Versatile Product. I've run out of my normal hot chocolate drink and forgot to replenish so i'm currently using the the coco & coacoa powders that I have in the pantry. I've been using the brown sugar as a sweeter for my drinks and I've loved the flavor that this brown sugar adds. Also, the weather is warming up and the bananas are ripening faster than I can eat them. I was happy to get this sample as the molasses/caramel flavor of the brown sugar is a perfect partner for ripe bananas. I used the following recipe to make banana bread. 3 Large Ripe Bananas (mashed)2 cups All-Purpose Flour ¾ cup Brown Sugar 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder1 teaspoon Baking Soda1 teaspoon Salt1 stick Butter (melted)2 Large EggsOptional Ingredients:3/4 cup chocolate chips (add to batter). 3/4 ... MoreVersatile Product. It’s up to you. Just don’t exceed one cup in total. Cooking:Add all the dry ingredients together, then add the eggs, melted butter, and mashed bananas and mix all together until you get a thick batter. You can can mix it by hand or use a mixer. Spread batter evenly into a greased pan and bake until a cake tester inserted into the center of the pan comes out clean. Great product. reasonably priced. Perfect for a lot of baked goods. Definitely another product for the Pantry.

Good value but coarse. This is a good value alternative for baking however it isn't quite the same as the CSR that I usually buy. The taste is only very slightly different, probably undetectable in baking. It's hard to put my finger on the difference, I'd probably say the CSR has a rounder flavour and the woolworths a sharper, sweeter flavour. The biggest difference is the texture. The grains are noticeably coarser and I found it didn't dissolve as well in the sauce of my chocolate pudding. Straight on the tongue the CSR immediately feels like it starts to dissolve, the woolworths feels like chewing sugar. I imagine this is the type of product that might vary batch to batch however I think I will continue to purchase CSR when it is on special, due to the coarseness ... MoreGood value but coarse. Tasty and lovely in baking. I have a brand name brown sugar pack in my pantry so I compared it to this essentials brand, and taste wise, there was almost no difference at all. This one is just as good. It has a beautiful caramely smell when the pack is opened, the texture and size is just right and it is beautiful when used in baking (I made a chocolate cake with it). Great that's it's made in Australia - supporting our sugar cane farmers is important! The only suprise was how small the price difference between this Essentials Brand ($3. 40/kg) and a Brand like CSR ($3. 80 per kg) is. I would probably buy the CSR one when it's on special as the packaging just looks so much nicer. I'd expect a bigger price difference when buying an essentials product, compared to a ... MoreTasty and lovely in baking. Better than the top brands. What's not to love about a product that tastes great, is cheaper than the top brands, is grown in Oz & is grown sustainably! Yikes, I'd give 10 stars for that alone. I love the Essentials Range when a great product like this is put out for us shoppers. Most of us are doing it tough these days & to get a product that is quite a bit cheaper & is equal to a named brand is a BONUS!It made terrific salted caramel for my slice. In our Family we call the recipe "diabetes on a plate" (we're always joking in our Family and not very serious people) but if you only have it once in a while, you want it to be to top notch & with this sugar, it is. It's not too dark (some are) but it has enough molasses (?) to give it an extra leg up from white sugar in the same recipes. All in all, a very good product. Thank you, Woolies/Bunch xx
Ant Attack. Well the plan was to use this whole packet in several ways : taste this in coffee (husband) and to use it for baking a cake (me), and making fudge (me) and then do a review on the taste, texture and ease of use, etc.... Unfortunately, the ants got there first and secondFirst they were attracted to the unopened packet, so I put that packet in another packet to protect itWent to open to use a day or so later, and the little buggers had broken through two layers of plastic, and were swarming through the sugar. I literally tasted one grain and then decided probably wasn't the best idea to consume anymore, as goodness knows where those pesky ants had been prior. Therefore, my rating is for value for money and size, rather than taste and texture. A big thumbs ... MoreAnt Attack. Turns out to be "sustainable sugarcane" - interesting. BTW : The ants say too
Essentials WW Brown Sugar. This 1kg sample pack of WW Essentials brown sugar arrived just in time as I was getting low in stock. I usually buy what’s on special. I love the versatility of brown sugar in both sweet and savoury recipes such as meat and poultry rubs, brown sugar chicken, biscuits cakes and desserts. Made with percent cane sugar as it’s branded competitor. The nutritional information states that the sodium per 100g is 21mg but the CSR brand is only 5mg per 100g The cost is $3. 40 ($0. 34c/100g) compared to CSR is $4. 30 ($0. 43c/100g) $0. 90c price difference. I like to use this particularly as an ingredient in my homemade rubs for meat and poultry. Great product, Thank you for the opportunity to review.
Perfect for baking. I’m not sure if I have ever purchased this in the past but as someone who thoroughly enjoys baking, I knew exactly where to find it in my local Woolworths store. I used this sugar predominately when baking, but also added it to a curry and even cups of tea or coffee when guests came over (I didn’t have regular white sugar in the cupboard, so this was the best I could offer for sugar). I liked that this brown sugar didn’t clump in the packet. I hate it when sugar does this and I have to dig around to get the required amount. It’s even worse when it goes rock hard, but I didn’t have this problem. Priced at $3. 80 for 1kg, it is well priced and as good as the bigger brands. It would have been handy if it had a seal on the top of the packet, so you could easily reseal it before putting away but that's me being a bit picky. Thank you Bunch for giving me the opportunity to sample this product. If I’m looking to buy brown sugar again in the future, this is the one I’ll be buying.
Just as good as the others. Brown sugar I’m sure is a staple in most households. This is slightly cheaper than the other brands and it is a popular item in our store. Because of the high turnover I have alway found that the sugar is soft in the pack as it is often prone to setting in a solid block. I do not detect much taste difference or colour difference to other brands so it is always my go to. I used some of this pack to make poached caramel pears where the brown sugar is dissolved with water and spices to form the poaching liquid. Because of the colour of this sugar the cooked pears are not only sweeter but they have taken on an appealing golden hue. Thank you Woolworths for this sample. My pantry is never without it.
Definite pantry staple. This is the only light brown sugar that I use as I find it suits all my cooking purposes. It is a lighter shade than the CSR brand but I find that it compares favorably in the kitchen. I have used it when baking biscuits as well as cakes and muffins like the carrot and zucchini muffins I have just made. It makes a great addition the the crumble in a dessert and I also use a couple of spoons in my silverside when I cook it. Great sprinkled on top of porridge. It is a fine texture so makes it easy to sprinkle on top of things without lumping together. It is Australian made and Bonsucro certified which are both very good things to consider. Also it comes in a resealable pack for easier storage if you don't want to transfer it to a container. ... MoreDefinite pantry staple. Great pantry item, essential product for all households! This item was $3. 40 for the kilo. I tend to buy raw, white and brown sugar and use them as needed. With brown sugar I use it for baking/cooking so this was a great sample for me. I liked the Bonsucro certification which means sustainable sugarcane practices and this is what stood out to me straight away. I also like it is an Australian product. The packaging was very plain however I understand that this may help to keep the prices lower as part of the ‘Essential’ range. As I have purchased this before, I already know it is a good product that performs as expected and sweetens my baking products as anticipated. A zip lock bag would be very practical if the packaging was changed.
