Amazing but not built to last

Thankfully, Ember honored their warranty and sent me a new one for free.I've now been using my 2nd cup for 1.5 years and the coating inside is coming off again. It's in a circular patter so I'm starting to wonder if the heating element has something to do with it. Personally I don't want to be drinking tiny pieces of ceramic coating with my coffee. Especially a very expensive mug.I will happily revise my review and opinion once support is received. Until then, I not only can't recommend the product but I must actively advocate to not purchase anything from a company that has a lack of support.

Ceramic Coating peels off
17 August 2024

This is a great concept...BUT, the ceramic coating started peeling on the inside of the cup. I contacted customer service, and this is where the 1 Star comes from. Their initial response was to offer me a "Discount Code" for a new mug, which would end of costing me $82 dollars in total. Buying a new product to replace a defective product is not the proper solution. The solution is admitting you created a defective product that we paid over $150.00 for, and then replacing it for free. They say: but your one year warranty has expired." Well? That is basically saying that at a couple months after your warranty, you can expect the ceramic coating to peel off, thus enabling the "metallic taste" to penetrate my coffee, which is why they coat it in the first place. Now following this companies methodology, if I buy a "discounted" "replacement" mug at $82 every 15 months, I guess that means I need to spend somewhere over $4,000 to use this mug to heat my coffee for the rest of my coffee career. Yeah...no thanks.

Good; not great. Needs much better battery.

I’ve had my mug for four months and use it every day.Likes: I love that it keeps my coffee warm. The handle is nice to hold, and it’s quiet when set down on any surface. The color and tactile experience are superb.Dislikes: The connectivity and battery don’t perform consistently. Full charges overnight (faster charging would be nice) yield varying results, even when I lower the temperature. It often has trouble connecting to the app, but deleting/reinstalling the app seems to have helped. I also dislike how it turns on when I pick it up. It should only turn on when hot liquid is poured in. It does do that, but not every time. There are times it doesn’t turn on at all and I don’t notice until my coffee is getting cold early. It would also be nice if it would shut off when it’s empty, which it doesn’t do.It would also be helpful if it could decrease temperature as the beverage level decreases. The coffee at the bottom is always scalding hot and it cooks milk/creamer onto the bottom surface. So I always have to turn it off before I’m ready.Overall, it’s a good product but needs a much better battery and more thoughtful execution. I’m looking for something that allows me to sip for several hours. This is definitely way better than a standard mug, but it’s not at all clear how the price is justified for what you get. Not sure I’ll recommend it to people until it performs better and more consistently and is priced fairly.

Long lasting hot drinks! Beautiful aesthetic.
8 March 2024

The beautiful white 14 oz mug perfectly fits my minimalist work desk aesthetic.Something I really love about this mug is that I can make a hot cup of coffee or tea in the morning, right before my meetings start, and if it happens to be a really busy meeting for me, by the end of the 1 or 2 hour meeting, my drink is still piping hot and tastes fresh.I will warn that, off the charging coaster, the battery does die pretty fast. But it's still going to stay hot for much, much longer than it would in a normal cup.I'm not sure if that's real gold contacts at the bottom of the cup, but the two gold rings add an almost jewelry like feeling to the mug's already elegant design. And also worth mentoring, the bottom has a rubber like material, making it very silent, even ... MoreThe beautiful white 14 oz mug perfectly fits my minimalist work desk aesthetic.Something I really love about this mug is that I can make a hot cup of coffee or tea in the morning, right before my meetings start, and if it happens to be a really busy meeting for me, by the end of the 1 or 2 hour meeting, my drink is still piping hot and tastes fresh.I will warn that, off the charging coaster, the battery does die pretty fast. When I set my drink down with my left hand, the LED is facing the opposite direction of me. But it is a right-handed world...Really, this is high quality stuff. Absolutely no regrets. Big quality of life improvement. Make sure to put the coaster somewhere you'll be sitting a lot. Not on your kitchen counter, but maybe on your work desk, next to your couch, or even on your nightstand next to your bed if you like spending your time there. The usefulness of this cup is directly related to the amount of time you can keep it powered. And if the charging coaster is where you always are, the cup will never run out of power.

Mug quality is a major issue
12 August 2024

I have really tried to love my ember mug. My first one was given to me as a present. I absolutely loved it in the beginning. The only downside was that the charge didn't last as long as I would have liked but I could live with it. Within 4 months my mug coating was starting to peel/bubble. Ember asked for pictures and then sent me a replacement. This one lasted 2 months and then quit charging. Ember again asked for documentation and sent me a new one. This one seems to be holding up except for some small peeling. So I thought I would buy the bigger size for my summer house in May because I loved it when it worked. I deleted the app, reset the mug which worked for a week. It is now saying it's 140 degrees but the coffee is only lukewarm and this is after about 20 min. I will try again to reset everything but if that doesn't work I give up and am returning it for a refund. It costs way too much for this poor quality. The only pro is that the Ember customer support has been quick to respond and replace but I'm tired of trying to go through all this hassle.

Very awesome, but you might get your heart broken

My spouse and I own 3 of these in black, and it's lovely to drink perfect temperature coffee. #1 is from 2019 or before, #2 from 2020, and #3 a gift from 2023. #1 stopped holding a good off-coaster charge after a few years which isn't a big deal because the coaster is handy at home. The sad thing is the #2 (2020) interior coating peeled badly after 1 year, for no reason, so we stopped using it. We treat all the mugs VERY carefully. They're used for black coffee and rinsed gently by hand. I think we got unlucky with #2. The #1 mug's coating is good so I'm happy with being able to use it for 5+ years. But it's sad we lost use of the #2 mug because they cost SO MUCH. I'm crossing my fingers we're lucky with mug #3. We're not really inclined to splurge money often, these mugs are one of our only crazy purchases in life, because we really enjoy the perfect temperature coffee. I wish they'd replace the defective #2 for free, but it failed past the 1 year mark. I guess my loss is their gain; we ended up with a third mug in the end, so they sold 3 instead of 2.

Weaknesses
15 January 2024

Battery life is rather short, so I stay close to the charging tray. There is a flaw in the design though. The bottom of the cup has seams around the charging rings that retain water even with thorough drying. Then this water deposits on the charging tray and carrodes the charging rings on the tray. Eventually it will do the same to the charging pins. To avoid this I used air sprayers (the ones you use for computer key boards) to blow out the water to dry it. That gets old and it is an extra expense. So I have taken another direction, I have sealed the gaps with Hi-Temp sealant. This works great. I have photos but there is no provision for uploads here. I have two cups and employ the same approach for both cups so I don't have to use the air dryer anymore. Other than ... MoreBattery life is rather short, so I stay close to the charging tray. Other than that, it is a little annoying that the battery doesn't last very long, so I bought a couple of extra trays to locate where I work to help keep the cup heated. It's fine like that, but don't plan on pouring a cup and heading out to work in the garage for very long or you will find a cold cup of coffee that you can't microwave. You'll have to buy extra trays for wherever you work.

Wouldn’t Purchase Again, Would Return If I Could

It doesn’t always work. It takes a VERY long time to get to the requested temperature. I can be waiting over five minutes and it has only dropped 1° in temperature. The charger doesn’t always work. The app doesn’t always work. I don’t get a notification when it is at the set temp all the time. Sometimes the mug dies right away when I am trying to use it. Also, for the price of this mug, it shouldn’t be tarnished or change colors with tea. I brewed a tea mixture that’s sold in stores, and the inside of my mug is now orange/copper. I purchased the Pink Metallic one. For this price, this is absurd. I contacted customer service when it all happened and they wanted me to send videos of the mug working and not working although I had pictures and time stamps of everything. ... MoreIt doesn’t always work. I have maybe used this mug five times since I’ve purchased it a year ago. I was planning to purchase one each for my family members (total of 5) since they are huge tea drinkers and always brewing a new pot. I can’t justify purchasing this. Especially when ones on Amazon have similar features and only $20-$30. I would not purchase this again.
