A great printer for the home office

After killing a different printer through overwork, it was time to upgrade. Having owned Epson printers before, they were near the top of the list. Looking for the ability to handle around 500 pages a week with a duplex scan capability without breaking the bank, and the WF 7845 ticked all those boxes. The output quality is excellent while the duplex scanning and Epson smart scan app is easy and intuitive to use with the ability to individually name files without extraneous characters added by the software.Pros - paper capacity, duplex scanning, priceCons - a little noisier than previous printers and a bit larger than expected.

Doesn't print A3
13 March 2023

So disappointed with this printer. We bought it as it could print A3. But it won't. We have to jump through hoops, eventually managing to print from an android phone to A3, but now even that doesn't work. The drivers can't be installed on our office computers. Now it won't even work with the ridiculous workaround, so it's a massive big paper weight.

Great print quality
5 July 2023

Replaces a 12 year old but very similar printer from another maker. It's biggest problem was clogging printhead. Time will tell if this WF-7845 is better, I certainly hope so. Installation was very easy.... except it took me some time to figure out how the paper trays work. You see, to load A3 paper you have to extend the paper cassettes, and that was nowhere explained - first I thought this printer can only use the rear paper tray for A3, only then I found out the cassettes are made of 2 parts that slide into each other. All good now. This printer has a good wifi antenna, works fine quite a distance away from my router, I am surprised and pleased. I would buy this again.... but I have two other printers, a color laser for high volume and photo printer for photos. ... MoreReplaces a 12 year old but very similar printer from another maker. So I mainly use this for it's large scanner as a copier and to print out A3 documents, on average likely just a couple page per day, so the very expensive ink cartridges do not worry me too much. If this was my only printer, it would cost me way too much to run and I would rather go with an ink tank printer!

Great value A3 printer and scanner for low volume
18 February 2023

This is a reasonably priced printer at sub $400. The big win is A3 printing and scanning (double sided for some combinations). It is compact by comparison. Hunt around for a full set of cartridges because, like most other printers the cartridges in the kit may not last long. Printing is relatively quick and the colour good. Network scanning to computer is good too. There was one instance where it refused to scan double sided A4 in colour via the auto sheet feeder, but I have not worked out the specific limitations. The documentation is very poor in terms of precise detail for what is and is not supported. Also, more common across many manufacturers.

Not a good office machine
2 February 2023

Firstly, I don't recommend buying factory refurbished machines. This printer has a faulty head which, after multiple and various maintenance attempts is still faulty. Epson service is required after only 3 months use. The machine is ink thirsty and now refuses to print in colour. This product has hindered my business and cost more overall than a laser printer. Not recommended for small business.

Works fine but grainy print quality
11 March 2023

The good:- Does what it says on the tin, prints and scans up to A3 (haven’t tried A3+ and haven’t tried faxing, who uses fax though?)- When you start a print job it automatically opens the tray where paper comes out - great as sometimes we are using a computer in a different room, saves a trip to the printerThe bad:- Print quality is poor, very grainy and lacks sharpness. Colours are dull and I am using the included Epson branded cartridges. I have used all the printer nozzle cleaning and alignment functions to try to fix. My expectations of a home printer are not high but this is noticeably bad- Tries to make you download their stupid app and register an account, no I don’t want your bloatware and set up yet another unnecessary account with my personal ... MoreThe good:- Does what it says on the tin, prints and scans up to A3 (haven’t tried A3+ and haven’t tried faxing, who uses fax though?)- When you start a print job it automatically opens the tray where paper comes out - great as sometimes we are using a computer in a different room, saves a trip to the printerThe bad:- Print quality is poor, very grainy and lacks sharpness. I think all printer brands make you do this though, so not much different- Not a big deal but the paper trays can only hold A3 if they are extended and have to hang openAlso, this thing is huge and you have to leave extra room behind it to be able to extend the rear tray to feed paper in that way (you would use it for cardstock and any paper you can’t bend much)Overall it’s fine I guess and I will continue to use it to print A3 signage for events at home, greeting cards and kids arts and crafts, but if I want good quality posters and invitations printed I’ll still have to get them printed professionally

Works like a charm
13 June 2021

Upgraded from a old EPSON Artisan 837 and the difference has been remarkable. Always had flaky wireless connections with the Artisan 837 but with the new WF-7845, have not had a single problem in this area. So easy to scan / print from julitple devices including ipads etc. Doyble sided printing is so easy. A key consideratio for us was the larger dimenons scanning area and it has been fantastic. Have not had to print image est and cant comment on printing costs as we dont really do a lot of printint per say but when we do,we need it to work reliably and seamlessly. This one has been doing faultlessly. We would bu agai.
