need it. But if you need to get a lot of work done; consider instead the CS2005.I WOULD recommend this to a friend as a novelty, but I didn't get to use it very much when I cut down and cut up a 60ft cherry tree.

Worked great... once.
27 April 2024

Purchased this commercial grade chain saw in March of '24. Used it twice, and on the second outing of bucking up some white pine the chain tensioner peg snapped in half under completely normal operating conditions. Will be requesting a refund to purchase a superior product. I am the second hand owner of a classic 14" Ego chainsaw and have been impressed with it's capability over the last four years of use. Disappointed to see this "commercial" grade product not meet the same standard.
