Very comfortable neck to play on (I was used to Ibanez wizard necks before) and it has sustain for days. Great sounding pickups beating in mind I currently practice through a Spark modelling amp so I can’t comment on its analogue tone. Hold tune perfectly despite me constantly changing from E to E minor to drop D. The case is great quality and fits like a glove. This guitar is an absolute bargain at this price. Excellent service from the guys in store at Romford PMT. Thanks boys, I’m a very happy chap!

The sound of the pickup is excellent. I've had an Epiphone LP before, but the Slash version is better. The factory setup is very good.Neck Profile: Slash Custom C-Shape is great for me,Tuners: Epiphone Deluxe Keystones look beautiful and hold tune very well. The frets on the guitar should be polished a little better, but it's not a problem to do.Epiphone slash is best bay with Musik Store sale.I am very happy, I bought an excellent guitar at a discounted price.

It sounds and plays great. I love it. Note, always put a new set of strings on a guitar that comes with strings on it. It's a simple fix for a lot of problems you thought you had, but don't. Who knows how long they've been on or what brand they are. Now, the details. Frets were perfectly level, no sharp ends. Slight amount of oxidization. I polished the crowns and ends with Micro-Mesh pads. I used 6000>8000>12,000 grit pads. I wasn't taking metal off, just polishing them to a jewelery finish. Really makes bends and vibrato silky and smooth. I do that to all my guitars.I like the Indian laurel fingerboard. It's a good alternative to rosewood. I cleaned it with alcohol, then applied a very light amount of fingerboard oil/conditioner. Let it sit a few minutes then wiped it dry. It has a beautiful look and feel now.As for setup, the only thing that was set correctly was the intonation. So I lowered the bridge to the (low) action I like, and it was pretty clean, a little buzz on the upper frets. The neck was trussed completely flat, so I loosened the truss rod about 1/4 turn and that gave it the right amount of relief. No more buzz.Next, I filed the nut slots slightly wider and deeper. Action was too high off the nut. I use XL strings (9-42) and the slots were even too tight for them! That was the only real glaring problem on this guitar. Tight nut slots cause tuning issues and your average customer isn't going to have the tools or skills to fix that. I have a set of precision nut slotting files and feeler gauges to cut them to the proper depth. Man, that was the magic touch. The action is amazing now, all the way up the neck. No problems with tuning stability. And that's all I needed to do. It plays like a dream. I thought I would need to swap out the pickups but I like these. I'm old and play mostly classic rock, and these sound just right for the Les Pauls of that era. I get that sound that Gary Richrath (REO Speedwagon), early Joe Walsh, Duane Allman, Dicky Betts, Joe Perry, Page, Billy G, had in the late 60's - 70's. I ran it through a Goat distortion simulator and got Tom Scholtz Boston sound perfectly. It was actually better than another LP I have with DiMarzio super distortion pups. Easier to control the overdrive. All in all, Epiphone has really raised their bar. If you have typical electric guitar setup skills, you'll make this a sweet playing guitar. If you don't, it's worth it to find someone who does. Just a few minor adjustments and you'll have a fine axe to play.

Get the Ltd. Ed. 1959 LP Std. instead; or upgrade pickups
7 July 2021

Playing a wall full of Epi LPs at a well-stocked GC, this model was by far the best-sounding - even with similar Epi ProBucker pickups. The '50s deep neck and long-tenon neck joint add a huge amount of tone and sustain.Still, the best-sounding affordable singlecut was actually a PRS SE 245, so that's what I bought. Comparing neck pickups, the PRS drooled much more of the rich, juicy, complex goodness that sings "Les Paul."The problem is that Epi pickups are consistent - consistently awful. So if you want something with classic LP styling, sold by Gibson instead of PRS, note that Epi (and GC) currently sell a "Limited Edition 1959 Les Paul Standard." It's this same guitar, except with U.S. Gibson Burstbucker 2 & 3 pickups. Those pickup upgrades are well worth the extra $200.But this model is actually a fine platform if you prefer to do your own pickup upgrades. A Gibson 57 Classic neck pup and a PRS 85/15 S bridge pup are a match made in heaven for a LP. But then you'll need to work around Epi's infuriatingly proprietary "Quick Connect" wiring.Epi last did a limited run of '50s-spec LPs back around 2009, so it's great that these are back in production. The fat neck and long-tenon joint aren't just checklist items for traditionalist posers - they're essential ingredients in the classic recipe that defined late-'50s LPs as the Golden Age of guitar tone. And I did also buy an Epi LP, to go with my pair of Harley Bentons. It's a LP Modern Figured, with a scooped-out small heel and beautiful aesthetics. Sounded awful (spiky and brittle) with stock pickups. But after swapping on a pair of PRS 85/15 S pups, it's a bottomless ice canyon of rich, shimmering tone. It and the SE 245 are now the pick of my large litter.

Great Purchase and 1 year later review
9 December 2022

After a year since I purchased it, the guitar plays, looks and feels almost like the real thing. It is a Slash fan's dream guitar for less than the actual Gibson model so you can't go wrong with it as long as you are aware there is the actual Gibson costing 3 times more so there is, and always be a difference. As an example the thin veneer top used on the Epiphone whilst Gibson mounts a thick top, the different pick ups mounted, the woods used for each one's body....it is all adding and the difference is there.Since it came out, there has been a lot of controversy regarding the pick ups but to me they sound perfectly fine though one star less on price/performance since it should have indeed mounted either duncans or actual gibson pickups. Will not regret it, I would of course have preferred to pay a bit less for it but do not regret buying it almost upon release and full price since it has given me a great year. One thing I found not being in line with the guitar were the Epi-Strap locks, way too rough and really hard to push in but worse to pull out, so I exchanged these to black Schallers, and each time I hear the smooth click, I am comfortable and feel the guitar is secured but has a smooth mechanism.A real treat both visually but most important, at a musical level. Would not mind having a wall with all the modelsAlso the case is totally sick, love it with the Tip Top Hat Skully! R'N'F'R' indeed Saul.

At my age, my gigging days or over, and I didn't want to make a big investment. I took a chance on this sharp-looking Metallic Gold Epiphone Standard 50s style Les Paul. If only we had machines with this quality at such a good price point when I was banging around clubs. This thing is solid. All the controls and toggle switch are quality. It'll take some bumps, and the neck is like butter. Just like it's pricey big brothers, it feels and plays like a Les Paul...because it is. At about 9lbs, it's a little chunky--and it roars. The Probuckers do run a little hot. But you can use the tone controls and volume to tame them. If you don't want to tame them, just enjoy the growl. And don't forget about the sustain. Not Your Ordinary Epiphone
25 August 2022

The nay-sayers online read the specs of this guitar and decide they don't like it. Take one home, set it up properly and play it thru your own rig. It's a killer Les Paul. The pickups are not the ordinary Epiphone Probuckers. They are the Epiphone clones of the Gibson Custombuckers, and they sound great. Clean and dirty. The fit and finish on my Gold Victoria is about perfect. The neck feels really great and the nut is cut well. The reviewer who mentioned the dull finish on the '59 is absolutely right. I also own the '59 and although it is a good guitar, I can't get past its cheap looking finish. The Slash model is a super-nice gloss. The way a new guitar should be. The hard shell case is a cool bonus. This guitar is definitely a keeper.

I am by no means a Les Paul expert.. I just know the guitar I purchased, and other Les Pauls / humbucker guitars I've had or have. This thing sounds excellent. The action is perfect, the intonation was perfect out of the box, the hardware is excellent, even the jack port has a strong tight hold on my cables. Everything you would expect to feel while playing a high quality guitar is present here on the 50s Standard. The real surprising part, though, is how immaculate this guitar is. I have owned Epiphones in the past, but this is on an entirely different level. I was unable to find any cosmetic flaws with this guitar.. (ouch.)The only complaint I could have, but this is with all (non-weight reduction) Les Paul guitars, is that this thing weighs on me heavier than my poor life decisions. This thing has some HEFT. I have 11 guitars around my home office and this is literally the only one that I had to mount its hanger into wood. The rest are anchored into drywall.. I tried this, and it ripped the anchors out after about 30 minutes of placing and retrieving the guitar while recording. In reality though, this is an expectation with a full mahogany guitar and not a true con.

The Perfect, Imperfect Les Paul

I'll start by saying I was super super hesitant to get a Slash Epiphone Les Paul. I like GNR but I am by no means a fan-boy. I am not Slash or will I ever be able to play like Slash. I have an Inspired By Gibson Epiphone ES-335 and was impressed with the quality so I was open minded to a Epiphone LP. I am a hobbyist so it's hard to justify the huge upcharge for the Gibson name, especially with the great quality Epiphone is pumping out.I was wavering between the Epi LP 50 standard, '59, and Slash because I wanted a chunkier neck that these three only seemed to provide. Though the '59 is probably the best bang for your buck, I wasn't a fan of the fact they all have the aged look. I love a glossy/ polished looking guitar- so the '59 wasn't doing it for me. Though the '59 is probably the best bang for your buck, I wasn't a fan of the fact they all have the aged look. I love a glossy/ polished looking guitar- so the '59 wasn't doing it for me. I know some people dig the aged look and I get it, but it ain't for me. I didn't go with the 50 standard because the colors didn't speak to my soul even though it had the polish I was looking for.Which brings me to the Slash collection. Man... I was really digging the Anaconda and Vermilion Burst. I loved that it wasn't the traditional colors. In my opinion (that means absolutely nothing), I think these non-traditional colors gives the timeless Les Paul more personality. I searched far and wide until I found a Slash LP with the top I liked the most. I settled on the Anaconda Burst because I think a green-flamed Les Paul is just the coolest thing since sliced bread. Here's the thing... This isn't the best valued Epi Les Paul. It's a signature guitar, which you pay more for the artist royalties. The pick-ups are nothing to be impressed about. I'll probably end up upgrading them. It doesn't have a rosewood finger-board (it's Indian Laurel). The Epi Les Paul customs have an ebony finger-board and are cheaper. The Jerry Cantrell's Signature Epiphone LP Custom has an ebony finger-board, a case, and that beautiful diamond headstock; It still manages to be cheaper than this. The Epi LP '59 comes with a case, has Gibson USA pick-ups, AND is cheaper. If you want a good "Bang for your buck" guitar, this is not it. This is not a guitar you get for "the value". Not to mention, since the Slash collection is now going to be apart of the regular line-up, it won't hold it's value like other signature models that come out temporarily (though my understanding is that the Anaconda and Vermilion burst are limited runs so maybe those will be the ones that hold value).Bottom line, if you're the person who values specs and value, look else where. This is a guitar you get because you WANT it. Period. And that should be the only reason you need to get this.Despite all the flaws, all the alternative options, all the better Epi values out there, I love this. I feel like I own a proper Les Paul. I love the chunky neck, I love the proper weight, I love the AAA maple top, the piece of Indian Laurel on mine looks beautiful and dark, and it feels well crafted despite being made in the Far East. The pick-ups can always be changed. But the weight, feel, and looks are much, much harder to tweak.Play the guitar you want, not what a reviewer on YouTube or the internet says is the best. I wanted this despite everything I ranted on about and still couldn't be happier.

This is a Real Les Paul

Just for reference, I currently own a 2019 Gibson Les Paul Traditional, an Epiphone '59 Les Paul Outfit, a new Epiphone Les Paul Adam Jones "Veil of Bees" Custom, and now this Epiphone Les Paul Standard 50's in Heritage Cherry Burst. I play heavy blues, rock and some stoner sludge.I've been playing Les Pauls almost exclusively for 30 years now, I've owned dozens of them, both Gibson and Epiphone, I'm not saying that makes me an expert, but it does give me experience, and this new Standard holds its own against any guitar I've owned, past or present. My Epiphones of the past felt more like toys than professional instruments. Not any more.First of all the neck: it's a big ol' chunky handful of wood, and it feels and plays great. This is now my favorite neck shape to play. The top is really beautiful, pictures do it no justice. This guitar is heavy, too, almost 9-1/2 pounds, which I also prefer.I also think the Probucker 1&2 pickups sound really good. Just take a few minutes to dial them in. Much better than the 490's that Gibson is using in the Tribute model. (Which I also owned, and sold) I've been playing this thru my Marshall JCM and my Boss Katana, and there is no denying the tone is pure Les Paul. I prefer this guitar in many ways over my '59. Mostly because this has a much nicer top and a GLOSS finish. (The Satin finish on the '59 is pretty underwhelming, but it does play great). Is it a "good" as a Gibson? That varies from guitar to guitar, but it's a great Les Paul at a great price. The hardware and electronics all work great, it stays in tune for DAYS.All guitars have their own personality, I've played good and bad guitars that were the same year, make & model. If you're in the market for a heavy, fat-necked (as they should be) Les Paul that plays great, sounds great and looks amazing, you can't go wrong with this one.
