The Ember Mug2 was a Christmas gift and accidently spilled coffee into the charging coaster two months latter , shorting out the coaster. I do consider this a design flaw that should be corrected by Ember. Perhaps including a lid for the cup in the package could be a stop-gap effort to avoiding this issue for future customers. Having said that, and after purchasing a replacement (not extra) Charging Coster and a cup lid, I continue to believe this was one of the best gifts I have ever received. I am a 77 years old enthusiastic photographer, spending most of my "home" time in my upstairs office/studio taking and processing images. Our coffee pot is in our downstairs kitchen - - thus the Ember is WONDERFULL AND OUTSTANDING!

I wanted to love my Ember mug, which was a gift to me from my daughter-in-law last February. My mug gets minimal use - maybe two or three times per week for an hour each time. All cleaning is done by hand.Suddenly last week it wouldn't charge - the charger light remained either red or not lit at all. I spent a lot of time trying to find the "sweet spot" on the charger that would engage a light at all. Any response to my efforts was intermittent.A closer inspection of the charger base revealed that one of the two charger posts (the one closest to the center) was depressed - nearly flush with the base!A quick glance over the comments section here verifies that this is an obvious flaw in the workmanship of this product.I do not wish to waste my and my d-i-l's time ... I could save myself the cost and frustration of mailing the failed charger back by buying a new base, but who wants to pay forty dollars to prolong the use of such a poorly-made product?Ember should be ashamed at the number of complaints they get relating to the failure of their chargers.I am sick over this.

My stepson bought white 14 oz mugs for me and his father for Christmas. I've literally used it every single day, and I *should* be leaving 5 star reviews, but I've got issues! By April 3, I was in touch with Ember customer service about replacing my charging coaster, because I had the same problem so many others have had...one of the pins wouldn't come up, and I couldn't recharge my mug. I hadn't even received my replacement yet when my husband's charging coaster died, with the same problem. Customer service was helpful and responsive, and I did get 2 new coasters. I also found a "hack" online and was able get the coasters to charge by putting a small piece of foil on the sunken pin. Annoying but it works. (I'm also really bummed about the staining issue, and believe me, I've used every method I could find online, to no avail. But this is cosmetic, as opposed to functional. )

This is the third replacement charger I've purchased when the charging contacts stuck depressed, unable to make contact with the mug. The product's design is flawed.Obviously, I enjoy my mug. Obviously, I'm a senile old fool to own what has become a $270 coffee cup. To somewhat assuage my shame, I've contributed twice that to a worthy charity despite being an ancient crone subsisting on social security. We loudmouthed, clever thumbed apes are absurd.
I love my Ember mug and have 2 of them. Keeps my coffee or tea just perfect for sipping during the day. There are 2 defects that I wish they would correct 1. The mug lid you click to open and close stops working within a couple of months. I’m on my sixth lid and finally just super glued it to the open position. 2. The charger has 2 prongs that make contact with the base of the mug. The middle pin always becomes depressed after several months and won’t charge. I have tried 3 different varieties of their charger and the same thing happen with each. I’m on number 5 and they cost $39. That said I couldn’t live without my mug. Hope they correct these problems in the future.
As a “slow-drinking” hot beverage enthusiast, the Ember Mug has been a welcomed addition to my daily life as an office-based worker. No more wasteful pouring-out of coffee or tea which has chilled to an undrinkable (ie. “Yucky!”) room-temperature just 30 minutes after prepared. Which is why I have added 2 more Ember Mugs to enjoy at home and on the road! However, perhaps even more impressive than this start-up company’s innovative (and, presumably yet-to-be-replicated) product, is their Customer Service Department’s prompt responses and complimentary replacement of a mug and coaster when I’ve encountered an unlikely issue after long-time product use — much to my consumer-minded satisfaction. While the product remains set at a high price-point (unattainable for the casual hot beverage drinker, or those who thrive off of the crowded coffee house scene and/or enjoy the artificial taste of an industrial plastic lid on a paper cup from stacks of products stored in a dingy and dusty store closet presented from a drive-thru window), I still highly, HIGHLY, RECOMMEND the Ember Mug to other hot beverage enthusiasts who cherish their morning, afternoon and night-time consumption ritual!
Excellent product. My complaint is the charger terminals located on the charger coaster have a tendency to remain retracted, resulting in not keeping beverages hot and not allowing the Ember mug to charge. I meticulously clean the base with an alcohol pad after each use. This keeps the terminal clean. The problem is after 6 months of daily use the spring loaded charger terminals will remain retracted. This is a known problem with the charger stand. The problem is Ember charges to replace the defective charger. Even that this is a known defect. I now need to use an electronic terminal spray to ensure clean contacts and spring. I now need to use an electronic terminal spray to ensure clean contacts and spring. I then apply a light weight liquid oil based lubricant to a toothpick, then lightly touch each terminal with the tip of the toothpick releasing a light film of oil that will permeate the contact and spring. This provides the spring loaded terminals to retract and expand as intended. Please don’t charge us $50.00 to replace a known defective charger. I just ordered a charger base because one of the springs is now permanently retracted. I paid $100.00 for the Ember mug at Costco 8 months ago and now I am paying another $50.00 to replace the charger base with a known product defect.
Works well, so long as it's still working. I'm now on my 3rd!!! coaster. Eventually the metal pins that make contact with the mug start to get stuck in a downward position. If one pin doesn't make contact with the mug, the coaster stops charging. I love my ember dearly but these designs have issues that need to be addressed. I'm patiently waiting for all of these issues to be resolved so I can stop repurchasing and just enjoy my darn coffee. I love my ember system but it's just issue, after issue.
Pins on coaster easily get defective. It should be at least somewhat water resistent, e.g. occasionally spill, condensation, and even washing under a sink. Despite careful use, two of the mug charging bases broke because of the PINs. Poor engineering and design. Yet, I am sure Amber is making $$ through all the replacements. If they didn't, offer free replacements; but they won't cause that would cost them. Fix this Amber; in the end you will see revenue slide over better designs! I would have bought more from you but especially for the holidays...nope.
I was thinking of purchasing a second base for my Ember which arrived yesterday, but after reading the reviews of this ongoing issue with the pin failing and not being addressed by Ember, Im definitely not going to do so.The cost of both mug and replacement base is already ridiculously high for us in Australia. $220 for the mug and $70 for the replacement base, no way am I continuing to fork out for replacement bases when Ember are fully aware its an issue!Either fox the long standing issue OR replace for free regardless of the warranty terms. This is completely unacceptable from a Company who has been well aware of this issue for a long time by the look of the review dates here, if I had read these reviews here first, I would not have even purchased this ...
