I have purchased elixir strings from strings direct before and they have been great. I even got 2 packs at the same time and restrung 2 guitars. 1 have been perfectly fine but with the others, the coating has frayed from fingerpicking witching just a couple of days/2 hours of playing. I’m suspecting that these may be counterfeit strings as I’ve had this happen before. It’s just strange that it’s just the 1 set that’s done this. Somehow some counterfeit packs have made their way into a batch?

Really sorry to hear of Greg's disappointment with these strings. I have had a set of 12-53 on my Cargill acoustic for about eight months, and have to report excellent results. Always lots of variables in circumstances, but this is the first set of these strings that I have used, and I will load another set shortly. I consider that they are worth the extra cost over regular acoustic strings.

These strings have been a lifesaver for me. My hands aren't acidic and I easily get a year from them before needing to restring. I use the same brand on my PRS electric, too. (10's). I gig weekly in our church worship band so I prefer a string that holds tone and these just deliver. Super product! I do prefer these over the 80/20 and any poly web version...for tone and I feel the poly version stifles string resonance too much.

I've been wanting to write this review for a few months now. My acoustic is a Taylor 25th anniversary dreadnought model. I recently had a little set up work done in SF California. They recommend at different string that I went ahead and consented them to install. I played the guitar once, then put it back in the case for over a week, when I got it out again the strings were totally dead.... horrible tone. I decided to put on a set of these Elixirs and it was tone to the bone. These a super long lasting as I am now on week 7 of playing them and will maybe get two more gigs out of them. The tone is rich and full with great treble extension. They squeak way less than non coated strings and they just work great. I often play with 2 other pros... one is a well known ... I often play with 2 other pros... one is a well known recording engineer who has made 1,000 albums or more in his career, the other is a professional arranger and pianist, both these guys made comments on the tone of my Taylor saying it was one the best tones they have heard. Anyway, I'd try these strings as for me they have passed the test in tone, long life, and play-ability.
Elixir acoustic strings size 12 are amazing. I use them on my Taylor 114e. They provide a warm crispy sound and the feel is very smooth. You get that low end and the high end as well from these strings. I recommend these strings to all acoustic guitar players, you wont regret it I recommend 100%.
I have used Elixir Nanowebs for years now, i's so hard to find anything comparable. I tried these hoping, and while these strings do last a bit longer than any regular string - they are nowhere near what Elixirs are. I gig every weekend, normally playing for 10 hours. These strings collected grime and oxidised still quite a bit. The Elixirs just simply don't do that anywhere near as much. The Elixirs also take a bit more of a beating. I can normally get 2 weekends out of a set without a breakage, these Morgan strings broke every second gig. So for half the price of Elixirs, these barely make the grade. The feel of the steel strings was quite nice though, they responded and had a great feel to them which I actually preferred over the Elixirs I normally get at the ... All in all, I'll be sticking to Elixirs - if anyone finds a product that does what Elixirs do for cheaper, let me know! For a player who likes a strum every now and then, these strings will do and are pretty well priced. For gigging musicians, you may want something that holds up a bit better.
Yeah these strings are legit. Within a few days of putting these on and breaking them in. They sound amazing. My guitar went from sounding like a £400 guitar to sounding like £1,000. Reccoment you have the brige saddle set up to handle these as they are on the heavy side but the tone is unmatched and the feel on my fingers is so much more softer than any strings I've used before. Definitely buying again after being told to try these. PMT delivered on time undamaged and well packaged. Overall I'm one very happy plucker
These strings will last SOOO MUCH longer than your average string brand. Well worth the price and unless you want to nail a very specific different tone, these are wonderful! On my current guitars I prefer the tone of these as opposed to the brighter 80/20s. The phosphors are full and well rounded, yet still punchy where the 80/20s are bright and even, without being harsh.
Long lasting, great sound. I went to my girlfriends sisters home for Xmas and a few guys got a some guitars out and we played some rock, country and bluegrass on Elixers strung on acoustic instruments. They claimed the strings were three years old. They sounded quite good for their age. After seeing a John Paul Jones interview where he said Elixers were all he used. I already used them but his opinion completely sold me. I even bought an Elixer tee shirt. I use them on all my guitars and mandolins. I won't settle for anything else. I just bought a FX5 that had Addario's on it. No pause, I replaced them with Elixers. Great sound. Long lasting. Stay good looking too. Buy multiple set bundles and save money.
I believe there is good reason Taylor puts these on all their acoustic guitars from the factory. I've tried to make the rounds of past favorites- D'Addario, Martins, etc. also tried other gauges, and materials (80/20s). As soon as the originals go on, it's like that first moment I picked it up and fell in love with my 325CE. Strings are a personal thing, so reviews really aren't the right measure. It is your ear and the feel that counts. Go with your gut, but these are right for me and my guitar.
