A great square.
Dropped and broke my previous combination square which was my main "go to" square for whatever I'm doing. Checked against my Veritas square this Empire is very accurate and so I'm more than happy with it.
Very well made square and most importantly is spot on accurate. No dressing required. Rule is very clearly etched and runs smoothly (after a squirt of WD40.) Well worth paying a couple of 's more for a quality piece of kit.
I really like this combination square, it’s solid and durable. The locking screw is easy to loosen and tighten with one hand and 400 mm is big but not too big
I used to have a Stanley made in the UK but the new ones are all made in china.This Empire is made in the USA and it's the only one with an accurate spirit level.Tried all the Stanley ones and the bubble was out on the whole lot.
Unlike the previous excellent model which was a true 400mm, the new True Blue is a cheap nasty exercise of cost cutting where some overpaid clueless deskbound idiot tries to save money by re-using the existing 16inch ruler reprinted to millimetres... This has the effect of making the ruler 407mm not 400mm and the top and bottom numbers not correlating.. Not a problem sitting behind a desk adding up figures, but as a carpenter, this once excellent tool is now useless and not fit for purpose. With this sort of thinking I will never trust the Empire brand again...
