(Why should the machine's color determine price or capability?)If you create an Epson account, be sure to check your machine's warranty status. Even though I promptly registered the machine, my machine's warranty as shown on my account was listed incorrectly. (Wrong dates.) Emails and a call to Epson were frustrating. The issue was still unresolved a week after purchase, but I remain hopeful. In any case, I have a receipt.

Don't know how this printer will be in the future but for now I am happy.

I purchased the ET-4850 for the office about 6 months ago. The purchase was a little difficult because it was hard to find one in stock but eventually Best Buy had a few. I had previously purchased an ET-8550 for home use so I had a reasonable idea as to what I was getting. I also reviewed the ET-8550 and while it's a great printer for what I use it for, it wouldn't have been a good replacement for the office printer. We needed the ET-4850 because we still need the ability to FAX. Normally we aren't high volume and our printing tends to be just a few pages most of the time or a large document of a few hundred pages once in a while (our insurance company is pretty wordy). Normally the printer is fast enough however it tends to be a bit on the slow when printing on ... MoreI purchased the ET-4850 for the office about 6 months ago. Normally the printer is fast enough however it tends to be a bit on the slow when printing on both sides of the paper. That isn't a big deal because I can do other things while I am waiting for the output.Ink consumption is pretty good but we aren't going to get two years out of the factory supplied ink. On the other hand, older printers would have gone through several cartridge changes by now so we are already saving money on ink. It is nice being able to actually view the remaining ink because it gives you a better idea when to order ink and you know you aren't throwing away unused ink just because the printer thinks the cartridge is empty. I have also seen cases where the printer under estimates ink usage and a color will run dry while you are printing. This helps reduce wasted ink needed to clean the printer heads. I have had to clean them a couple of times when the printer went unused for over a week but this is less than with other printers. The black ink tank is twice the size of the color ink tanks which is important for an office printer. Black tends to be the most commonly used and more ink storage means you have to service the printer less often. Even with the huge ink tank, the black ink level is dropping faster than the color ink levels. As with any Epson printer, allow sufficient time to set the printer up. You should do the head alignment as it will result in your output looking much better. In my case, I needed to fix the IP address of the printer so the computers don't lose track of it should the printer need to be cycled. This printer has a 250 sheet input hopper for paper which is half a pack of copy paper. That has pretty well eliminated running out of paper because when you think it about time to add paper, there is usually a fair amount left. Double side printing extends the paper supply even longer resulting in the printer being even more economical to operate. We are using the printer with a WiFi connection even though the printer is close enough to easily cable it. WiFi would allow you much more freedom in placing the printer and normally it shouldn't have much of an impact on printer speed. In our case, WiFi just means one less cable to deal with. This printer is used with both both Apple and Dell computers. The only problem is with the Dell where the printer appears off line even though the Apple thinks the printer is usable. If you attempt to use the Microsoft diagnostic software on the printer, it will find no problems and the printer will start working. I suspect this is a Microsoft bug and hopefully it will get fixed soon. For that matter, it may be fixed already because we haven't seen the failure in over a month. There are applications where a laser printer is still superior however if you're not doing a huge volume of printing or you need quality color, this printer may be exactly what you're looking for.

This is the first time buying a printer with refillable ink. My previous wf5620 printer just stopped working and i was tired of trying to figure out how to fix it but it was old. The et-4850se printer was pretty easy to set up. I followed the instructions on the screen on the printer and the phone app. I was worried about filling the ink and spilling but that didn’t happen. I did wait to set up the printer when i had time with no distractions. As part of the set up you have to select the best printed samples with the better alignment and least white lines- sometimes hard to tell between a couple samples but the printing is fine. I like that i can see how much ink is in printer by just looking at the front of the printer. When comparing models I had to make sure the fax option was included. To me, it's not an all in one printer without that. It doesnt have the option for legal size paper, but i never used that option in my old printer so it was not an important feature for me. The scannerworked fine also. The touch pad on the printer is small but i have not had any issues using it. I like that I can print easily from my phone. Happy with my purchase and would recommend to a friend.
I previously owned an Epson Workforce inkjet. It was an excellent printer but I used a substitute ink and the nozzle wouldn't clear. That printer was at least 7 years old so I looked forward to purchasing a new printer with the ink tank. This ET-4850 was a great purchase. I had to spend extra to get a paper tray and be able to automatically select print on both sides but it was worth it. The setup was reasonably simple, connecting to wi-fi took a few tries but everything else was prompt-driven. The copy quality is good although I haven't printed any pictures on photo-quality paper yet. It's relatively quiet. Even though the display is small it can be configured for the layout that best suits your needs. I love the smart scan features which are a big improvement. I highly recommend this printer and believe Epson quality will allow it to perform for many years.
Everything about this EcoTank ET-4850 is great with one exception; the size of the display screen. I literally have to use a magnifying glass every time I need to look at the display screen, which is often. The screen is plenty bright and the graphics are good. However, the screen is just way too small. Other than that, this is a great piece of gear. It prints fast and the quality of the prints are sharp and crisp. The included ink lasts forever and is so much better than the old school cartridges. Not to mention, there is never any ink mess to clean up. I also like the fact that you can load a few hundred pages of paper in the paper cartridge. Another great feature is this machine's small foot print. It's very quite, also. Some printers sound like an automobile factory during the printing process. Not this one. I wanted the black version, but when I need mine, white was only available. The color of the printer was not really a deal breaker for me, but I just think the black looks stealthier and more modern. That is really subjective, though. At least white is much easier to see at night when the lights are low and that is a big plus. All in all, I'm very happy with this All-In-One device. It does everything it is supposed to do and does it well. It's a little on the pricey side, as with everything else these days, but I'm happy I spent the money. I researched every printer out there by every different brand and I came to the conclusion that this ET-4850 was the best bang for the buck and would serve my needs, accordingly. If it were not for that tiny display, this machine would be worthy of 5 stars. I almost want to give it 5 stars, anyway because this device is really a nice piece of gear in every respect. But if I'm being 100% honest, I have to give a 4 star rating, solely, due to that small hard to see display. If you have perfect vision, the display may not be an issue for you. In that case, buy an Epson ET-4850. You'll be glad you did!
I don't know about you, but over the last few years, we've not had great success with printers lasting. Our last printer, which cost close to $500 made it just 14 months, before the Wifi Radio died in it, making it impossible to print wirelessly. And it was a top brand printer from a top brand company. So I did a lot of research, and found people simply were happier with an Epson printer and seem to have fewer issues and they simply last longer. We chose this Epson EcoTank ET-4850 for a few reasons. There is one model just below it, which is pretty much identical, but instead of a touch screen, it has physical buttons you have to use to get to things like scan or copy or print. For the few extra dollars, this just seemed a more complete package for convenience of use.Setting it up is simple. At least it was for us. You download the Epson Smart Panel App from your iOS or Android Smart phone. You fill the tanks with the liquid ink, which is beyond simple and pretty much idiot proof. I mean you just open the bottles, turn then upside and place the color on the color coded reservoirs in the printer and the ink self discharges to fill the ink chamber. Then the app walks you through connecting it to your network (though I did make the mistake of using Wifi Direct, which I shouldn't have and easily switched to standard Wifi connection) and soon you're aligning the print heads and printing out test pages (it does have you print out several test pages and you choose which option looks best to your eyes - which was a bit confusing). And then voila, it's set up and ready to use.The ink supplied is enough for up to two years of hassle free printing. No more buying little cartridges, which are expensive and need replacing far too often. The ET-4850 offers fax, productive paper handling, a high-resolution flatbed scanner, and convenient 2.4" color touchscreen, fax (if anyone actually still faxes - we don't!) and holds up to 250 sheets of printer paper. Epson says the printer can print up to 7,500 pages black or 6,000 pages color which is equivalent to about 90 individual ink cartridges. That's SIGNIFICANT for sure.In terms of printing, which is after all the most important aspect of a printer, Epson uses a unique "PrecisionCore Heat-Free Technology" and "Claria ET pigment black ink to produce extremely sharp text – plus impressive color photos and graphics." While I'm not quite sure what that all means, I can tell you it prints exceedingly well with nice crisp text and colors. All said, I'm extremely impressed with this Epson EcoTank ET-4850. And with a worry-free 2-year limited warranty with registration, including full unit replacement. How could you go wrong! This printer gets a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating from me for sure!
This printer's greatest strength is the liquid ink. Easy to fill with absolutely no mess at all and the cost is sooooooo much lower than HP Inkjet ink. We also like its small footprint. But otherwise, it's been nothing but problems for us.The clarity of the copy just sucks -- even after repeated attempts to align the print heads. Fuzzy, jags in lines, etc. Makes it VERY difficult to see small fonts. The USB port is buried inside the back of the machine, making it impossible to use some connectors due to the recessed port and the bulky housing around it. And even after purchase of a connector that physically works, I can't get the printer to send a PDF file through the connector after scanning. It runs through it's routine, but doesn't send the scanned file ... MoreThis printer's greatest strength is the liquid ink. It runs through it's routine, but doesn't send the scanned file through the connector. No error message either. The printer constantly indicates "the wrong sized paper has been inserted" when it's Office Depot's standard thickness 8.5 x 11 inch paper! This happens about 20% of the time. And perhaps the most frustrating problem with the printer is it's constant error message that it is 'Out of Paper', even though there are 100+ sheets in the carrier, pushed up nicely against the back stop.Another problem is the exit tray. It's very flimsy and eventually starts dumping pages on the floor.Overall, if I could give the printer a "0" I would. Confined to a wheelchair, I really have tried to find a way to accept its other problems. But after five months, we've finally had enough and are going to return it. Still not sure whether a different Epson model might work. I love the ink system, but the rest of the printer's problems are just too great.

I use it for my work from home and I required an all-in-one with fax, and I needed for my work from home, and I use this printer daily. Yes, printers with ink tanks are more expensive up front, but we will save so much now that we are not getting cartridges.I saw a lot of reviews with specific issues that I believed it could be the way some people go about setting up their printer. I used the USB plug in and ran the disk that came with it to install everything I needed on my computer. It does take a little time more to install it all and get the printer ready to print, but it was honestly very easy. The Epson Alexa can be setup to print out our grocery list once a week and print our grocery list through the Epson Alexa app every week, and it works every time.
If you purchase this printer be ready to be very frustrated in getting it setup and working. It only took me 3 hours of frustration.Make sure that after you fill it with ink the first time that you only use your phone to set up the printer. Only connect power and nothing else. Follow the instructions in the start up guide carefully step by step. After you turn the printer on it will display a image you can take a picture of on your phone to install the printer software on you phone. The phone will use Bluetooth to connect to the printer and start the firmware update etc. I could never get this to connect because I had already connected the printer to my home network via a RJ45 connection. The phone will use Bluetooth to connect to the printer and start the firmware update etc. I could never get this to connect because I had already connected the printer to my home network via a RJ45 connection. The product registration on a PC or Mac will not accept the correct serial number. Only my phone would take the serial number from the printer and allow me to register the printer with Epson. I tried this on both Mac and PC with the correct serial number and the software said I had entered an invalid serial number. But the same serial number worked on the Phone.Oh, and the big step is you have to hold the Question mark button down for 5 seconds to get the printer to prime itself with ink. There are no software instructions telling you to do this step. Then you can add the balance of ink from each bottle into the printer again. The touch display is so small that it is almost worthless and unusable. The ADF feeder on top that does scans jammed after 2 uses and had to be reset. The printer does not recognize Mac computers for scanning but will recognize that Windows computers exist on the network for scanning documents even though I was able to eventually get the Mac to do a scan. The Fax software is not automatically installed and you have to do that manually on both the Mac and PC. Epson has a lot of work to do to improve their software for this series of printers. I hope the printer actually works.
