Awesome mic for streaming and voice chat

This is an incredibly good mic, mostly meant for streaming or even just gaming, though it’s high-end enough that I can’t recommend it if you’re just planning on using it for voice chat. With Discord compression and other voice chat services’ limitations, you’ll be paying for quality that won’t be heard if you get this mic solely for gaming. For streaming, though, it’s awesome. The Clipguard is especially impressive, and a large reason I went with this mic. It takes the worry out of whether the gain will make your audio clip; all you have to worry about is that your voice sounds good over the mic, and you don’t have to worry about distortion when you get excited or something. It’s a great feature. Yell all you want! I’ll note that while the cardioid pattern works fine for preventing keyboard and mouse sounds from being picked up, it’s not great at it. You can definitely still hear both my peripherals, and even though I have a clacky keyboard, I still think most people will find the same. Something unexpected I like about the mic is its stand. It’s heavy and feels quality, and of all the mics I’ve tried, it’s the only stand that came included with the mic that I actually use. I like the capacitative mute button. I’ve heard the occasional complaint that people trigger it without meaning to, but I haven’t had that problem; I like being able to mute without any click or bump audible before the audio cuts out. I also can’t vouch for the software. I found it didn’t work for my dual-PC setup, since I pipe my sound from my mic to my gaming PC and then over HDMI to my streaming computer. Be aware that while the Elgato software works for many people’s streaming pipelines, it won’t work for everyone’s. I use Voicemeeter instead. A lot of people like the Elgato software, though, and I agree that it seems well-designed. I also love that you can use the software to tweak settings, like disabling clipguard or turning off auto-gain control. I recommend downloading it just for that reason. Another note: I position my mouth around 7 inches from the mic and have found I have no need for a pop filter. The built-in one works just fine for me. Overall, strongly recommend. It’s a great microphone, with great features. You really get what you pay for.

The process also feels like you need a degree in order to get things working correctly. The Wave series definitely takes all the work out of that, and saves you a great deal of money, a little desk space, and makes you sound great, too! Out of the box, the Wave:3 is really lightweight, but feels pretty premium, and I love it's smaller form factor compared to a lot of competitor mics on the market. It comes with a very weighty stand if you don't have an arm to put it on, which does eliminate any vibration that may go through the surface you put it on. Setting it up was an absolute cakewalk, and the mic itself sounds incredibly clean and crisp; The gain only needs to go up a small way so you can be heard without picking up everything in the room. But what's really special to me is the bundled Wave Software, that, once set up correctly, really takes the hassle out of managing and montoring your sound channels, and saves you the space you would need on your workstation for a bulky audio mixer. The sliders in the software can be synced so that what you hear and what the stream hears is the same, and you can even go as far as adding commands on your Streamdeck in order to raise, lower and crossfade audio channels at your leisure, which makes your stream feel so much more professional! For the price point, the Wave 3 has a lot to offer, and you'd be extremely hard-pressed to find a product that gives you the level of quality paired with the features that comes bundled with it. As far as Content Creation goes, this is defnitely the gold standard.

The installation was simple, however, after installing it, the microphone begin to lock up. The buttons on the microphone would stop functioning and all audio output would stop. I tried multiple USB ports including a USB 3.1 Gen 2. Moving the microphone to a new USB port would resolve the issue shortly, then the microphone would freeze again. I tried reinstalling the software multiple times. I did not configure any extra settings and kept all the defaults following the instructions exactly. My computer is running Windows 11 with an I7-12900 and 32gb DDR4 RAM. After uninstalling the recommended software, the Elgato Wave:3 functioned again as a regular USB microphone without issue. Because my primary driver for purchasing this unit was the software, I returned it. Based on my experience I do not recommend the Elgato Wave:3.

Elgato changes the game for streamers and creators

If you were not already using an XLR microphone with a mix-amp to power it for your streaming and content creation needs, the Project Wave devices will easily and handily fill that niche. What do you get with the product? Although the microphone itself feels like it's made out of relatively inexpensive plastic, the housing around its condenser is the solid build quality you would expect of a professional studio mic with its metallic grills. The stand the microphone comes with by default has really good weight to it to support the device, and the base can also be unscrewed and fitted with a suspension arm adapter. Recommendation would be to get both the additional (separate) Pop Filter and Shock Mount for more professional mounting. Recommendation would be to get both the additional (separate) Pop Filter and Shock Mount for more professional mounting. The big draw to this device is the software that is only accessible by the Project Wave microphones. The Wave Link is a software-side mixer allowing you to set up multiple audio outputs and inputs in very much the same way as a professional audio deck - thus negating the need for anything like a GoXLR with a professional XLR microphone. This is really a game-changer, especially if you were going to get into streaming. The software is missing some crucial features, such as being able to set up VST's (Virtual Studio Technology) - such as compression, noise cancellation, and equalization. Biggest drawback is, of course, availability. I was very lucky to be able to order it shipped through the store. The website will not allow you to purchase it, so you would have to actually talk with an advisor/associate inside of the store to get it ordered. That's if the system will even allow them to do so. For those of you waiting on this, hang in there! Corsair/Elgato will more than likely have more coming in soon. All in all, though, the Wave 3 is an excellent device suitable for any streamers looking to get into the hobby without needing to buy a professional XLR microphone and waiting until the GoXLR or other audio decks are no longer being price-gouged. It suits the needs of just about everyone short of the most attentive audiophile.

Great first impression
10 September 2022

Worth it alone for the Wave Link software. I tried out a HyperX Quadcast S prior to this one and was super disappointed by the software. Wave Link allows VST plugins, which allows fine tuning for those with a little background knowledge on audio mixing, such as myself. I'd argue Wave Link's capability is even better than the Blue software - but both are way better than HyperX's. The mic sounds great out of the box too, but I really appreciate the Wave Link software. My criticism is that the physical adjustment knob is on the small side, and it's hard to read (if not impossible) to see the embossed icons on the front of the mic. Kind of minor complaint, and I still very much think it's a great value worth it for the unit.

One of the Best Condenser Microphones

I love Elgato Products. I have used this microphone for almost one year now. I can honestly say it is one of the best condenser microphones on the market. What makes this one so unique is the Wave Link software that comes with it. You can intergrade all your computer audio through Wave Link and put it into OBS. Which makes everything much simpler to manage. There are many videos online that explain how to set it all up. The audio is crisp, clean, and clear. I also bought the pop filter along with it. You will need to buy a microphone stand since the base stand may be too short. Overall this is a fantastic microphone. People have commented so much that my audio sounds good in my videos. One of the best usb streaming mic out there

The build quality is decent and fairly light weight. Looks great on the desk but mic arm is preferred. Features I liked most are the capacitive mute button where hovering your hands above it mutes/unmutes like a breeze. Without any expensive setup, it comes with a software called wavelink where you can control each streaming inputs and outputs to your ideal condition. Best part is the anti distortion/anti clipping where your voice doesn't clip out when you suddenly yell/move too close to the mic. The gain control knob, headphone jack input and pc/mic mix are very useful too. After using this friends complimented improvement in the quality of audio my voice produces. Poor 3.5mm ground loop isolation, distracting indicator lights
12 August 2022

If I were reviewing the quality of the microphone alone, this would get a higher rating, but the analog dials allow for on-the-fly mixing of the 3.5mm audio output. This microphone suffers from persistent white noise on the 3.5mm rear output. I think it's from poor grounding isolation at the hardware level. Elgato's website suggests buying a $10 isolator to fix the problem, which results in a muddying of lower frequencies on the audio out. Also, the indicator lights are bright and distracting. They really need to add a dimming function.

WHY WOULD YOU WANT ANY OTHER MIC???!!!!
27 March 2022

Im happy i went to my local best buy the day i did. This was the last one in stock. I originally went to purchase the Samson mic for 139$. Then i seen the Bluse set up with boom arm for 200$ but that needed a XLR connection so that was a pass. I came across the Elgato set up and loved the sleek look and metal boom arm. I had a bad feeling if i purchased the Samson i wouodnt have been happy so i pulled forced my self to get the Elgato mic. Not just the mic but the whole set up. And WOW, right out the box it sounds professional without any tweaks. I had preprogram sound vocal settings which i use for all of my podcast and this mic enhances those settings x100. If you can find this mic buy it wont be disappointed. Im purchasing the elgato lighting next.

Works fine, the Elgato Wavelink software does not.
24 December 2022

The microphone works fine with Windows and - probably - other software. Well built, sturdy, and attractive. Cons: YMMV but The Wavelink software is ATROCIOUS. The software would play sound, then not play sound... in a continuous vicious cycle. Hit one button, no sound. Hit another button? Sound. Randomly selecting a button would cause the microphone to either produce sound or not. Finally, the software stopped recognizing the microphone at all. Nvidia Broadcast works.
